@@alisklai think of how wild it is to hear the attempt live as a judge... Imagine: Another song executed perfectly. You are aware of the song currently finishing and it was performed very well for high schoolers. You notice they ended before a popluarized solo... You've seen the film and brush it off... And then you hear the rapping begin... You think to yourself, "No child has actually tried to learn this solo" as you begin to reason your disbelief... The solo continues... Your eyebrows raise as you match the notes being played in your head with the child's. Perfection... You raise from your seat in awe and pride as you watch a young man pour his entire being into his recreation. That is why we teach, that is why we cheer
I just know for a fact that there had to have been at least one young kid in that audience who heard that and immediately signed up for drum lessons. Absolutely flawless
Yeah, Miles Teller was receiving drumming lessons for 4 hours a day to prepare him for his role in Whiplash. Whilst he tried to make the solo look as realistic as possible in the film, the audio you hear isn't actually his playing

What the fuck? That was incredible. Wow. How the hell did you approach that uptempo swing with the hi hat on 2+4 while playing that disparate, slower stuff between the snare and toms and bass drum? Like, around 1:40
tried doing some independence stuff like doing fast swing on hihat and ride but just like accenting randomly but kinda still musically the snare and toms. Hope that helps!
This is genuinely one of the best youtube videos I have seen. It seems so true to the original and the atmosphere in that concert must have been electric! Your drumming was excellent! Keep up the good work!
Since I’ve seen it, Whiplash has easily been my favorite movie I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t tell you how many recreations of the ending cover I’ve seen but this is by far one of the coolest fucking ones. Rivals Greyson Nekrutmans on cool factor.
That was one of the most impressive and incredible things I’ve seen in while. My dad showed me the movie and I’ve rewatched it many times. He’s also frequently quoting things like “not my tempo” so it’s embedded in my brain. It would be fun to imagine you just did this on the spot but the effort it takes to memorize the solo is incredible…
OK KUYA (I’m Filipino). But fr, damn. I think you passed high school, even college, with that one. Sucks for anyone who had no idea wtf was going on. Pro stuff right there.
