7:47 , when you trade or cut guys, they incur a “cap penalty” which is essentially dead cap meaning you essentiallly have to pay them even if they aren’t on your team. The bigger the contract, the bigger the penalty usually. That’s why you saw -30 mil after trading your 3 biggest contracts. You can see what their penalty will be if you go into team salaries, or you can see it on the NFL Rosters tab on manage team.
Do note the penalty only occurs the first off season after you release players with a dead cap. Afterwards it’s all paid off and the cap space will jump back up
Make sure to set your depth chat regular season week 1, especially after year 1. The cpu will sign free agents to fill out the roster to the minimum needed and that resets the depth chart, which explains why Judah Hail didn’t get the numbers you expected

As short as I can think to about salary cap: From your manager roster section you can find player salaries. In there, the savings and penalty are the two columns to pay attention to. Best calls are players whose savings outweighs the penalty If you trade/cut a player in season, the penalty is split between current and next season. Doing so in the offseason applies the whole penalty to the upcoming season only.
Next rebuild you do go to team salaries and it shows you the dead cap it gives you if you trade players away.. ex. Signing bonus instead of pure salary are where that dead cap comes from because you if pay mahomes 50 mill a year but 25 mill salary and 25 mill signing bonus you’d have to still pay for the signing bonus, you can also reconstruct contracts this year and it tells you what it would look like if you were to reconstruct for the following 2 years before you actually do it which is nice
Papa, when you trade or cut a player, all of their guaranteed money (I believe it’s their salary for their remaining years) gets paid upfront. When you traded Mahomes, you pay all of the salary on the rest of his contact in the year you traded him. If you do to contracts, up top you can see your dead cap. You can also clear said dead cap if you do another challenge like this, and don’t want to deal with it.
The fact that you so easily got the team to 99 overall is the exact reason you have to stop juicing draft classes. It makes it way too easy since there aren't really any early round busts or guys that just don't develop.
For the salary cap check a players penalty for that year. So since the three superstars you traded had large contracts they had a large penalty as well.
I feel on your next rebuild you should use normal strength draft class. Too me it’s way too easy since more than half the people are hidden devs and mid to high 70ovrs off rip.
You can clear dead cap for a challenge like this if you want, you go to members tab which is under settings, then click on your team/hc and click “clear cap penalties”
MATTTT, when trading in franchise you can see when the team you’re trading with is interested in your players / picks. It’s color coordinated, (Green = high interest) (Yellow = mid interest) (Red = little to no interest) it’s at the top corner of the player you’d trade!
