Similar to the opening story about donations. My dad used to work at a pretty big library and they had a donation area on the back of the building, intended for books and other media that the library could use themselves or at least sell at book sales and stuff to raise money to put back into the library. People would never leave literal garbage that I ever saw, it's in a pretty ritzy area, but they would just leave junk they didn't need or want anymore, and sometimes there was some real treasure left there, and anything the library couldn't use or sell, my dad got first dibs to take and I would get it sold. We used to make a ton of money on the side selling the stuff he would find and bring home, it was basically a full-time job all by itself.

bro i work for goodwill donation attendant. people donate so much garbage, dirty or broken shit its kinda insane. people just show up with a u-haul and expect u to just take all the furniture or garbage. (even though we don't accept furniture).

Yeah the one I worked at (which is the same one NL did, but at a different specific store) eventually ended up declining furniture because a lot of it just ended up trashed (even the fire department that originally would take the stuff to help out fire victims recover stopped). Eventually that entire sub franchise of Goodwill shut down overnight with 6mil in debt and a lot of questionable finances. And besides the overnight dumpers, you’d straight up get the 1800GotJunk trunks and stuff pulling up. Or people trying to offload CRT tvs in 2014. Even as the front shop went, it was infested with people buying stuff to resell on Kijiji or Craigslist, or to ship overseas. Then they raised prices to match those and no one could get anything decent unless they caught it becoming out, everything on the store floor was kind of crap. People rushing the stock carts and actually fighting. Or the managers straight up cutting deals with some (a whistleblower caused a kerfuffle at ours cause they were basically reserving all the bicycles for one guy that would buy them en made to ship to somewhere. My personal favourite was one dude who’d try and find any current electronic that was in vaguely good cosmetic shape, look it up on Walmarts website, then he’d buy the 7 dollar scaled AF coffeemaker, buy the new one from Walmart. Return the crap one in the box, then either keep or sell the coffeemaker, and sell the gift card once he got the return credit balance up to like 200.

For 1 day I worked in my Bible Colleges recruitment center making cold calls to try and recruit students... they obtained these phone lists from bible camps but the list was like 10 years old so everyone I'm calling either moved on or are adults who went to a normal college already. Only 2 people out of 50 actually talked to me fore more than 2 seconds. Most just hung-up immediately, or they yelled at me about how I got their phone number and then hung up. I think I talked to two actual people. One who seemed to be in the middle of watching some porn and someone who was high as fk. Neither wanted to attend this bible college. Big shock. I quit after that 4 hour shift.
