I like that Ego and get one myself this season as soon as my new lawn grows. I Think they are well build. My old but gold Sabo is 29 years old but still works great. Aluminium deck, B&S Quantum engine. Just a regular Service every year and clean it after mowing. The oldest mower I have is from 1974, also runs brilliant. So as you say: As long as you take a bit of care to your machines they would last a long time, even sometimes more than a lifetime.

My Honda mower was built in 1993. Plastic deck which is in places cracked from rocks. Still runs and cuts fine despite being neglected. I will replace with an Ego in due course for the benefits of less noise and no fuelling issues.

I have a 2017 model and I love it, battery went bad after 7 years but I got a new one and that it works cuts like a champ, I then got the fully carbon weed trimmer solid trimmer and I got a blower all work great, I am now looking at either the zero turn or the new tractor mower…I am an ego fan.

I'm still running a 2017 Ego mower and it does the job as good as ever. I dislike the plastic deck and it's showing its age, but the thing still cuts well. I have not noticed any battery degradation which seems crazy. I plan on running it for a few more years and will probably replace it with one of the newer ones with an aluminum deck.

Ego steel deck, in my humble opinion, is the only decent mower (until the alloy deck is available) Ego makes … the main reason is the fact it has an unloaded RPM of over 3,000! The 3,000 RPM is close enough to the commercial mowers, allowing for a cleaner cut and you can walk faster … time is money after all. Mine is over 6 years old and it’s done approximately 10,000 KLMs of mowing according to my Garmin watch, of thick Aussie Buffalo grass. Problems: First battery The battery it came with failed after 3 months, losing its energy density to around 15mins runtime .. fortunately EGO replaced it, otherwise that could have been years of fuel for an ICE mower. Second battery: Surprisingly, it lasted its warranty period, but it’s lost 50% of its energy storage by this stage so you will be carting around dead weight. I still use it today as a backup battery. Interestingly, after the warranty period ran out I worked the battery hard, it would come straight out of the mower and into the fast charger and back in numerous times … this is where IMHO Ego is superior with its battery management and cooling. Deck: It’s not a quality steel as it rusts too easily. However, I clean it regularly and spray it with nontoxic Inox lanolin and that works very well. Handles: I don’t use the collapsible handle, I just fold it, but the pathetic plastic clips break within months, so I bolted it solid … your welcome Ego I saved you a warranty claim! Grass Chute: The engineering calculation was not done correctly for capacity. With Buffalo grass in summer, the Chute will clog up all the time … to prove the calculation is wrong and it’s not just too long grass, you can cut it at full height and it clogs, and it still clogs on the next level down and on the next run and so on. This makes it very time consuming on a commercial job when time is money and the client has let the grass grow. Durability: Where the plastic front chassis holds the wheels and clamps onto the deck, it’s becoming very loose and it looks difficult to modify to repair, if at all. Electronics: Starting to fail, so it won’t start up some times and you either have to spin the blades and quickly stand clear and hit the start button … sometimes simply pulling the battery out and back in will work. The cost to fix this is not worth it. My humble conclusion: First of all I will never go back to Gas. Having seen one major commercial brand have a battery fire and losing all his equipment and truck and hearing similar issues, I believe EGO has got their batteries and battery management correct. I love the convenience, low vibration and no pollution at the user end … let’s not talk about how batteries are made, or their short lifespan and lack of net-zero recycling. I love not having to fuel them up or having to do oil changes and spark plugs … but don’t be fooled they are not maintenance free and the cost is massive when batteries are required, or it some electrical item fails it’s extremely expensive. Commercial: Can you run a commercial business on electric … absolutely and it will be better for your health not breathing in all that crap - remembering that ICE lawn equipment doesn’t run any pollution mitigation devices … however, your startup costs are going to be x3 to x4 times more because not only is the work device way more expensive, you will need to have enough batteries on hand to get you through the day because there’s X40 times the energy density in fuel. You will also have to account for future battery replacement so overall running costs are more expensive. Weight can also be an issue because of energy density. An example of this would be the new EGO alloy deck mower, to get similar commercial run times to ICE it will come with two 12 amp hour batteries, the mower is already 47kgs and if you add the batteries you will be lifting almost 60kgs in and out of your vehicle compared to say an equivalent Toro at under 50kgs … and remember, unlike fuel the batteries remain that weight. You can mitigate weight on hand held equipment using a backpack (you do sweat) or use a smaller battery, but runtimes are much shorter compared to ICE. But as I’ve mentioned above, I’m happy overall with EGO and I will never go back to ICE … I’m aware of the extra costs, obviously not happy about that, but they are much nicer to use from a health and vibration point of view. Hope that helps someone out there. Cheers

Still running my Toro Super Recycler that I bought new in 2002. I’ve been debating battery. Every year I go through the maintenance and think, next year I’ll go with an Ego. 😂 The aluminum deck version is very enticing, but sounds like the self propelled makes a loud whine. Maybe next version.

I actually respect your opinion! So quick question, have you used any Hyundai equipment? The reason I ask is that I need a new brushcutter, due to ill health, not sure how much longer I can continue to work. The price of my favourite tools, Husqvarna and Stihl, are extremely high. I know they are top quality, but if they live longer than me, are they worth the investment? So, basically, is a Hyundia worth the money???
@MachineryNation
@MachineryNation 5 месяцев назад
Thanks mate. I would say Hyundai products have their place in the market if you want something cheap and cheerful, but don’t expect to set the world of fire or be able to repair is it goes wrong. Their parts back has been shocking in the past, although this may have got better (It couldn’t of gotten any worse) my go to brands for budget machines with parts availability would be either Mitox or Cobra. Hope this helps.

Great video as always…the only issue with mower longevity, other then what you said, in this case, is the battery life. If the manufacturer discontinues batteries, such as Milwaukee did with their last generation NICD powered tools or some other issue, that could be problematic. Plus each battery purchase, when the battery ultimately dies, would be comparable to buying a new mower. I have a Milwaukee mower and if you break down the individual components such as two 12ah batteries, dual bay quick charger AND the mower, the mower cost is around $500 US approximately…which is comparable to one of the high amp hour battery or batteries..I still love it however!..Paul

If they would make their mowers in the US or Europe I'd consider buying, but Made in China = fail. Sorry but no reason to keep making mowers there, plenty of friendly countries to do business with. Yes i have an Ego blower and it is decent, the turbo button occasionally sticks and battery charger decides to not charge randomly. I much prefer my Makita and Hayter tools, far better build quality and simple warranty terms.

I just picked up one of these for a very good price, partially due to a "bad" battery 7.5. After scouring forums, etc. I dropped the battery on the ground a few times (didn't help), and then stuck it in the freezer overnight. It seemed to work after that. Did a full discharge running my blower on low (took hours), charged it up, and it seems to be good! The mower was well taken care of and still works great.
@brudel001

What were the symptoms of your bad battery? I have issues with my battery too where it randomly stops working and sometimes unplugging and plugging in multiple times helps but overall its super frustrating. You say you put it in the freezer for overnight - do you mean in fridge or literally in freezer with minus temps? Did you fist discharge it or it doesn't matter? Thanks.
@1empyre1life
@1empyre1life 2 месяца назад
@@brudel001 I put it into the freezer, then let it warm back up. It works on low amp situations but will blink red (if I remember correctly) if too much power is required. I ran the leaf blower on low until it died after (I think) the freezer.

@tlabus
@tlabus 2 месяца назад
Nothing wrong wit single blade, but double blade is NOT a gimmick, it is useful depending on how you mow. If you always bag, there is no real point of getting a double blade. But if you mulch the grass, double blade is great. It basically can cut the already cut blades before they fall to the ground... and finer cuts look nicer, fall to the bottom of the grass easier, and I think it may speed up the degrading process. (Last part I'm not so sure).
