For another ✨ celebrity literature analysis ✨ I suggest you do Tom Hiddleston’s book recommendations. I think you’ll have the most fun with his favorites since you both really like Shakespeare.
And btw he was referring to the song. In the video “ Harry Styles opens fan-mail” someone asked why did you choose fine line to be the name of your album? And Harry answered by saying “ Well, I wrote the song called Fine Line and always thought it would be the last song on the album” so he did refer to fine line as the song. Just saying no offense to what you said Jack
"Siddhartha" was actually Gautam Buddha's name before his enlightenment. Read the book again after researching a bit on Buddhism, you'll appreciate the book better.
I would love to see a video review on book Marilyn Monroe read cuz a lot of people didn’t know she read a lot of books about a bunch of different topics that you wouldn’t imagine Marilyn Monroe reading

I plan on reading every single one in here and omg i knew it was gonna be one of those books, the once when u finish reading u just stand there asking yourself what did i just read? Did i read this right? Is there other pages? Nope. There is so many little stuff and details that u just wont get no matter what and that is incredible. It is a book that makes u think reflect and be open to new things that u r not used to like a literal new society and bend ur mind to understand them it was so cool to read this, that is something so unusual n unique btw im barely 14 so i may get some details wrong
pleaseeeeee keep doing these videos, i love that someone of my generation is as interested in literature in popular culture. i feel like books, poems and novels are becoming labelled as a more and more "boring" subject, and you doing these videos are really important to keep our generation involved in it. i dont think that made sense but hey ho :)
Yes. I find myself more and more wrapped up into genre fiction such as fantasy and crime now a days too. Lately that thought has been vaguely gnawing at me. There must be good contemporary fiction outside of this. Why haven't I heard of them?
Jack talking about Bukowski's language : "simple, but so effective" Me, a Directioner in 2021 : FLASHBACK TO----- Louis: "Will you marry me? " Harry: "simple, but effective "
Murakami is my favorite author. I was introduced to him in my first year of college and I've recommended his books to everyone. Please read more from him if you haven't already
@@msnair3603 I say they are all worth reading. My biggest suggestion for reading Murakami is to take your time and really think about what you're reading. Sometimes you can get lost in how blunt/weird his stories get, but they are always deep and contain meaning beyond the words on the page. My current favorite is Kafka on the Shore. I haven't had the chance to read it but I've heard 1Q84 is also really good. Hope you love your new book!!
@@dpeace6015 Totally agree with you. His writing seems a bit weird at first read but when you sit and think about it, it starts making so much sense that sometims I just lose my mind at how accurately he can hit the nail. Reading his books is an experience no other author has ever been able to gift me!! And yeah, Kafka On The Shore is definitely one of my top 3s. Currently reading Pinball, 1973 :)
Same by far my favourite. I have every book hes written except the non fiction about classical music. I agree kafka on the shore is such a good one. I also loved dance dance dance (although didnt realise it was the sequel so makes more sense if you've read a wild sheep chase), and wind up bird chronicle. Killing commentator is really interesting but very long so not an easy start. South of the border, west of the sun is the one I recommend for people getting into murakami. Its not so long and sort of dials up his style through it so you get eased into it. I adore his writing though. And that he uses punctuation the way people think rather than strict grammar rules. With the surrealist style you find somehow his writing always has a metaphor to fit your life at the time.
And now Harry is apparently starring in 'my policeman' in the role of Jack. If this is actually true I think this movie will be the last thing I see because it would kill me (in a good way)
I really loved how you analyzed Harry’s songs to draw comparisons! It’s really cool to see how the literature he reads influences his own song writing.
"Simple but so effective" on Love is a Dog from Hell reminds me of when Harry said, "Simple but effective." Was that intentional because that was perfect
Jack, thanks for taking the time to explain "big" words that you use. Literally warms my heart as even though I've been studying in English for the past 5 years I sometimes get overwhelmed when I do not recognize or remember what a word means. You are gentle with language, as one should be. Cheers from Toronto!
Not sure why the RU-vid algorithm recommended your videos but I've watched about three of them now I and I like your presentation style. You've convinced me to buy some of the book you've mentioned here (and from your video about the 124 books you've read in 2020). I think I'll be getting Norwegian Wood first
Jack do one for Zayn too, Zayn has in the past said in interviews that he would've majored in English if he wasn't an artist, he's written a lot of poems himself which are in his limited edition book Zoems(not available anymore unfortunately).
YES omg hes such a deep thinker and loves literature and u can see it in his lyrics , i dont think he shared any of the books he reads, do u have any suggestions?
Really hope you rediscover your love for Spanish lit. If you need some new inspo, I suggest looking at the reading lists other universities have for their Spanish courses - you can discover writing about themes that interest you specifically. Un abrazo ❤️
@@philippawood5047 totallyyyy. la literatura española tiene tantísimo para dar, solo hace falta estar abiertxs a encontrarla. que triste que le suceda eso a esta chica
I officially feel old! I don’t know Harry Styles’ music (I’m in my 30s and not much into music culture). But he seems like a great role model for kids and adults alike, and he has excellent book recommendations. Adding all these to my TBR.
So Harry Styles recommended book called " My policeman " and now he has role in the movie based on this book. The power he holds is unbelivable! PROUD💚
Tell me how you found the book when you finish it! Personally I thought the main protag was kind of an asshole, which was disappointing because this book is held to such high esteem :( I wonder if anyone has the same thoughts as me?
@@violett5418 to be fair I don't *think* the book is supposed to have a likable protagonist? I think it's more about the relationships between characters
I read the book after somebody in a youtube comment sectiom said that it was his favourite book and I was so disappointed. His writing style just doesn't do a lot for me and I was also very much disturbed by that one sex scene (I think you know which one I mean).
@@kristinbornemeier2523 I totally get what you mean! I think Murakami is quite hit-or-miss for most. For my personal taste there is too much inconsequential sex in all of the books I have read by him. Especially THAT sex scene in "norwegian wood" is something I try to ignore whenever I re-read it. Still it has a special place in my heart. Also just fyi: a lot of his main characters are very similar (age, personality, motivations etc.), which is great if you enjoyed Watanabe, but if you didn't... you probably won't like many other Murakami novels. (I'm starting to get quite sick of his writing myself, after having binged 3 of his books recently)
@@bebitter Yeah I know what you mean. For me THAT sex scene really ruined the whole book for me. I mean it would be fine if he had mentioned for plot reasons but I really dislike how descriptive he was about that particular scene. Still, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Also started reading Kafka on the Shore but have abandoned it currently. I think I just can't relate to or sympathise with the characters just like with Sally Rooney's "Normal People".
@@kristinbornemeier2523 I have a similar opinion about it. The hype of the book baffles me. I couldn't find anything gripping in it and after I had finished reading it, I wished I had never read it. The characters were bland, unrelatable and even annoying. The plot mostly seemed to comprise of sex + death. Although there were a couple things that I liked, I was disappointed with what so many people recommend as a must-read.
@@kristinbornemeier2523 I'm 100% with you on "normal people". SO mayn people love it, but I could never see myself or any of my friends acting similar to (both or either of) the main characters so I really didn't understand how the plot kept playing out lmao + Sally Rooney's writing didn't help, just... bland.
11:09 Thank you Jack for being brutally honest about the book... I really liked the way you openly told that you didn't like it. And still you had to lighten the mood up by appreciating the cover lol that was so cute and nice of you♥
I was wondering what Harry was reading and what he'd recommend. Thanks for this video, since the past 2 years I have read more books then I have in my whole entire life tbh! Just got 4 books for my birthday and a book gift card which I'm most definitely am going to spend on at least 2 of these books, covered in this video! So thank you again!
Just wanna point out that it is impossible to separate the concept of “Camp” from sexuality (and Gender) considering its origins are deeply rooted in the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in the communities and culture of black and brown LGBTQ+ people.
Just want to say that I'm so happy I chanced upon this channel. Was always curious about the books these people read and if they were worth reading. So thank you for this and can't wait to see more! 💕
i can't get enough of this. the king of literature himself analysing the king of pop music. speechless. also very impressed jack read that many books in a week
Thanks so much for this, Jack! I recently became a fan of Harry’s, and I heard an interview of his in which he recommended Norwegian Wood. Since I had just finished a book and was looking for something else to read, I decided to give it a try, and although I’m still a little more than halfway through, I really like it so far. I’ll have to see if I can find My Policeman and Three Women. Both of those caught my attention.
this video pretty much sums up my life: researching anything but things that will help me in uni + harry styles + an unhealthy amount of escapism by reading books.
I absolutely adored Norwegian Wood! It was such a great book. There weren't a lot of plot twist but that was exactly what this book needed for it to be so amazing. I read it so quickly. Especially towards the end, it just leaves you wondering "What the hell just happened?" and you kinda have to figure out the end yourself as there isn't a clear description of how Toro's life goes on after what happens in the book.
I accidentally found your channel 4 days ago and ever since, I've been on a Jack-a-thon. The way you are so invested in what you do is so evident and it makes people like me who can't keep up with reading, want to read. So I'm just gonna go ahead and order a few of these books. Also because Hazza 😭♥️ Thanks for this beautiful mix of literature and pop culture.
I've added so many of these books to my Goodreads and now trying to restrain myself from buying all of them omfg! This was such a cool video idea, I loved it!
Watching Namjoon's recommended books, Taylor's now Harry Styles'.. made me realize i need to start reading books again. Books not related to my work lol
Oh my God i enjoyed the video so much. Thank you Jack for putting so much effort into each and every one of your videos. Can you make this a series? Where you can talk about any new book that you are reading or music you are listening to or movie you are watching, from the perspective of an english literature graduate. I have a very stressful job and i had practically stopped reading books just for fun because i was just so busy. But your video reminded me how happy and excited i used to feel after reading a good book. Thank you so much.
I love how Jack was like “I was researching for the video” as if he wouldn’t have watched all those videos anyway 😹😹 amazing vid btw I love these sorts of videos 🧡
Haruki Murakami is without doubt one of the best writers. The first book I read of him was the 'A Wind up bird chronicle'. I was in love with that book. It made the reader reflect themselves. It was so confusing and complex, yet so beautiful. Each time I read it, I still get a different interpretation of the whole book, its just THAT good
Definition cards: "Memoir." "Eponymous." "Verisimilitude." When you've spent three years talking your degree every day and becoming a specialist but the past six months have been in quarantine with a camera. "I know these words. I must use them or I will explode." : - )
I love Haruki Murakami. He is my favourite author. Harry’s got good taste. I started with Norwegian Wood and from there I ended up purchasing so many of his books. Slowly building my Murakami collection.
My fav part about his videos is how he immediately explains the complicated words. Like yeah I could pause the video and google it, but something about being told the meaning of a word right after you hear it in a conversation/for the first time makes it more easier for me to understand it better Tysm for that Jack
yeah it is one of those few things that are SHOCKING. like how? why? I mean COMEONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN... WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SMOKIN?? sorry jus got to let it out once in a while. :-)
