Wow, you clearly understand the song. I've been sitting here listening to all the covers of this song I can find and yours is amazing. Thank you so much.
Can not see how this cover has seen so few views for the time it has been posted. Please, share the good cover with your Prine friends. Good job Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HEARD JOHN PRINE SING THIS EARLIER TODAY AND THOUGHT WHAT A GREAT SONG. YOUR VERSION IS AMAZING DAVE. I'M GONNA HAVE TO LISTEN TO SOME OF YOUR OTHER SONGS. YOU GOT TALENT FOR SURE. CHEERS, JOHN LEON
I love to hear John Prine’s recordings of this. Now I love Dave Dalton’s recording of it. Makes me stop thinking and just listen like a dumb kid. The pathos is so intimate and I admire a great deal the respect and good taste with which this was handled. The second quality is also superb.
Good job. Your phrasing really captures the essence of the song. John’s songs are more difficult to “get right” than people think. A song like Christmas in Prison is usually sung too fast. You need to let his songs breathe, just like you did here.
only a heavy voice can sing this song...a soft feminine voice won`t cut it...that`s just the way it is...if a song is written by a fm then only a woman can do it justice and the same with a song written by a man....still everyone loves this song and there is no law stating what you can or can`t do....this just from a musical sounding point of view.....
