In this episode of Whitetail Edge, Ben heads back to Illinois to punch his 2nd tag. Ben thinks he made a huge mistake and shot a future 200 inch whitetail!
immediately after the shot with conviction, you said, "There is no way we could have passed that deer". Just enjoy the moment. There is no disappointment in the moment of enjoyment. That's what hunting is all about.
Great show, Ben. He is definitely a young stud. The way he was acting and posturing, be optimistic he bred a few does and his offspring will grow into future giants. Thanks for sharing and thanks for your passion to chase mature bucks and manage your properties for them.
I did the same thing this year Ben. Humbling for sure, but i look back at the hunt itself and how great it was and try to remember that part of it. Great deer
I love the raw emotion and honesty of the situation! No sugar coating! People who are giving you grief don’t understand your personal goals and your passion. I really appreciate this video. That deer did look bigger walking in no doubt about it! Looked like he had more mass on the hoof. I’d blame the rain too 😂 for some reason when they are wet I feel it makes their antlers almost shine and appearing bigger haha.. Still an awesome deer. Got some great genetics around there.
Humbling expirence ben! Congratulations thanks for sharing. It was a great expirence nothing bad happend. This only makes you that much sharper on your knowledge. This might just a part of a BIGGER story. Thanks again
That was outstanding, from the food plots and you sharing your knowledge on the why, where , and how was incredible, this may sound weak but I absolute love the whole setup of a piece of property that your focus is on Whitetail, it's so interesting to me! To me, it wouldn't even matter if I got in a tree stand or out hunting , I'm a crazy hardwoods, food plots, whitetail habit nut! Anyway, you called it, your content has no nonsense, call it as you see it, love that honesty! Hey I try always to look at the good that came from that hunt , that buck was supposed to killed on that day at that time with your partner filming the hunt, thats what i got out of the hunt. That buck wasn't making thru the winter, so he was taken at that moment, that was a great shot , great Whitetail. Your next 200 inch Whitetail is gonna be named redemption. Thanks for the great content. I learned so much from this video.
We’ve all done it Ben, it makes all the more determined to be better managers of our deer in the future and I suspect the pain of this will prevent you from ever doing it again. You’re a great hunter and land manager 👍
No shame in it Ben!! Hell of a buck man, I truly think he looks like a 4 year old. It happens man. He got you pumped and you had a hunt that a lot of guys never will get to experience. Keep it up man! Keep that head high!
Man I want to screw up on a 180 class 3yr old so bad. 😂 I get it! What he could have become and the level of hunter you are. Just we are in different universes in hunting... awesome buck and cool footage!
That's more likely an early (May fawn) borned 4.5 yr old vs a 3.5 bcz his body more indicative of a 4.5 like u said. But ur absolutely correct that it needs 1-2 more yrs and he'll b a 200" cher
Looks like a really nice 4 year old. Congrats on a good deer! Thats a dandy man, I know youre pushing for 5+, but we are human and we make mistakes. Next year isint always a guarantee. Weve passed them, next year get smaller, or neighbor kills it, ehd, vehicle, poacher the list goes on. Thats an amazing deer and yes possibly a 200 most likely. Do you go out to simply shoot a 5+? Who is passing that deer in your area of neighbors? Better be a hell of a bond between neighbors. I missed a 250" 38 pt at 30 yards after 2 full seasons chasing him. I know your frustration at times. Enjoy the hunt.
He would of been something a lot bigger especially if he was only 3 and grew a lot since last season all his points were short and had lots of growth room! It’s ok buddy
That buck would have been a mega in 3 years..Unbelievable genetics. I'm glad u admitted u screwed up, and it shows how it can happen to anyone . Unfortunately, most great genetic bucks do get shot by someone at 3 years old..
I did the same thing this pass year also. I had this nine pointer on camera which looked like a 4-5 yr old but after I shot him only a 3yr old & should have gave him another year or two. My bad 😣 I just got caught up in the moment.
Certainly wasn’t a mistake. Legal, made your heart rate rise, had a clean ethical shot and your excitement afterwards in the tree are what it is about. There is enough shaming in the hunting world as it is, feeling upset with yourself afterwards for size?!?! Most would be ecstatic while others will go a lifetime and never even get an opportunity with a Buck of this caliber. Enjoy the harvest! The internet, hunting shows and commercialized hunting have ruined hunting. Let’s get back to no trail cameras, no video, no records and harvest for meat for the table. Sorry for the rant.🦌🇺🇸🙏
Who cares you lived in the moment and your instincts said take the shot. That's what hunting is all about. Shoot what you want and what gets your heart rate up.
Whatever! If your goal is to only shoot a 200 then yes, you screwed up. But if you choose to hunt and enjoy yourself and take a beautiful whitetail giant you succeeded. I think I speak for most people and that most of us wouldn't have been disappointed in taking a giant like that.
Guess what dude you have killed plenty of big deer. Makes me sick to watch you go from being pumped up having your buddy in tree with you then all sudden its a pitty party cause your afraid people gonna look down on you for shooting a young deer get off your high horse amd enjoy the experience and memories
