Thanks for reviewing Dora's food! With supply chain issues I haven't been able to affordably get pre-made recipes for her that she'll eat (she would rather starve than eat plants), and she was quickly becoming tired of the ones I had been feeding her. I was trying to make my own for her to giver her some variety, but certainly wasn't confident enough to feed her only homemade meals. This is super helpful, and I too hope this becomes a series!

I am a relative beginner with raw food feeding so I learned definitely a lot. I discovered that there is a need of muscular organs which I never gave my dog, I gave only muscle meat. Also when it comes to secreting organs I always buy a premade mix, but I enjoyed seeing it broken down to individual organs by you. Really useful!

I just want to say I've been on a binge of your videos and I think you are one of the most welcoming people I've come across regarding raw diet/general pet care. I think others often think that just because people don't do certain things for their pets (though they really should!) it's because they want to abuse the animal. It's really just ignorance and not understanding why certain care steps/etc are important. Thank you so much for explaining everything so in depth! Looking forward to trying to transition my cat to a raw diet soon~!

This video was very helpful. I have been struggling on making a set meal for my ferret sense I am unable to get him on a raw diet right now the only animal I have on a raw diet is my hedgehog. I feed my ferret Feline Natural Grain-Free Freeze Dried Cat Food, and sometimes Zewi peak,freeze dried liver and what ever freeze dried meats I can get my hands on. And when I can fresh organs for soup such as heart and liver and I boil them so they don’t lose all of their priorities. I want to add in vitamin E, omega, and Taurine.He’s getting up there with age and I don’t want the first thing to worry about is diet if anything happens. I feel like a failure because I was doing much better with all of there diets a year ago. Please anything information will help.

Its great :) do you also have some advices for us who have many pets? I have 1 dog and 3 cats, together they have 35 kilos, raw food making takes hours and its still not perfect, so I feed half raw, half kibble to maintain nutrion profile

My dogs meal does not compare because right now she’s on cable. BUT! I am going to switch to raw it’s just hard moneywise because I am still living with my parents and I’m only 16 but in a few weeks I am going to go around with Dad and go to grocery stores and any other meat stores just got to save up money

So my dogs resting energy requirement is 835 and his energy needed is a total of 1,420 cal. That seems like a lot, did I do math wrong?

I think I’m too new to all of this to try any of the things in these meals just yet, though I appreciate seeing the diet of the Maltese mix since I also have a Maltese. While I’m here, does anyone in the comments know if it’s alright to feed a mix of cooked food, kibble, and raw? He gets kibble with cooked food as a topper, but there are some raw foods I can try him on but I’m unsure if mixing is okay. I want to transition away from kibble (I think the one I use is pretty good as far as kibble goes) but I stuck to it for so long because my dog has stomach issues which were revealed when I tried to switch him a few years ago, which scared me away from switching. My vet is really unhelpful, they just say chicken and plain rice since he’s had issues, even though his issues are pretty mild and not due to allergies but when he eats food that’s “too rich”.
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey 2 года назад
It's totally fine to mix as long as your dog does well on a mixed diet. You also want to make sure the cooked and raw diets are balanced (if they exceed 20% of the total daily intake)

Will you make a video about balancing calcium to phosphorus ratios using calcium carbonate? My dog swallows all bones even big bones when he bites them down into small pieces.

I'd use bonemeal powder over calcium carbonate unless your dog needs a low phosphorus diet!

I'd love to see a video covering the nutrient ratios you talked about in this video. I had no idea about them aside from the calcium:phosphorous ratio, and I'm new to raw feeding and it's making me a bit nervous! It's also one of the first times I've heard about LA and ALA, as I've never seen them discussed when balancing meals. There's always so much to learn! I have to echo others in saying it would be great to see more videos like this as well. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I think you were putting way too much emphasis on a daily balanced meal. It's almost impossible and totally impractical to try to make every single meal that you feed your animals to be balanced. It's not necessary at all. Balanced overtime. Balanced over the week or over a month. Not daily. I think this just stresses people out, hinders their confidence, and inevitably causes them to stop feeding Raw because it is just too complicated. Emphasizing variety and balance over time is much more practical in my opinion.

This makes it look really hard to properly make meals that meet every nutritional requirement. I don't have own pets now since I still live with my parents (but we have a family cat) but it's really interesting to learn about raw diet. I might try it out when I get cats, but I'm not sure if I can actually do it and if I'm willing to put that much time into researching how to do it properly and prepping the meals

Great video as always! I have one question: looking at the ratio between nutrients that you showed in this video (you never mentioned it in other videos iirc), I feel that it can get too specific in terms of nutrient tracking, I mean, even for us humans we never care about the details of how much nutrients we're getting per meal. So for animals, is there some leeway when we miss tiny details like that? Thank you!

Is it possible on your next video to maybe leave some links to the supplemental products like the kelp and vitamin E oil that are safe for dogs? Or maybe a guide on how to tell for yourself if they are safe for pets or not? Love these guides though and you’re the reason I have my 2 dogs on raw balanced diets!

My LA:ALA ratio was also 8:1 at first, removed a lot of the excess plant matter, added those nutrients back from meat sources, changed up to some fattier meats and got it up to 11.5:1 Can't seem to go higher. 😂 Advice?

Always giving us great tips and advice! Thank you for the time you take to share the good stuff with us. You’re a blessing! I’ve noticed my cats are lacking some good nutrients. Because of my schedule I feed all 6 of them: raw food 3 times a week, wet pate 3 times a week and kibble 1 time a week. Their raw food days will include: • Ground Chicken • Beef Cubes • Chicken Gizzard • Chicken Heart • Chicken Liver or Beef Liver (depends on which is available on the day I buy the fresh raw foods) • Chicken Neck So definitely it’s lacking Kemp, Vitamin E oil etc. Our local supermarkets don’t have variety in animal’s organs and I still haven’t gotten around to speaking with a butcher if I can source some other organs.

Has anyone had any experience using green tripe powder? Whole tripe is super hard for me to source. Just unsure on how to gage how much powder to use/how to factor it into the formulator. Also does anyone add prebiotic powders to there meals? My boy gets an upset tummy every few months so thought some prebiotics might help?

I was hoping to see more user submitted photos/videos but the info was helpful. i am feeling doubtful that every owner has the skills and tools and patience to figure out the nutrient ratios. i feel like this is a scenario where at home bloodwork would be useful. is there anything to feed with pork liver to make the copper bioavailable?
@SpookyBudgets
@SpookyBudgets 2 года назад
Amazing vid! Is there anywhere we can easily access info regarding the proper ratios ex: la : Ala? I love being able to calculate this ratios with your formulator but I am not sure if the ratios are where they should be my for my pup
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey 2 года назад
You basically just calculate it yourself using your pet's recommended nutrient intake, but I really should put them on my cheat sheet for easy reference! For example if my dog needed 1.51 g of LA and 0.06 g of ALA, I would divide LA by ALA which equals 25.2. So the ratio should be about 25:1, but again it doesn't have to be perfect all the time. That's what balancing over time is for!

Hi there Miss! I’ve been watching like all yo videos aha even went back to watch a lot of them and seen how you changed and progressed which I loved ! But my pomsky pup and I started raw right away ! After doing like 7 months of research! He’s taken well to it! Didn’t need to grind anything up! But he’s about to be 9 weeks old and I was just wondering when do I start feeding him duck wings and chicken necks ? 4 months ? Cause rn he’s just having chicken wings as his meaty bone ! And I cut it in half !
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey 2 года назад
Depends on how big your pomsky is at those ages! I'd think they should be fine though. Some other great meaty bones that are small are quail bones and cornish hen bones. You can find both of these at the regular grocery store usually! At least the cornish hen.

hi! how do you calculate the nutrients in the meal? also, how about taurine? i have heard that a grain free diet leads to cancer in golden retrievers. i want to get my golden puppy started on a raw diet but it's so intimidating 🥲
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey 2 года назад
Aw I understand. It is probably best to start out with a balanced raw food that you don't have to worry about making sure it's complete! However I do have a free cheatsheet that goes over how to do that! Just go to pawsofprey.com and click on the dog :) taurine is calculated the same way. Dogs actually can synthesize taurine in their body and don't necessarily need it in their diet, but if there's something in the diet that's inhibiting the body from absorbing taurine, that's when there's problems. Grain free foods replace grains with legumes. Legumes have something called antinutrients in them that have been linked to inhibiting nutrients from being absorbed (in this case, taurine). There is so much misinformation about diets that don't include grains. It's not the lack of grains harming dogs (grains are biologically NOT essential for them) it's the inclusion of other ingredients that inhibit the body from absorbing essential nutrients!
@gwennie520
@gwennie520 2 года назад
@@PawsofPrey ah i see, thank you so much for the reply! i was confused over how dogs apparently needed grain so im so glad u enlightened me on this i'll probably start with prepacked raw food for her because her weight is increasing rapidly (we got her at ~2.5mth @ around 6kg and rn shes 5.5mths and 17kg!) and thus begins the next challenge of finding the best non-overpriced BALANCED prepacked raw food 🥲 also, do you mind sharing how you knew the nutrient profile of the meals shown in this video? do you have some sort of calculator or are you able to just eyeball it after years of experience? thank you!! 🙏🏻
@PawsofPrey
@PawsofPrey 2 года назад
@@gwennie520 Congrats on your new pup! The cheatsheet shows some info on how to calculate, but I also have a meal formulating tool as well, which is half off when you get the cheat sheet. I have a video explaining how to use it, but you also need some basic knowledge on how to build a meal, too. I have a sample meal in there that shows you what foods can help balance a meal, but just playing around with it and adding foods can help you learn as well. Again, the cheat sheet will help too!
