Anish Basu Roy is probably known for his appearance in Shark Tank India’s very first season. Anish’s start-up, Tagz Foods, managed to get funding from Ashneer Grover. But much before he started Tagz, Anish Basu Roy had a rich line-up of experiences working with top corporate companies.

A graduate of SCMHRD, Anish started his career at Coca-Cola. He then went on to work at Nokia. Anish earned about the food and beverage industry with Coke. Deciding to found his own company, Anish started Shotang, an on-cloud marketplace for manufacturers, retailers, and distributors.
Anish shares highlight from his time at SCMHRD and tells us how he considered HR as a career but ended up doing sales. An engineer who graduated from SCMHRD, Anish took many seemingly strange pivots in his career. Anish ran Shotang, a first-of-its-kind marketplace in India, from 2013-2018. Once he exited Shotang, Anish traveled to understand consumer mindsets across the country. Having lived in many state capitals of India, Anish next decided to work with HealthifyMe.
While the tech was (and still is) the flavor of the season, Anish was sure he did not want to work in the tech sector as that was not his strength. Instead, he decided to become a part of the crowded food industry with Tagz Foods. Born from insights on how Indian urban consumers shop, Anish decided to focus on a few products at Tagz including Chips, dips, and chocolates.
Check out this conversation for insights on markets, consumer trends, and life and career advice. Here are some highlights:
✔ I am a strong believer in the fact that more than functional learning, what really matters is cultural learning.
✔ Cultural learning is extremely important for sales roles.
✔ Taking a gap year and traveling to understand cultural context will probably add value to your CV at this time.
✔ Running a venture-funded start-up is like running a high-speed train.
✔ Make time to take time off for yourself and figure out where you want to go next in life.

This anchor never shows a body language that he is listening with interest to most of his own guests, low patience, always interrupts to prove his intellect , not super bad in this interview but fed up of watching his same pattern 🤦‍♂️ come out of insecurity man ✌🏻

Just a random comment from a random viewer. I'd be really really awesome if you add single seater sofas for the speakers so they are absolutely comfortable and this thing doesn't bothers them infront of the audience as I have noticed that some of your speakers got bothered with the long chair that doesn't has any comfortable hand bars. That's it! You guys are awesome and I absolutely adore your content! ❤️👌👍

few things he missed about why he didn't speak about is old start up 300 cr valuation but still closed he should have shared learnings. then why did he chooses sharktank route general people who raised million of dollars will not go in a shark tank route because you won't get much money and your most stake gets diluted.

It is not doable for a kid who belongs to a lower middle-class family to take a year gap and travel. For travelling also you need a certain amount of money and in India majority of the families are lower-middle-class families.

The first time I saw a gap year was in an Israeli resume while I was working in the US. Possible for them as they can go to EU and some other countries visa free. While we indians will be kicked out of consulates if we don't have a job.
