OH YES I do know how you feel Chris. Was removing the OEM bolt to put a new harmonic balancer on, and it broke. Had to drill it out. Took almost 6 hours because of the location/angle. Both of us won't soon forget!!

Hey, things happen. You might consider doing the LS6 valley cover conversion. Get rid of all those PCV hoses and lines.

For more stubborn bolts that you can't get out by hand like that, a mig welder makes it super easy. Get a nut that has an internal thread about the same size as the bolt, or just slightly smaller. A couple of zaps later, you have a cap head bolt you can put a socket on.

Wow, I think everyone's worst nightmare. By the way, you might want to replace your knock sensors with OEM ones while you are in there, just a thought. I have had mine go bad in my 2001 Ls1. it may prolong having to get back in there. Glad everything worked out for you. God bless!

Good job Chris! I know the feeling 100% I did the same on my timing chain cover. Same technique and same results. Oddly enough mine was at 79lbs because I forgot to tighten the nut on the torque wrench and setting moved while I was cranking.

I'm so sorry that that happened to you buddy!! I would've never imagine something like that would've happened to you tho, I mean you are so freaking careful on every detail when you work on your car that one never imagine that could've happened to you, but shit happens good thing you got it out tho!! I just replace my check valves from the secondary air system, and I had to remove the intake manifold I was so afraid/nervous when I bolted back that I was sweating. Nice video!

Been there done that - just once like you. I did this years ago on my 87 C4 intake assembly, after a blown head gasket. I had to use an “easy-out” drill, as the end of the bolt was really jammed-in. So far, I haven’t had to remove or rebuild the intake manifold or heads on my 99 C5, because it only has 51,000 miles on it. Hopefully, your video keeps others from making torquing mistakes. I really appreciate your videos and advice. 🤓

Who’s your best friend... anti-seize, even though anti seize is for dissimilar metals it can and should be used in conservative amounts for all bolts not only will it allow that broken off bolt to be extracted easily it will prevent corrosion like almost all LS And Chrysler owners know (exhaust manifold bolts). Also for those of us that work on our vehicles often and take off components that we maybe put on a month ago it just makes the R&R so much easier. Typically any plastic components are inlb torque specs because the plastic can crack. I however just use my electric 1/4drive ratchet and run it down. Don’t stress too much about breaking bolts it’ll happen to every gear head eventually. Even if it had to be drilled out, because of the low torque spec a heli coil could’ve been used without any concern. If it were a head bolt I prefer timeserts they’re just a little beefier. Nice extraction of that bolt, takes a lot of patience and calm nerves.
@raykruger9989
@raykruger9989 4 года назад
Just don’t put anti-seize on lug nuts. I made that mistake on my 68 Camaro RS, and almost had the wheel come off as 3 lug nuts loosened while driving. 😲

@YoshiV819
@YoshiV819 4 года назад
You're lucky all that torque snapped the bolt and didn't pull the threads right out of the aluminum head! Broken bolts are a part of working on mechanical things. LH drills almost always work when loctite or corrosion are not in the picture. Invest in a set of easy outs as well and practice on a rusty hunk of scrap something. Broken bolts are really not not a big deal with a little practice. Having a helicoil kit isn't a bad idea either...

Like many in the comments, I've done something similar, but in my case, it was a mis-print in the instructions. Since then, I've torqued so many fasteners, I have a general idea of what the torque should be. Enjoying your videos, and just joined the C6 club (vicariously through one of my best friends;-)).

Sorry that happened. I did the same thing on the transmission pan on my 2007 Dodge Magnum. Used pound feet instead of pound inches. Sheared the bolt head right off! 😣
