"Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema" was an essay written in 1975 by Laura Mulvey where the term "the male gaze" was coined. In this video I'll be going through the essay and explaining what it actually says. In the end I'll also mention "the female gaze", if it exists, and what it would look like!

Great work! Freudian theory has pretty much always rubbed me the wrong way, especially being asexual, but I do find its application in this essay interesting. Looking forward to future videos on this topic!

Yeah, I 100% agree with you! Mulvey said in the essay that she was gonna use freudian theory as a "political weapon" and I really think she accomplished that goal :)

Dont look at anyone and if you do, dont like it in any way. Got it. Hopefully humanity will go extinct soon so women won't have to deal with being looked at, because that must be terrible to be admired by someone. Just awful.
