Not the clickbait Scoot 🥲. You gotta watch it at least in another video. Maybe making another video watching other epic animatics that you haven't watched yet would be fun!
Here's a fun fact: in the version of Thunder Bringer you watched, the animator confirmed that the scene near the end with Eurylochus reaching out for Odysseus as the lightning hits him is actually him pushing Ody out of the way of the lightning to try and save him.
The reason why Eurylochus opening the bag is a big deal is because that is Odysseus’s Right-Hand Man. His second in command (His brother in law too but that isn’t mentioned in the musical) He was told specifically what was in the bag and to not open it, him opening it is the ultimate betrayal for Odysseus. Considering when Eurylochus opened the bag, they were only like ten away from Ithaca. They were literally RIGHT THERE, which makes the betrayal worse.
@@IshneetGill Here is another crazy detail, they were so close to Ithaca that Odysseus’s mother saw the ship approaching but when the storm took them away she thought Odysseus died in that storm. Completely devastated, she committed suicide by drowning herself. Yeah opening that bag did SO MUCH damage for Odysseus
@@IshneetGill Another fact, in the song “Keep Your Friends” Close you can actually hear Odysseus singing about how close they are to Ithaca before they get blown away. That’s canon according Jorge that Odysseus could see the island EDIT: I believe they were 10 feet away from the shore from what I remember about the Odyssey
Freaky fact that Gigi shared about the baby “siren”- it’s an illusion made by seaweed and bones Now fun facts from Jorge. It is now canon that Odysseus did a little hair tuck behind his ear when saying he’s too shy. Epic’s sirens need time to get inside your head and reach your memories, but when they’re fully inside it’s over. So, with the crew, she only got parts of Odysseus’ memories. That’s why she mixed things up, even down to some background musical instruments getting switched from Penelope’s viola to Polites’ mallet instrument. And if you think that Scylla was scary, just check out the canon design on Jorge’s RU-vid page. Absolutely terrifying.
Odysseus was willing to sacrifice everything and everyone to get home. He knew what he was doing when he told Eurylochus to light six torches, he was making his second in command choose who would die to allow himself to get through unscathed. That is not the type of person that he used to be and the others realised that, following him was no longer a safe idea as they knew he’d readily throw them to the monsters to ensure his own survival. Odysseus was willing to cross every single line to have a chance to get home, even if it meant he would be the only one left.
not only did he delegate the abhorrent task of (unintentionally) choosing who to sacrifice to Eurlyochus, he also likely intended to have Eurlochus be one of the six casualties, as he specifically instructed him to light the torches.
@@Dracon350 not necessarily. eurylochus is his second in command so giving him that task was most likely not meant to be malicious. or it could be given that he was just told by Eury that he opened the wind bag and extended their trip unnecessarily. depends how you think of it
@@kani841 i definitely feel that there was malicious intent in choosing Eurylochus. it's a task he could've told ANYBODY, but he specifically told Eurylochus with the knowledge that those who held the torches would be the sacrifices. he was putting Eurylochus into harm's way just by telling him to light the torches, even if he didn't mean for Eurylochus to hold one. it's definitely an interpretation thing, but it's hard not to link the events together when right before this. Eurylochus reveals that he's essentially the reason that 558 men are dead, among other things.
@@Dracon350 Definitely could be. But even with such recent betrayal i don’t think the Odysseus portrayed in this saga would’ve been able to sacrifice Eury so readily. Like yes he was ready to sacrifice 6 members of his crew but I personally don’t think he wanted Eury to die. Even when he sacrificed the rest of his crew it was only because he was literally given no other choice by the God of Gods and his decision WAS right after the whole crew betrayed him (again). It really is just a perspective thing
@@kani841 i think, with enough time to process, Ody would do as you said, but i think, going into Scylla already prepared to lose 6 men, and with the recent information of Eurylochus' betrayal that lead them there in the first place, he wanted to punish his friend somehow, and in the moment chose to make him a sacrifice. i'm sure Ody would've felt completely awful if Eurylochus had died, but in the moment, i feel as if the anger he'd have felt would've outweighed his logic, especially since he'd just became the monster.
Not oddy screaming kill them all in the faces of hesitant crew members and taking their weapons and doing it himself before casually flingin siren torsos off the ship! Wow! Love that animatic
I’m glad you noticed the Scylla 6 torches thing! Part of why Eury was so mad was that Ody had Eury pick 5 friends to die, and Eury himself as the 6th, with none of them knowing so Odysseus would be guaranteed to survive. And for the Circe’s island thing, Eurylochus was trying to save the lives they had left after Poseidon, and he was technically right bc if Hermes didn’t pop out of nowhere afterwards Ody would have died
I mean, Eruy just admitted to not just the deepest of betrayals but also treason against his king right before that. He realistically should have expected a death sentence. Just sayin.
THIS! No shade to any of the other artists, but Duvet's gave exactly the right energy I wanted the entire time. Also, the siren trying to pull a hail Mary with Penelope's face one more time is too good!
@@ChelTheNerdyPrude LITERALLY YES AND I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY FOR XIMENA ANIAMTICS TOO LIKE GIGI'S ARE GOOD BUT THE WHOLE FANDOM IF YOU ASK ME IS BIASED WHEN IT COMES TO ANIMATICS BECAUSE MOST OF THEM REQUESTS HER AND IT THROWS A SHADOW OVER ALL THE OTHER GOOD ARTISTS
@@ChelTheNerdyPrude I was hoping he'd use my playlist of anomatic I made because not only did I put multiple of the same songs but I put a lot of underrated ones and not just Gigi's I really wanted him to explore the anomatic from other people
@@ChelTheNerdyPrude and hopefully Tomorrow he watches Duvetbox animatic four legendary since that's the first one really out there since the saga released
I'm actually so upset at the clickbait with neal illustrators thunder bringer and then NOT reacting to it 😭it's my fav animatic throughout the whole musical ㅠㅠ
@@Rowan-g5n I love Neal's interpretation of Zeus enough to make up for the flaw in the location, but for first-time watching and understanding continuity it's good that he went with a different animatic.
9:00 Scoot, nonchalant: I mean... so? He knew somebeody did. Nah, they were so *effing close* to Ithaca and opening the bag blew them far back to the opposite direction. Not to mention thatbone of his best friends, second in command, disobeyed this ONE rule out of all the people in the boat. They would've gotten home a long time ago. They wouldn't have dealt with Circe, had their boats head towards where Poseidon would get them, go to the Underworld, and Anticlea wouldn't have to off herself when she saw what happens in Ruthlessness and believed Odysseus died along with the drowned troops.
Honestly, I think I was good that Eurylochous opened the bag. Had he not, Poseidon would have flooded Ithaca the moment they landed. It's not out his character.
You really should watch Neal Animation’s Thunder Bringer. While there is a mess up in location, tbh it shows more of how much Zeus is messing with them especially as Penelope singing “I’ll take the suffering from you” is implied even in the official version as an illusion from Zeus which isn’t really shown well here
@@Shaabun True true! I just want that to be a second choice, cause I really LOVE the canon design from the livestream! (And this guy keeps that) But Gigi is MY LOVE! I would die for her! Her animatics anyway 😂😅 The eal design is sick!
Something I like to point out to reactors is that, Lyrically, you'll notice in "Different Beast" that the men are happily saying "WE are a different beast" as they enjoy their cleverness, until Odysseus gives them all orders to mutilate and leave the Sirens to die painful and slow, then they sing "HE is a different beast" like they're distancing themselves from his change Odysseus also comes in repeating his order "Kill them all" over and over again like he has to push them to do it
With Scylla, he had to choose between sacrificing 6 men for sure, or Scylla just wrecking their ship and probably killing most if not all of them. Before, he might've tried to find a different path but now he's hardened and desperate, a stone cold pragmatic, so he made the "obvious" choice of 6 men rather than all of them. It makes sense why the crew was upset, though it's so ironic that once shit got hot under Eurylochus' command, they immediately went back to Odysseus and made him once again shoulder the blame. 💀
My favorite part of the THunder bringer animatic you watches is Eurylochus pushing Odysseus out of the way, honestly my favorite part. Theres also one where he protects him from the rest of the crew.
Also something that the animator of the Thunder Bringer animatic confirmed; Eurylochus(Ody’s right hand man) may have ran in to attack Ody at the end, but when Zeus struck them with the lightning he pushed Odysseus out of the way in time so he wouldn’t get hit. Thats why his hand is stretched out and not his sword at the end. It’s little details like that that makes me really feel for Eurylochus
Mutiny by Riley G is possibly my favorite EPIC animatic ever, so glad you reacted to it (great playlist overall). Also, one of my favorite things is how even after their fight, Eury and Ody clearly care about each other and Eury calls him “friend”/“Ody,” he seemed so out of it in that cow scene, like he didn’t even have the energy to be mad. He lost all hope of getting home and just didnt wanna starve to death
Which makes sense in context of the original story because they were stranded on the sun god's island (Thrinacia) for a month in the original story by a storm, slowly starving to death, and the crew eventually decided being smitten by a god would be a better fate than to slowly starve to death.
If the livestream is still up, be sure to watch the livestream for The Wisdom Saga. It makes what is happening very clear, and also just has pretty incredible art in general.
Always appreciate the videos, Scoot! Now that you've listened to this saga, if you relisten to No Longer You (the second song in the Underworld saga) there's a portion of the song that actually prophesises the next saga. It's the background chorus vocals nearer to the end of the song. They go, "Siren song! Scylla throat! Mutiny! Lightning bolt!" Just a lil' hidden gem for you there.
A random note on siren songs: The live action remake of The Little Mermaid touched on that subject. The reason for Ursula taking her voice was because one song could make a man fall in love forever. Prince Eric fell the moment he heard the girl on the beach sing, so she might have been onto something it was only fair to give up her voice so no cheating. And how Eric fell in love with Ursula was the same spell, the same song using the same voice. Never underestimate a mermaid or siren song.
scylla is an entirely separate monster from the sirens to answer your question. She's not even really an aquatic monster in the original, she just lives in the cliff side by the sea. But ofc in epic it's kind of scarier and creepier if she came out of the water. Also yes eurylochus was the one who said in the circe saga to leave the men who turned into pigs initially. But throughout the musical he also changed. Putting simply, Odysseus' speech of not leaving anyone behind bc the guilt is immense and he cares for them changed eurylochus' general logical opinion of sacrifice for survival. He's feeling betrayed in Mutiny bc odysseus essentially broke that promise. It was basically "You were supposed to be the compassionate one, what happened?" Eurylochus also knows that in the past even tho Odysseus has screwed up in some decisions, a lot of those decisions were made in good faith. So to him, Odysseus essentially giving up on trying to find other ways and jumping straight to the sacrifice solution was very fucked up, bc he believes odysseus' thinking prowess would've come up with something else
With Eurylochus leaving men behind, it is different in my opinion. He didn't know what, or who Circe was, and didn't know if there was any way to save those men. With Scylla, Odysseus willingly went in, knowing 6 men would have to die. Eurylochus fled from fear, Odysseus sacrificed. I love Eurylochus, but I also know he's a moron 💀
Since wisdom saga is out we have 2 more saga’s before it’s officially done. (Also since you’re watching the wisdom saga now I suggest going to his livestream so you can actually get information and not the mistake of not knowing what new characters are speaking and why they’re doing so
Medusa is in fact apart of this mythology and her story is one of the saddest. She was a maiden priestess of Athena who was the most beautiful woman on earth, every man wanted her, including the Gods. Poseidon came to her and courted her, he didn’t take no for an answer and SA’d her in Athena’s temple. Athena then cursed her though we are unsure if it was a curse or a gift to prevent man from ever disgracing her again. Perseus a son of Zeus would later come and take her head after she spent the last half of her life in solitude constantly hunted. He took her head to be a wedding gift and then gave it back to Athena by placing it in her temple.
I love how you were like "so? We know somebody did it" when Eurylochus admitted to opening the windbag. I think it shows that you believe what's past is past and I think that's sweet :"))
I will forever stand on the fact that they deserved it, he told them not to kill the cows and they did it anyways and then what expected him to take the blame? 😂 Not to mention that by stabbing him they had already committed treason so imo either way they wasn’t about to survive that 😢 they just know Ody was to soft to do anything about it until they went a little too far then expected him to take the blame for a decision that wasn’t his 🤷🏾♀️ what did Eurytocus (??) say “If you want all the power you must carry all the blame” Stand on that 😂
Aaaaahhhhh!! It's finally time for this! I love these songs 🥺 Man everyone is suffering in this saga and it hurts my heart 😭 I think 'Different Beast' and 'Mutiny' are my favorites. Ody changes so much, he gets so savage also, 'Scylla' was haunting
2:06 Posideon is afraid of Scylla because he doesnt want to be eaten again. His father Kronos was told that one of his male heirs would kill him, so he swallowed all of his kids when they were born.
A very common theme in greek tragedy is that prophecy is never clear but always true and many heroes misinterpret prophecy then cause it to come true by trying to avoid what they THOUGHT it meant.
14:58 I have heard this song so many times, and I have always passed over this comment, that when they found this island and saw the statue, they did not recognize the God whose statue it is, they only know that it is some God associated with the Sun. These are the cows of Helios therefore this is his statue, as the first Sun God but in Greek Mythology, and Apollo appeared later as the new God of the Sun, and this happened in Greek Mythology because people forget about the god if no one prays to them anymore, or don't bring gifts to their temples, and here only Odysseus knows about Helios because maybe Athena told him about the gods, or Odysseus is the most educated here, and he knows ancient history better than others. Maybe i'm wrong, but since we see Apollo in the God Games song, and since Apollo is one of the gods to whom Troy prayed too, Helios is probably one of the almost forgotten gods, that got Odysseus and his crew into trouble here.
I'm just gonna say it Oddy made like one mistake with the cyclops, and the rest was his crew screwing everyone over. From opening the wind bag, to getting turned into pigs, to mutinying and literally stabbing him in the back during a duel because he had the audacity to make a choice that would result in the least deaths, and then to top it all off they tried to kill that sacred cow despite his warnings, despite everything they went through because of the sheep.. Yeah, they deserved to get Zeused when all they had to do to get home at this point was to not do anything stupid for like a week, but instead they knowingly messed with a gods stuff.
Nah, I disagree. Odysseus made a mistake that was both easily avoidable and got 550 men killed. His crew fell into traps laid by gods. In my opinion, he got his crew into this mess, then made them pay for his mistakes.
It's hilarious to me that they were so surprised when Odysseus said from the very first song that there wasn't anything that he wouldn't do to see his son and wife. Like, I know it seems shocking on their end, but he's literally been saying it from the beginning
The wind bag thing hurts Odysseus so much because someone opened the wind bag when they were close enough to Ithaca that they could see the people on the docks and then the bag got opened and shot them.far away from ithaca
In ancient myth there are only two types of prophecies, the self fulfilling ones, and the ones that you don't understand until it's too late, this is definitely the former type
You used a different Thunderbringer animatic as your thumbnail then did a different one??? Why not use the one you were gonna watch. I got excited for the last one because I know that animation is very interesting to me (all the animation made for it are unique to each artist, but I felt the buff Zeus one portrayed his personality best overall. Still fun to see you almost caught up.
React to the live stream for cannon animatics skip to [1:32.07] for the wisdom saga the live got taken down at the end so switch to the 11 minute stream when the first one is done
When you going to react the wisdom saga i hope you will look at the original stream/video with the animations because a lot of people didn't get whats happening in the songs without animations. (Im not going to say any spoiler just saying its better to understand 😅) love your reactions
please react wisdom saga from the jorge's livestream version if you didnt react yet!! its with the animation he himself commissioned and they are (imo) better than other versions!!
Tbh I think it's kinda valid he would vote off the other 25 remaining crewmates. Like he had to save them from cercie, they opened the windbag behind his back, he saved them multiple times in general with his smarts (everyone on his side survived the war because of him), and then they kill a gods cow when he begged them not too and warned them they will die from it
The only reason they were in these positions was because Ody stupidly doxxed himself while they were already leaving. To make matters worse, it was against a direct command from the Goddess of Wisdom lol. Almost everyone’s partially at fault
I always felt like Eurylocuhus was such a hypocrite in Mutiny. Like are you not the same guy who opened the wind bag and killed 558 men???🤨🤨 and now your mad he sacrificed 6 guys to get the rest of y'all home. Dude all 600 of y'all would've been home rn if you js had listened😭😭😭 Edit: And on top of that in thunder bringer weren't you the reason why Zeus came in the first place?? Like bro your actually stupid got everyone killed🤦♀️🤦♀️
All 600 of them would be home of a certain some didn’t dox himself. If Eury hadn’t opened the bag, Poseidon would have destroyed all of Ithaca, he saved more lives than he ended up
