Thank you for your recommendations. I don’t usually read fantasy but two of my favorite books this year were A River Enchanted and The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. I can’t wait to read more from both Rebecca Ross and VE Schwab. Adding some of these to my TBR!
I just started reading The Wheel of Time. I am so excited to be part of your Patreon community. 🎉 I adore your community engagement and am excited to be discussing these books with fantasy lovers around the globe. Thank you for everything you do, Isa.
One of the best things about "The Eye of the World" is that things start happening in the first few pages. Many authors seem to want to bore you for 100 pages or so, before anything happens. I think the theme of "The Will of the Many" is that if you cede your will, your power, to those above you, you are responsible for what they do with that power.
Definitely! The prologue and first chapter of eye of the world were incredibly strong! I can’t wait to keep reading! 💯 agree with the theme of The Will of the Many! Have you read it? And if so, enjoyed it?
@@FunFantasyBooks I think you will really have fun reviewing the Wheel of Time books. I read "The Will of the Many" as soon as it came out, and it's one of the best fantasy books I've read. I think the maze is a way to another source of power separate from the will.
So many of these are on my 2024 to-read list 🌟 My favorites this year were all fantasy with heavy historical inspiration! The Troy Trilogy by David Gemmell, the Boudica series by Manda Scott, and then Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold and Words of Kings and Prophet by Shauna Lawless. Though Piranesi came really close, so thank you for recommending it, I would've probably kept it at the bottom of the TBR if not for your endorsement ❣ Hopefully next year will be even better for both of us 🥂
Yayyy for Piranesi!!! I am so happy about it!! I might need to give the Boudica series a try after your experience! Although I am not sure if I am ready for it haha 🥲! Here is for an incredible 2024 🥂
So many are in my list for this year. I have to put red rising series on my best reads for 2023. Just finished catching up in the series this week and lightbringer was amazing
Ohhhh!! That’s great to hear!!! I’ve only read the first 3 books of the Red Rising series! I am scared haha I don’t want my dear characters to suffer anymore 🥲. Happy to read that you loved it!
Just finished will of the many! Loved it! You should make a full spoiler recap video for it because there’s no way I’m going to remember all of that by the time the next book come out! 😂
Hahhha that’s a great idea!!! I will probably need to re-read again because so much stuff happens!! So might as well do a recap! Thank you!! 🥹 so happy you loved it!
Glad to see the love for "Blood Over Bright Haven. I will read everything fom M. L. Wang. My number 1 reading experience for 2023 was "The Dandelion Dynasty". Ken Liu transported me to the world of Dara and I never wanted to leave. Regarding "The Will of the Many" I wonder if I read the same book like everyone or if I was the only person that noticed some problems. 😅 Well ,that is the fun of having diffrent tastes and oppinions.
I am so happy you enjoyed the Dandelion Dynasty!! It is definitely incredible. What a brain Ken Liu has! 🤯! Mandatory yay for Blood Over Bright Haven!!! As for the Will of the Many, as you said! The great thing is that reading is subjective!
Every single one of them is on my 2024 tbr (except those I've already read) and ooomg, you made me even more excited for the next year. Finished Blood over bright haven just few days back and it certainly is in my top 10, maybe even top 3. I am still in the process of figuring out my top 10 books :D
Oh yay!! I read it and also loved it!!! Moscap is such a phenomenal character 🥹. For me book 1 was slightly better! It found me in the perfect moment where I definitely needed a break. It was great!
Just finished The Will of the Many a few days ago and it blew me away! I put it in my (not ranked, I don't want to choose!) Top 5 of the year. The other books in there are Words of Radiance, Tress of the Emerald Sea (Yumi is high up, too), Untethered Skies and Sons of Darkness
Amazing reads!!! Oh I am so happy that you enjoyed The Will of the Many! It is such an incredible book! So happy to also see multiple Sanderson books in your list!!
Great selection!!! definitely subscribing. I look forward to your 2024 TBR (also glad to see another Spanish speaking booktuber :-) . I haven't read Justice of Kings yet but I've heard nothing but good things. Same for the Grace of Kings!! I also absolutely loved The Will of the Many.
@@FunFantasyBooks I really liked it and always kept reading it when possible. It was really good. I'm a huge fan of Sanderson as well. I really like your channel because all your recommendations fit my taste.
You have an excellent top ten. I will be adding V E Schwab and M L Wang to my wish list for some time in the future. I already have Ken Liu on it. I have Empire of the Vampire and The Justice of Kings on my TBR for this year. My Top Ten books for 2023 are: 1. The Broken Sword - Poul Anderson 2. Nettle And Bone - T. Kingfisher 3. Touching The Void - Joe Simpson 4. The Martian - Andy Weir 5. Children Of Time - Adrian Tchaikovsky 6. If I Die In A Combat Zone - Tim O'Brien 7. The Greatest Beer Run Ever - John Chickie Donohue 8. Dogs Of War - Adrian Tchaikovsky 9. Red Rising - Pierce Brown 10. The Very Best Of Charles De Lint - Charles De Lint
I’m so happy you enjoyed Malice! I need to read The River Enchanted 😅 I’m so happy you liked Grace of kings!!!!! We should buddy read book 3 i need to read it
90% of the books on your list, I ave also put in my top. EXCEPT Empire of the vampire. Did not think I would like it and now I’m going to read it. Thanks
Hi there. Thanks for this great video. The only books that you have mentioned that I have read and listened to is the Eye of the World and A Darker Shade of Magic and unfortunately, I had to DNF a Darker Shade of Magic because the audiobook made me fall asleep and once I put that book down, I forgot everything about the characters and story almost immediately. However, I love the Wheel of Time series so much. All of your top 10 books are on my tbr pile. Also, I did want to let you know, that I am now 25% into reading while listening to the Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson. It is getting really good now. I had meant to start listening to that a lot earlier this month, but I wound up getting hopelessly addicted to reading well listening to the light novel Spice and Wolf. J Michael Tatum and brina Palencia, who are the main voice actors who play the roles of Lawrence and Holo in the anime, are the narrators of the audiobook versions of the light novels and believe me they are really good. I wound up reading and listening to about four volumes in this 24 volume light novel series in about 4 weeks. If you want to read about a literal wolf goddess who travels with a human traveling merchant and it just basically tells the story about their adventures then you will really like the series. I am really hoping to finish the last two books and the Mistborn era 2 series after the beginning of next year and then if I don't start listening to the secret projects I am definitely planning on starting to listen to the Stormlight Archive books. Unless something else ends up distracting me, which is really likely.
Hahaha being a mood reader and allowing you to fall in love with new books is fantastic!! I am so happy you loved Wheel of Time and are giving Mistborn a try now!!! The narrators are great!
I love Malice! I binged all 9 of John Gwynne's books last year. I like to pretend the song "I am the Storm" by ad infinitum is about Storm in the books lol. If you liked Blood Over Bright Haven check out Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao, it's BOBH if Carra was the mc and she had a giant magical robot instead of a typewriter. My fav was A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon. Something I loved but wont be for everyone was Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan
Ahhh thank you for recommending Iron Widow! I have been on the fence with it for some time now! But happy to know that it’s similar to BOBH!! I can’t wait to keep reading Malice! I’ve heard that it gets better and better! A day of fallen night is on my TBR! I hope to read it soon!!
Ah, the Starless Sea! Never have I debated DNFing a book so much before. The half I read I kind of enjoyed, but I was SO bored. I don't like not finishing a book, but I have so many other books I want to get to. Hearing you liked The Night Circus, I'll definitely give that one a chance
Please give it a try!! It feels soo different from Starless Sea! However! I do feel like you need to be in a certain mindset to enjoy The Night Circus! If you read the first chapters and don’t find yourself in the mood… postpone it!!
Ahhh I love all 3! So I guess it depends of what you are seeking! Shadow of the Fox is certainly YA and the lighter of the 3, reads like a videogame and it is surprisingly emotional! Yumi is a standalone and is very cute, while keeping some incredible scenes!! A river enchanted is a duology with adult characters and a slower pacing, but beautiful writing 🥹
Ahhh I love that!! It depends of your tastes, but I’d say that searching for a standalone to begin with is a good idea! I’ll give it a try to Sword of Kaigen, Tress of the Emerald Sea, Warbreaker or Piranesi! (Very different each of these books! Hopefully you find something you like here!)
100% can understand that!! The starless sea wasn’t for me at all! So I can see how Night Circus not being for you either! Glad that you enjoyed Empire of the Wolf!!
Jefaaaaa ponte buena prontisimooooo.
