Mountain lab was originally crated to have a volcano/mad scientist aesthetic, but the current janitor at volvo accidently deleted the assets. Valve used this opportunity as a way for the community to finish the map for them, however they would be not be allowed to changed bounding boxes. Due to this, these buildings were litterally never going to be usage parts of the map because it was against the challenge. Mad Mannor was the other winner 'contest".
I remember hearing about this. Forgot the video I watched. But it would be cool to see them do this again. Just not deleting them on accident. Or maybe an actual mad scientist styled map. Could be cool.
Seeing his first video about it inspired me to do it for myself. In my case (this isn’t shown in the video), I actually went through each map and properly filled in the missing textures as well as added health/ammo crates where it felt appropriate.
The clip of the scout running on the machines when LED said "by but never got to experience." I swear i have seen those textures somewhere else that is out of Team fortress 2.
i feel like mann up mode would be 500% more popular if it had normal map mixed in, reminds me of the good days of battle field 3 were RUSH was the king and the only mode that let you explore the final 20% of the map
a lot of good map design includes not having a billion flank routes that red team has to constantly hold. i'd say a good way to include these spots is to have them accessible for scenic purposes but have the other end inaccessible or very very hard to parkour to at least.
I think its funny that you picked a lot of the same maps that great blue did when he deleted boundaries I guess they're just really appealing to open up
