I read 64 fantasy books this year and these 10 are the best so far! My favorite fantasy books of 2023!
I am an avid fantasy reader and this year has been filled with 5-star reads. I still have 36 books to read, and although things can and WILL change… I didn’t want to wait until the end of the year to share these AMAZING READS.

Concerning the Vampire of the Empire, I was honestly hooked after a couple chapters. I totally understand that everyone has a different opinion, though. Just wanted to add my 2 cents in case anyone was wondering ❤

Empire of the vampire is one of my favorite books as well, I'm so excited for the next books. I really like the fact that it's being told and also that it kind of jumps between timelines.

I think I will bump Malice up my TBR. I also was not in love with Shadow of the Gods like you, but I liked Gwynne's worldbuilding and it sounds like this one might be more up my alley!

I just stumbled across your channel (first video), but you have such good taste! I couldn’t help but notice you had a Spanish copy of some books- it’s my second language & I’ve been recently interested in delving into more books in Spanish to develop my vocab- Its obvious you’re at a much higher reading level than I am considering even the English version of the Priory of the Orange tree is dense enough for me, but I would totally love to see a video of your fav books in Spanish too if you’ve never done one/if that’s something you’re interested in doing!!

I bought a copy of A River Enchanted after finding out the author is local to me! I got a signed hardback edition from an indie bookstore in my town, but the cover of your paperback is so much prettier! Maybe I’ll save that book for a rainy day. 😊

I agree about Malice >>> The Shadow of the Gods. Just wait for the rest of the books, in only gets better and better!! I had the opposite experience because I read first The Faithful anf the Fallen and Of Blood and Bone, and everyone seemed to love The Shadow of the Gods the most so I was disappointed when I realized it was not really my cup of tea. I'd rather have the characters we have in malice than a more action-packed book like Shadow of the Gods. Excellent video, Isa! I adore your editing, it must take you so long but it's so beautiful to see 😍

Glad you enjoyed Eye of the World! I wasn't sold on Faithful and the Fallen immediately, but it definitely became a favorite. I really wish Dandelion Dynasty worked better for me, beautiful books, just didn't work with my taste well. I was also blown away by The Will of the Many! I really enjoyed Licanius, but Islington really grew a ton between the two series.

Your video makes me want to read everything you listed. Even the ones I already read 😂. I own the Will of the Many but haven’t picked it up because I heard there was a cliffhanger. But it’s coming to the point I’m getting FOMO and want to read it asap.

Empire of the Vampire will probably my favorite book of the year. I finished a few days ago and I am still missing it. Sorry it took you til half the book to get into it. I was hooked by the first page.

6.5hrs of editing and we get a masterpiece. 17:01. The Lil One wants to go! The Grace of Kings: Definitely will make an effort to read that and I love those covers. The Trials of Empire Feb 6th!!!! Yumi and the Painter sounds wild . Great content.

I'm going to have to give Malice and Grace of Kings another chance. Neither of them gripped me immediately, and then I got really into Robin Hobb, so I put them aside. I was interested in Empire of the Vampire already, but having your thoughts, I now really want to read it!

Yay!! I hope you enjoy Empire of the Vampire! It is such a great book, once that you settle into the world and characters! As for Grace of Kings, I can only recommend to read it while on holidays haha it is not the type of book you casually read a bit before going to bed!

I also have “Blood Over Bright Haven” and “The Will Of the Many” in my top 2!!! (So I’m one of the 1k and 5k people respectively who voted highly for them). It makes me think I should pick up Yumi and the Nightmare Painter next and in case that’s a success just go through your list backwards.😂

Faithful and the Fallen is my 3rd favorite fantasy series, I love it a lot. I thought Malice was good, but Valor blew me away. In my opinion each book gets better and better. Wrath was my favorite in the series.

First of all, your puppy is trying to escape lol and second of all to say that something is like red rising, but better… That’s some challenge! To me, nothing compares to the red rising series, NOTHING, but even if it comes close, I’m willing to give it a shot 😊

Where did you guys got that version of Dandelion Dynasty soft cover books? Is so pretty and I haven't seen them anywhere ;;; anyways, great video, there were some books that I was having my eyes on to read but now I'm more convinced. ALSO, thanks to your encouragement a few months ago I finally bought my first Brandon Sanderson book (Mistborn book 1) and ngl, I've been stalling to read and instead been reading some other books in my tbr because the hype intimidates me so much to know that once I dive into the Cosmere, I will not come out of it. Having a heavy feeling that 2024 will be my Sanderson era x) NGL I AM SO INTRIGUED WITH YUMI AND THE NIGHTMARE PAINTER, I saw the other cover different from the one you have and i loved it so much I'm seriously (and very irresponsibly) thinking in buying it right now... Right now I'm reading The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez and I'm loving it so far, it might become my favorite book of the year considering I've only read 22 so far and most of them have been popular YA or comfort re-reads.

*hides in shame of how many of these I have not read* But! Almost all are on my list (except EoV because Nevernight was enough for me) and I'll definitely get to the Elements of Cadence by the end of the year! I added it to the priority list when you were gushing about it earlier this year and I was waiting to finish some series before starting anything new. I'm close now 👀 I'm curious to see if anything else you read between now and December will end up in your top ten! What do you think? Any promising book on your list?

Great list! I have a question though, I've never read anything by Brandon and I was thinking about buying tress of the emerald sea, is it possible to read it as the first introduction to the cosmere ?

Yes. It's one of four books he calls the Secret Project Series. Three of the four have no connection to the Cosmerere. Of these, I would highly recommend Tress and Yumi and the Painter..

Me haces verte con el notion abierto creandome TBR's porque la mayoría de los libros que has sacado (como siempre) los tengo por aquí, pero sin abrir, asi que me creo la lista con los cuadritos para ir tachando.... que digo yo, si nos haces una lista colaborativa que se vaya actualizando... es de tener mucho morro por nuestra parte? Estoy vaguísima jaja. Por cierto, al final me pillé Belladonna en inglés y mi copia se la voy a regalar a una amiga por su cumple (junto con doscientos libros más, no es tacañería eh). Es que apenas había llegado al cap 5 cuando lo retomé en inglés (y si, las vibes están más fuertecitas en inglés, lesson learnt). Llevo detrás de "Will of the Many" mucho tiempo, pero es que también me gusta tener riñones XDDD Para mi lo mejor del año ha sido Shauna Lawless, con solo dos libros ya es compra instantánea para mi (es más estuve dando el coñazo con ella y puede o puede que no, le pidiera opinion a Joe Abercrombie que andaba por ahi, que vergüenza). Claro que tampoco he leído mucha fantasía y menos "nueva" este año, estamos trabajando en ello.

Si sorry it took me so long! I do have some videos going a bit more in detail about fantasy for beginners but for me, either Warbreaker or Mistborn from Sanderson are great starting points!

Unpopular opinion: Malice is great. Yet, the Faithful and the Fallen as such is a terrible series and waaay overhyped.

@@FunFantasyBooks I do hope you will like the rest. For me the first 1.5 books were great, the next 1.5 were 'not good enough to enjoy, but not bad enough to stop reading'. Book 4 managed to get my hopes up, my faith returned... and then there were 20-30 pages at the end that ruined the whole series for me.
