I truly appreciate that you said that it’s based on a defunct wolf theory of hierarchies - too many folks still think it’s a thing and I feel bad for the researcher guy who spent the rest of his career trying to undo his mistake 😅
I'm 3 minutes in and I'm already rolling on the floor. I had read my fair share of A/B/O fanfics - I did not know there are books. This is disturbing. I really thought this is just an AO3 thing, damn... Thank you for the Halloween scare.
omg girl, there's so much more 😭 there's manga, a tv drama, and even an upcoming anime about omegaverse ☠ it has completely broken out of the fandom bubble and idk how to feel about it 😭
There’s a growing trend in a/b/o fiction I’ve noticed (specifically bl comics, bc that’s what I’ve read lololol) of more healthy relationships, which I very much appreciate. I think I’ve only read one straight a/b/o novel and haaaated it because of the unhealthy possessiveness (which, I think in certain circumstances, can be done in a way that isn’t toxic) 😅😅
yes its very sweet, i kind of like the new trope of the alpha being possessive by nature but doing their best to push it aside or channel it in more healthy ways because they don't want to hurt or upset their mate
As someone who has read a lot of comics and manhwa, I have to admit that the two most wholesome ones I've ever read were a/b/o bl comics. Which I did not expect.
🐺 I genuinely didn’t expect there to be so much sweetness in this? At the beginning, I couldn’t have imagined you would have liked it, but I guess the actual stories were surprisingly good 🐺
Sara 😂😂 I'm cackling. This was so educational and informative I didn't know how much I didn't know 💀. The thuds from the bubble wand pointer really help get the point across 🤣
ngl it's always funny to me the whole introduction to the omegaverse bc its either good (many times bc they get introduced to it by a book) or absolutely horrible (mostly bc they find it thru a fanfic) 😂
Don’t know if it qualifies as omegaverse but the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward has a ton of similarities. Main characters are Vampires but doesn’t follow the usual tropes. Includes nontoxic relationships and fated love, bonding, social hierarchy, etc. Also lots of great character development and world building. Would highly recommend ❤🐺
Okay I’m finishing watching and I’m now curious if there is a sapphic side to the omegaverse as so far it seems somewhat hetero or gay/bi man centric - now I think I want to write one and I don’t know how to feel about this development 😂
omg slay babe you found a subgenre that suits you! I kinda like omegaverse and fated mate adjacent tropes when done well, theres something nice about the closeness of mates and learning to love someone you didn't necessarily choose for yourself, its nice
There was a gothic soap called Dark Shadows in the 60s that kind of employs some of these Omegaverse elements... Alpha: Barnabas Collins (vampire) and Angelique (witch), Beta: Victoria Winters (outsider.. ingenue), Julia Hoffman (outsider, scientist), and Omegas: Josette Collins (object of obsession for Barnabas.. and Angelique's victim.).
I'll never get into omegaverse because the idea of getting/being pregnant is very alien to me (I'm a cis woman who doesn't want children), and the idea of male pregnancy makes me positively nauseous. But I'm glad to see that there are some stories that don't deal with the toxic waste that's nowadays so popular in books.
Oh but Lola and the Millionaires is the sequel to Baby and the Late Night Howlers! I guess you don't have to read Baby's story to read Lola's but you'll understand her much better if you do.
No, the wolf thing actually came after the heat/rut thing, which in turn came from Dark Angel which had Jensen Ackles from Supernatural as a mutant with cat DNA whose female counterpart was shown to go into feline heat. Supernatural fans found out and started the building blocks, then the werewolf people and the mpreg people came in and added the rest. So it's more a mix of catboy heat/werewolves/vague wolf stuff and getting cis men pregnant every so often
Hilarious video! I'm not into ABO, but I have read other books by Kathryn Moon and have really enjoyed them. She does a good job balancing shmex with plot.
Ngl I was very surprised by the end of the video to see you enjoyed the books lol, but I am glad! Tbh I have read omegaverse for a couple of years and I dont even care what ppl think, I am an adult and I like what I like. However I mostly read MM/FF/queer books as I am queer myself so I cant comment on MF omegaverse lol. Anyway, about the Kelex book, I started by the second book of that series for some reason lol, now I will go back to it to start it from the actual beginning. I thought the universe they created was intriguing and the writting was good, which are the two things I always want in any book. Regarding some contents, I'd say omegaverse is different for every author, meaning that each can change/have their own rules though the most 'basic' ones are shared. I am curious to see if you maybe keep reading more from this subgenre. Thanks for the vid!
I've never actually read a published book with omegaverse, but I don't read much ABO fanfic either. It's not normally something I gravitate towards. I do enjoy pack dynamics though. The ones that have found family vibes. It can be really sweet when done right. This video makes me want you to do a video reading fanfics though.🐺
Omegaverse is totally unhinged but so fun! As a RH girlie, I love my omegaverse books, especially the ones that are non-shifter and have some bullying/grovel going on. Those are my fave. I love the angst that comes with the rejected mate trope. Would recommend Pack Darling by Lola Rock and FOR SURE the Ironside Academy by Jane Washington.
Having been someone who's interacted and read omegaverse for years I wasn't phased by the explanation, however, my friend who wasn't very well versed was extremely confused and scarred. I found this very funny lol
i’m literally so glad you liked lola and the millionaires because it’s one of my favorite books (probably a 4.5 ⭐️ for me because i related a lot to lola about the not feeling good enough stuff and whatnot) and i was prepared to defend it WITH MY LIFE…. but i didn’t need to so thank you for being open minded about omegaverse and the books that go with it!!! :)
Random tangent, but I wonder when that Lola and the Millionaires was written because I can't remember the last time I saw a romance have millionaires instead of billionaires. Millionaires are so ten years ago.
I got spammed with omegaverse advertisement a few months back (the books and fanfics) and blocked them all because it was getting out of hand and also, no thanks, I'm not interested. Now I'm watching this video and I swear, if this screws up my advertising algorithm again you are getting the bills for my mental health! 😂
okay putting it out there, i don’t need shaming i get it, but one of my favorite artists has a take on betas that they’re an important part of the pack because their phermones can help control the alphas and omegas. and personally, i liked that a lot more than “they’re just common humans not the special hypersexualized ones”
knotting is actually a real thing in animals- ☝🤓 also alpha usually knot when they're in a rut or, as you said, when they're especially horny (usually when their mate is in heat)
I stumbled across omegaverse in 2020, when I naturally had a lot of free time to read because my entire country was shut down. And... I read some crazy shit. It's not MY thing. But I can get the appeal. I'm into MM but not mpreg. Not preg in general. But yeah, that was an experience that low-key scarred me for life. But I am willing to give it a shot again sometime if I find something that sounds interesting. I do read some shifter stuff, that is mainly Why Choose (reverse harem is not a great term) with FMC. That's interesting too. Again, not super my thing. But it's fun to read something a bit different. 🐺 I do like me some polyamory, queer, why choose tho so if you have any reccs, feel free to drop them.
I enjoy your fun recaps of books and genres so much and that you're not afraid to say it like it is. And respect that you fought your way through that sub genre 🎉 I personally like the sweet omegaverse and Kathryn Moon is top nodge in that and the fantasy genre in general. I read a couple of her books/series now and her characters are well developed and the relationships are built on respect and communication. Her style of writing smut doesn't hurt either 😅 another good sweet omegaverse writer is Grace McGuinty and her Manix series. I absolutely can't recommend Addison Cane and most of the dark omegaverse stories. They so often take the fmc agency away in horrible ways it's sickening. Thanks for the work you put in explaining the omegaverse.
I will say that venturing into the omegaverse stuff nowadays will leave you with a majority of AI written tiktok brainrot of novels. 😢 Which is so incredibly sad since some of the best stuff I've read has been omegaverse! A lot of people immediately get turned off because of the sex aspect that's become pretty prevalent, but like the mpreg one, there's also quite a bit out there that focus mostly on character development. Like I've read one that was a relationship between an alpha and a sigma (equal in status to alpha but usually outside of pack ideals ie lone wolf). You just have to pick an author that introduces the world building before the characters. Those are typically the ones that will be the most interesting. Anything that flips the standard brainrot dynamic of controlling alpha male is mated to submissive omega female. 🐺
i’m 5 mins in and hearing this explained so matter of factly is crazy. omergaverse isn’t meant to be explained to you comprehensively, you’re supposed to accidentally stumble upon it in a fic tag and slowly piece together what the fuck the story has decided to be, and take a deep hard look at yourself and decide if you’re ready to embark on this journey or if you’re gonna exit out of that tab and act like you don’t know what knotting is
I didn't know about the Omegaverse! Although I have been reading, Lora Leigh's Breed series since it started in 2003 and has almost all of these elements. 😮😂
when I first heard about the omegaverse I was so excited but not because of the s3x parts, but because of the whole hierarchy and how this universe can make men feel the fear of getting pregnant and taken advantage of by a power dynamic in a way that women experience it in this universe. but so many stories just focus on s3x and i just end up disappointed...
Thank you for this video. I hadn't a clue what this meant. I asked myself ^do I want to google this?* and the answer was no *lol* I am glad I waited bc I learned a lot.
I don't generally like ABO, but my favourite story is (surprise surprise) a fanfic XD My Hero Academia fanfic, to be precise, the ABO element is not really focused on that much and the pairing is Alpha/Beta. I enjoy unconventional pairings, pretty much anything but the traditional Alpha/Omega
I think the second book might of only had men bc the idea of woman being born as omegas and HAVING to mate up with (male) alphas to be safe, (from other men alphas?) Has some very Eek connotations
We tried reading mpreg type books with a few friends, but it didn't go as we expected. I didn't like the books we read at all. I don't know, it didn't seem interesting to me at all. And I prefer to read reverse harem with mm type books, but of course, I respect if anyone likes it, but it was not for me.
