I love this album, and these two songs are so good. We know that Soyeon is speaking from her own experience in these, which makes them so much more validating and empowering. Allergy is such a bop, and Queencard so much fun too - I have had them both on repeat since they were released.
I cant even explain how good this comeback is, honestly Queencard is a masterpiece, its so refreshing, catchy af, pure fun. I cant take the melody out of my head 😂 Again (G) I-DLE proved that they can make such a fun music while keeping the positive and important message, Queens. I Hope they become more popular globally 😌👑💜
So a lot of the Queencard song and music video is satire, mainly because it is a fever dream based on what she went through the night before. You'll notice Minnie's lip syncing to one of Soyeon's lines in the club, which shows she really is imagining herself as the girls. Hence, you keep seeing them turn into Soyeon. Now, you see the same thing happening in Allergy, where you keep getting hints that the other members have a similar desire. Yuqi wants to be Shuhua, who wants to be Miyeon, who wants to be Minnie. Minnie doesn't seem to want to be any of them, because she gets Tom.Boy and he's implied to be the Kingcard of sorts. It's also thought that he is who the Ken doll represents in the Tomboy music video, hence his username. I guess now we know why they literally murder him with the poisoned cake that Soyeon makes in the kitchen of that MV. Moreover, a lot of-if not all-of the lines and choreo in Queencard are either digs or mockery. "I'm twerking on the runway." - a clap back to the people who slammed them for their twerking in My Bag. "My boob and booty's hot." - according to Soyeon is based on a film line from a rom-com. "Kim Kardashian" and "Ariana" call-outs aren't random. They were the body types used for a good while by Korean MZs as the 'only acceptable types' a few years ago. There are plenty more, but you get the picture. As far as Allergy goes, that entire song is based on Soyeon's traumatic experiences on Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar at the age of 17. She was repeatedly told online and by opponents that she was ugly. And this doesn't even cover what she went through prior to being recruited by CUBE. She was told by something like 30 management companies that she didn't have the 'visuals' to pursue a career as an idol. Queencard ends with Soyeon saying your style and size are irrelevant, you're a Queencard as long as you are confident in yourself. She wakes up and realises she never needed plastic surgery to conform to the beauty represented by her members. They're all gorgeous in their own way. What I love is that they all dance together during the revelation, settling their own issues that we see in Allergy. It'd take way too long to unpack everything going on in these songs, but I think you can gather the rest on your own.
I love both songs, GIdle really killed it this time. Also, if I remember correctly Soyeon was rejected by multiple companies because she didn't meet the korean beauty standards, so these songs feel like an f you to them in a way XD I also like how they show that anyone can become insecure and how superficial social media can be, it's a great message, especially for youngsters that consume this media constantly. Also, if you've done it already then ignore me, but I really recommend S Class by Stray Kids, the song is an absolute banger and the MV is amazing.
A couple things about both songs: The dance-off in Queencard seems to be inspired by the 2004 film 'White Chicks'. and Much of the Allergy MV draws inspirations by the film, 'Mean Girls'. Im not certain if it's been publicly said by the group themselves or the production crew so anyones free to correct me. Many Neverlands pointed out how there may be inspiration of both songs from Soyeon's experience when she started in the industry. When she appeared on Produce 101 and Unpretty Rapstar (i think the guide you watched briefly covered that), She did received many comments regarding her looks and appearance. It really brought her down at the time but thankfully, she did took them in as motivation to clap back at them in her own way and just prove how great she is no matter what
@@301Serendipity i was just about to say this, the movie is actually fun to watch and has a great message. Both allergy and Queencard really captures the theme.
Queencard grew on me the more I listened/watched them perform it. It eventually became the #1 streamed song on every platform in Korea. I have nothing but respect for GIDLE for being a female self produced group, which is incredibly hard to do. They just release hit after hit while also tackling social issues anybody can relate to.
I really hope you feel better soon. Take your time, there is still no real rush, the material will still be there when you are ready. Take care of yourself first, your health is more important, the channel can wait. :)
Those narrow, rigid "Korean beauty standards" are maddening. Do you know the most popular high school graduation gift there is 'double eyelid surgery'? A few months ago I saw an interview with Suga, and someone asked if his elder brother was good-looking. He wistfully replied, "He's very handsome : he has double eyelids." 😢 Oh no, not our rebel bad boy, too? Even he's internalized that culturally sanctioned self-loathing. Flip those people off, Agust-D.
