KGP is one of the very few places among old 5 IITs where taking EE is sort of a disadvantage as KGP has an ECE department where folks don't have to go through any courses related to power. So, I do agree while being in EE at KGP might be slightly disadvantageous, ECE at KGP is overall a much better experiences, which none of the other 4 old IITs have.
Yes Amogh you can get, the only difference is the number of companies you can sit for. Electrical student can apply for 50 software companies for example, but mech can apply for 30..... Random examples dont go with exact figures, just to give a rough idea

I am from iit kgp mech dept i pretty much wasted my life, it's not even circuital there's no placement guarantee, it company won't allow to sit for placement, i would never recommend to choose non cs branches rather you should go for cs in tier 3 pvt colleges it's better for you, or else, here you'll hardly get 6lpa after 4 yrs of rigorous academics, is the situation more dreadful or my life idk, slowly you get dragged into this mud, people start blaming you that you did not study, first for not getting circuital second for not getting placement, then you'll do mba after paying 23-24L you'll get a job if 13lpa in talking about top iims, iim Calcutta i know someone. So do not waste your life like this core engineering is a consequence of your low rank or not studying that you are now paying. It is even better that you don't study, just go and enjoy your life, this iit craze is bullshit, iit delhi or iit bombay people get jobs, attention girls and everything, after those there's no difference than a tier 3 college, I'm not talking about circuital branches. I wish i was dead. When you don't value what you got then you'll say mistake or whatever. Mostly core branch students have 3 options after btech mba/ms, placement in some consulting firm or business enterprise or suicide, last option most viable.

Bhai according to my response sheet in jee advance option A is correct and according to answer key option B is correct statement of both the option is same only difference is in my response sheet it is option A and in answer key it is B is there problem
