the more of your videos I watch the more they make sense, and i love coming back to a video like this one that went completely over my head when it came out and now so many of the concepts are more second nature. you're the best!!

Nice video! You recreated the effect so accurately that I realized Wider is not fully mono compatible! The left and right channels of the comb filter are nulling due to the phase being reversed is one of them and since the effect nulls when summed back to mono then what you're left with is the original signal ONLY IF the input signal is mono but if the input signal is stereo then you end up with a hike in volume. I'm actually really surprised that this wasn't remedied in Wider since all it takes it to solo the sides of the effect and blend it all back in with the dry signal. This is how Ozone Imager and other fully mono compatible stereorizer plug-ins work.

Thanks!! Yeah I noticed this during my testing too but I figured it was a bit outside the scope of the video. Separating the side signal and blending it back in is actually a great idea though, maybe I can look into implementing it in this rack! Thanks for watching and for the comment. :)

Totally depends on context! I agree on some sounds I really don't like the sound of it, but others it sounds totally fine. I actually prefer my version of wider because of the 'tone' control though, hahaha.
