Ann Cavoukian was hired by Sidwalk Labs to help embed privacy into the design of Sidewalk Labs' proposed 'smart city' in Toronto. The former privacy commissioner of Ontario warns that we need to act to prevent projects like these from becoming 'smart cities of surveillance.'

I don't think the type of system is the problem as all countries face this problem. There needs to be an international treaty on internet privacy

If the government has access to the data it would be even worse than corporations because they can punish us for going to the "wrong" places and associating with the "wrong" people. I don't care if corporations have my data because they can't do anything to me. The government is far more dangerous.

Sorry but I think there is alot of good that comes from public surveillance. And can't see what would be possibly wrong. I mean who cares if cameras watch uou go fir coffee or any other legal thing us law abiding people do. Seems like only shady people should fear surveillance. I am so for more clear surveillance of all public. I also believe that the micro chips our bank cards would serve us better if it was implanted sub dermally. Just saying.

Like I said only shady people care if cameras are everywhere but private homes. I guess some folks don't understand the value video surveillance has had on solving and deterring many horrific acts. Murders kidnappings assaults thefts robberys all have proven the need for closer scrutiny of the people. I bet some of you are against Nanny cams. Many serious criminals have been caught by the limited amount of surveillance we have to date. Don't do shameful acts and you have nothing to fear.

@@terryblais9128 what about when your government rules that you are a terrorist because you don’t agree with their policies, agenda or actions. They now track you and arrest you within the hour simply for putting up a post “inciting anger” towards the government. What about when the government decides you are a “threat to national security” because you don’t conform to the insanity of their regime and openly speak your mind about it. The problems is you lack the intuition to think about the possibility that these systems designed to “protect us” might actually be designed to control us. Call it conspiracy all you want but take a look around the world, look at canada, look at Australia, look at US, look at UK and if the tyranny of these countries don’t scare you yet look at China, China is a prime example of what this technology would be used for. It’s all about connecting infrastructures and technologies to implement a social credit system or something similar. Look into ESGs CBDCs UBIs SGDs etc. I have no intention of “doing bad things” but I wouldn’t trust my government for a single second and be naive enough to believe they have our best interests at heart when they’re trying to implement systems like this all so rapidly coincidentally within times of turmoil and suffering due to policies and actions that exacerbate the deliberate downfall of our economies and lead to the turmoil and suffering in the first place. I could be wrong too but hey I’d rather be skeptical and wrong verse naive and wrong.

Cell phone can be put in a faraday phone case, thrown away, left at home. The biggest atrocities ever committed were by government/big corporations and you think it's a good idea to give that much power, influence, and information to them? Even after seeing the corruption and abuses that occurred during covid. We need less government not more.

@wreckzc
@wreckzc 3 года назад
@@rhijulbec1 I'm guessing most Canadians don't have Facebook and use social media then. It's ignorant to think it's not already the case. For example, if a person has Facebook, the phone company has no control over what data Facebook collects on you. Smart Cities isn't responsible to govern 3rd parties, that's the governments'. That's like saying rogers is responsible for all privacy through its network.
@rhijulbec1
@rhijulbec1 3 года назад
@@wreckzc I see your point~I think. If you could clarify some of it. I think you're saying the gov't can't control the big companies? I promise I'm not being snotty or critical. I'm genuinely interested. I'd really appreciate if you'd clarify because I'm not really sure what you're pointing out. Thanks.
