Fun fact: your War and Peace video is the first video of yours that I watched, Bella. You’ve inspired and pushed me to read classics. I’ve read 3 classics this year and that’s still unbelievable to me. ❤ Thank you so much 😊
My two cents: 1. Anna's focus on Vronsky I don't think it was all about Vronsky as a person but more her realization that she genuinely lacked a happy relationship and that she basically built her whole happiness around her son. But the love you receive from and have for your kid can't replace romantic love. Anna realized she lacked but wanted love for her life when she first experienced it. That, I think, was her ultimate goal and Vronsky was not only part of that future but in the society back then the key to it. If he'd left her, she would've lost not only her love, but her chance to a better future and the little bit of reputation she could've restored with marrying him. And after all, in this situation, Vronsky (unwillingly) was basically the only person who was there for her since she kinda lost all her friends, which makes her even more dependent on him. 2. I think it's no ones fault but society's. Like with Dolly and Stiva Tolstoy (imo) shows that just staying in your horrible marriage isn't a much better option either. Only Kitty and Levin find happiness and that's also because they can flee that harmful society to a life in the countryside, which Tolstoy idolizes. 3. The last part I think it was intentional. It made me mad, too, tbh. But if you think about it it's just shattering how that death of a person who suffered through that entire book, DOESN'T have that big impact. Everything just moves on. Society doesn't care about her. As it didn't care when that poor man in the beginning was killed by the train. And the ones who care may find it hard to even express that in a society that abandoned Anna for her behavior. I would assume that her suicide was somewhat a taboo to talk about. The only one who did suffer (even way more than her own brother) was Vronsky who's life was absolutely shattered with Anna's death, which probably is why I like him as a character after all. I think that absolutely devastating infuriating ending for Anna, contrasted with the more positive ending for Levin is what rounds up the entire message 🤔
It is definitely intentional that Vronsky and Anna are the only two who helped the family of that man who got crushed at the beginning, and they both meet their end with trains involved. Anna jumping in front of it, and Vronsky getting on a train with volunteers that are gonna be used for frontlines in a war. I genuinely don't get why people dislike Vronsky and how they can possibly like Levin, considering how selfish and horrible he is to everyone who isn't a tool for his own life ands happiness(and even then, he still acted horrible towards the sweet Kitty who was nothing but loyal to him, AND was 15 years younger)
@@LisaFevral Right? Finally someone's saying it. I honestly never understood all the Vronsky hate and the Levin love. People make Levin look like a saint and perfect man and Vronsky like a horrible guy (when he's not simply overlooked in reviews), and I just wonder if we've all read the same book? What are y'all talking about? It's so frustrating to me. I just saw your other comment that you want to make a video about AK. Please do! It definitely needs other perspectives out there
this is literally so perfect, i finished anna karenina a week ago and i have been DYING to hear about someone else's experience with this book omg im so glad
ok i need to read anna karenina after watching this. i need to finish war and peace first, but i think anna karenina might be my next big classic that i read. literally every time i pick up war and peace i can't help but think that tolstoy was just writing his napoleon and empereror alexander fanfic and society just accepted it as a literary masterpiece lol ☕
Loved hearing your thoughts on AK! Spoilers ahead: I think that the main difference between vronsky/anna and levin/kitty isn't the communication but the generousity. Anna is self-centered while Levin and Kitty are generous and empathetic. So when vronsky ends up doing charitable things, anna is jealous bc his world doesn't revolve around her. That's when you realize that Karenin wasn't the bad man she pictured, he was rejected by her and always opened to forgive her but she never wants to come back. Karenin will do the right thing even if it's hard and makes him look like the bad guy, while anna will do whatever she feels like doing, picturing herself as the good one who follows her heart when she's just being egocentric and nothing is ever her fault. V does to her more or less what she did to K. But she is the one who ultimately leaves K, V and her children when nobody wanted to abandon her. She even visits her son who was told she was dead to not know she abandonned him and then leaves again. I see it as the typical case of victim who ends up being the persecutor (without realizing it) and ends up so lost and angry and alone that she does what she does. Bc she never thinks of anybody else and never puts anybody before her, selflessly, in the end she makes everybody suffer and looses herself. To me part 8 is just to show that really the world didn't revolve around her and she sadly left nothing bc she didn't do anything (even if you can feel bad for her, the thing is she never did anything good). Sorry for the longest comment, I needed to let that out, I don't know anybody as passionate as you and me about this book :D
I love whenever we get unfiltered emotional Bella, she's so engaging to listen to This was such a fun vlog! On the topic of Anna making Vronsky her entire personality, thing is that at the time, it was nigh impossible for women to exist outside of their relation to a man. Their primary concern was to find one to take care of them because they were basically not allowed to take care of themselves, so choosing who that man was going to be for you was essentially the most freedom a woman was going to get, therefore Anna projecting all her hopes and dreams onto someone she thought would be able to get her out of her previously unhappy existence is not that strange. Like it is not just about him, he's a symbol and a getaway and a hope for a better life too because she doesn't really have an alternate way out. For women, any semblance or illusion of choice could have been enough to make them do desperate things sometimes. One last thing, I think if you enjoyed Anna you might also like Madame Bovary. It deals with many of the same topics but is shorter and much more focused on the titular character. Fair warning though, she is also tragic and occasionally pretty infuriating.
I'm currently reading a 900 pages book and i honestly struggling a lot with finishing it or get through the half of it, seeing u finish huge is inspiring. The best part of finishing books amd especially huge books is looking through the tabs, ahhh it feels sooo goood
i've never read this specific book but this video is gonna motivate me to read the count of monte cristo which has been collecting dust on my bookshelf out of sheer intimidation
@@phulkumaridhakal858Bro, I'm attempting to. So far, I've only read from online sources, and know the Ramayana by heart. But I want a book, a physical one. Which one to get?
It took me 10 months to complete Anna karenina, it was my first giant classic and I absolutely love seeing you conquering reading this book. P.s. I can't wait for your thoughts on the kite runner, I saw your stories and OMG
i LOVE your addiction to reading the classics omg, these videos are so fun!! this is one of my favs! long winded and chonky but a good payoff and you can mark it off your bucket list once you're done, lol. also this edition is so pretty!!
WHEN YOU STARTED CLEANING THE TABLE PLSSSS 😂 also vronsky being tiktok f*ck boy, it totally checks out lmao i am so glad you loved it !! i wanna reread now since i read it when i was only 16 and i want to see what i think of it as an adult now. thank you for this amazing vlog 💌☕
I'm absolutely amazed by the kind of books you read. War and peace last year, the count of monte Cristo and Anna Karenina this year!! I'm trying to overcome my fear of big books, so I picked up the tale of the Heike, a Japanese classic! Also the fully tabbed book looks exquisite 😍😍
Love this, it's like actually getting to talk with someone about this book. Please keep reading classics! I will watch all of those videos! I also love Levin and Kitty!

Your reaction to the Kite Runner was so relateable,, I remember reading this book when I was still in school and deep into my historical fiction phase. It was one of the first novels that made me feel a true visceral reaction while reading and I was shook.😶It was quite the emotional ride. Also, love the SVSS mention; that was the novel that got me super obsessed with webnovels in general especially those with 'systems' involved! You're making me want to add more classics into my tbr list!
Part of me feels that the reason for having part 8 was to illustrate that life moves on despite the dramatic buildup and shock but life always moves on. Alas, great review! I enjoyed seeing all your emotions as I sipped my tea.
Im finally watching this but since ik ur a K-pop Stan I wanna tell someone about this bc I’m in shambles, Hyunjin (from stray kids incase u don’t know) was just announced as the global ambassador for Versace and is the first Korean act to do so and I’m literally crying this is amazing 😭also props to u for reading that book bc I would be so terrified💀
Gurlllll FINALLLYYY QUEEN 😩😩🫶🫶🙇♀️🙇♀️ , I WAS WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR THE LONGEST TIME , I can finally finally read Anna karenina along with this vlog playing over and over 🩷🩷
lol watching you lose your mind over anna karenina made me relive what i felt during reading it bc boy was it an experience. btw you should also watch an adaptation from 2012!!
Can I just say that I was twelve years old when I first read war and peace ☮️ I got it when I was in hospital in and out over three months for asthma and it helped me passed the time away really excited about watching this video as I love your amazing and wonderful channel love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
Thankyou Bella for getting me out of my reading slump.. the whole June month i couldn't pickup a single book, but watching your video ignite me to pickup The kite runner🤗 and also continue reading Anna Karenina which i left in the middle. Thnakyou Bella ❤
I know this is a biy late and a bit off topic but I'm so glad you liked the kite runner! I don't even have that copy of the book but I knew exactly which parts you were referring to, amd it shook me when I first read it. Secondly, congrats on finishing Anna Karenina!!! The Vintage classics editions of books are truly stunning and I want to own them. The crime and punishment version also looks gorgeous!!
Congrats on finishing anna karenina🎉 anyways, I haven't even started the kite runner as I need to finish some of my currently readings, and you're already half way though reading it😭 can't wait to see another vlogs❤☕️
Thank you so much for this video! It was so fascinating to hear someone else talk about Anna Karenina and also feel so sad and mad that the last chapter wasn´t adressing chapter 7! I honestly thought I was the only person feeling as though it was somehow disconnected to the events happening prior. Totally enjoyed your rambling thoughts and expression your love and enjoyment of the book! I honestly need to check out your video about The Count of Monte Christo since I´m 100% struggling with that classic ^^`.
I love Anna Karenina!! It was my top favorite until I read Count of Monte Cristo!!! 🙌💕💕💕💕 I love Konstanin Levin a lot!, but Edmond Dantes is even more brilliant!!
Wow your enthusiasm makes me want to go back and reread AK... if only i wasn't in the middle of another mammoth book (Thackeray's Vanity Fair, which i also recommend btw).
The movie with Sean Bean and that french actress that played in Braveheart was really the best version. I never read the book but after this i think i will.
coming back to your channel after kissing mooonths of videos is so comforting 💖 i’ve missed you so so much bella, so glad you’re still here and making safe content
I stopped after about 300 pages bc I was so bored of Levin x farming....... but you just inspired me to give it another chance! I especially loved Kitty, so it's worth reading just for her and Anna anyways! Thanks for the video, and for the inspiration :)
I read Anna Karenina two years ago and loved it, but i feel like soooo much went over my head ahhh Your video makes me want to reread the book👀👀 But i also want to read War and Peace first-- I wish i had more time to read and more concentration for scary big classics😂😂
I loved W&P, finished it in just over two weeks; I think about it all the time, love everything about it. The BBC adaptation with Dano, James and Norton is 5 starts too. Currently reading Anna Karenina and I am enjoying it, only 200ish pages in though; 5⭐️ to Tolstoy.
I’m sooo late to this, I was out of the country on a trip before a week. Just wanted to say that I loved this video! This is making me wanna read Anna Karenina even though I have three other classics on my tbr and I’ve read little to nothing all month 😅
My mom brought Anna Karenina for me and it's a huge hardback edition i'm postponing starting it because i know even holding it will be a struggle lol P.S that google pronunciation is bad
okay so i haven't seen the end of the video yet, but did you notice the thing with Vronsky's teeth? The worse his situation/mental state/the state of his relationship to Anna, the worse his teeth gets and they are really bad by the end. truly amazing listening to your rant
I'm so glad you like Scum Villain because I recently bought that, HOB. and Grandmaster after seeing you read them. I've been eyeing HOB since before it even got licensed in English, so thanks for that push!! I'm not happy about the price of 8 HOB books, 4 Scum villains books, and 5 Grandmaster books tho 😢
Guys, the painstaking amount of trouble she had to go through to make this video ya🤧😮💨 imagine she didn't complete this book, there wouldn't have been a video😮 she's literally carrying the planet on her shoulders at this point. Take a bow, queen 💅👸 PS- I've been on a "athroneofpages videos watching spree" today. I'm not even kidding, only if I could've attached a screenshot of my RU-vid watch history😂 so the timing is just perfect👌😌
It took me over a year to finish it, I stopped around page 400 something because o was bored but I picked it up again and finished it just a few days ago . I liked it overall but I am not sure if I will read it again
(insert lady gaga gif) you're very good at describing / hyping up books so that I want to eventually read them. also, since you liked Serpent and the Wings of Night, you may like Silver Under Nightfall.
im only on part 3 of anna but my gods anna as a character gives off such polyamorous vibes! especially that one scene in part two (page 177). like literally all she wanted was to be happy with both her boys but society wont let her :(
