I got a really good deal from my grandmother after my grandfather passed back in 2018. Bought a 2007 4Runner sport 4wd v8. Got it for $8000 and it had 110k miles at the time. Nothing wrong with it, she was going to sell it to another random guy for $16000 but I swooped in and bought it to keep it in the family. It now has 170k miles and hasn’t had a single problem since other than having to replace the battery.

Hey about that 100,000 mile odometer reading on a 4 Runner. We owned a 2nd Gen 1992 SR5 4Runner and we honestly feel like the breaking in period for that 4Runner was when we cracked 200k. The engine got quieter and mpg went up by 1 mile per gallon. You can get the same effect by trying to drive over 200 miles in a day. Stop and listen to the idle after a long trip it sounds like its thanking you for "taking it out for a walk". It's not even hot for goodness sakes. Hey Big Jake about the lighting on your camera if you ideally position your lighting to be behind the camera you'll get great pictures. So yeah photographers & videographers rearrange their subjects so that the light is behind the camera. And dude the rear window? "fist bump" I hear you. There isn't another vehicle out there with a rear window that goes down. Well unless its a Tundra.

I bought a 2004 SR5 4x4 in 2007 with 50,000 miles on it. It's now 16 years old and only has 110,000 miles on it. I've only had to do basic maintenance, and the catalytic converters. My 4runner was assembled in Japan where quality is a bit higher than Toyota's assembled in the states. 4x4 is great and I've never gotten stuck on the Galveston beaches. I got hit by a red light runner and got a new hood, fender, radiator and bumper, so what rock chips were on the hood are gone and looks brand new. I have the 4.0 V6 and it has plenty of power. I have read many times that the difference between the V6 and V8 is very minuscule. My 16 year old truck still looks and feels brand new. I absolutely love my 4runner, and will drive it till the wheels fall off.

04' 4Runner, bought it at 176k miles for 7,000 out the door, one owner with clean report and all services at Toyota dealership, it's served my for a year now, I'm 8k miles away from 200k miles, I love my truck, it had some issues and I had to change tires, but it got me through north blizzards this winter. I purchased one of those lower priced V8 4runners with close to 200k and the truck runs beautifully. LOL! Not the most cosmetically appealing but it's a trade off since I also have a newer Subaru to drive as well. But yes, they're great running vehicles. I'm well over 210k now and it still runs great! Not to mention I think I found a gem with it being only 2 owners, who are brothers, and have every single service record from one Toyota dealership that matched the Carfax I pulled on it.

I watched this video again. My 2006 V-8 gets 19.5 mpg in the city and as much as 28.0!!!!! mpg on the highway if I keep the speed to about 60. The owners manual calls for premium fuel, but I can use regular unleaded with absolutely no pinging I have owned dozens of cars, both personal and fleet, and this is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. I will never get rid of this thing, so don't ask 😎. Only 122K on this beauty, which is Navy Blue and the paint job looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. All the mechanics at the shop just drool over this thing, as they do not make the V-8 anymore. New cars are just junk.

Just sealed the deal on a 1 owner 08 grey Limited V-6 4X4 with only 72K mi. Clean and good records. I pick it up in 2 days and cant wait. Dealer wanted 18.5K and I talked them down to 16K. Not crazy about leather interior either but the truck has the lowest miles of any 4Runner I've seen. I had the same experience of not moving quick enough on the sale as these trucks typically get sold in 24hours of being listed. Most of these 4Runners here in Colorado have an average of 130k-150K mi on them at this point. Wish it was a V-8 but the V-6 seems to have plenty of get up.

lol , the window is the best quirk on the 4runner , not just that you can remotly roll it down but the fact that you can roll it down at all ! for loading stuff or to check on your cargo before you open the hatch to avoid all your stuff to falling to the ground , and also there is no need for the remote to be able to roll up the window , just use the dash control when you are inside the truck , actually more convinant that way , no need to wait just climb inside and do it when you are already rolling ! 👍🏼

I had an 05 Sport V6 for 10 years from 2007 to 2017 and it was a SOLID truck with my only gripe being the transfer case going bad on the part time 4WD system. Reading through the 4Runner forums it was a known issue on the 4th gen and fairly costly to service at the dealership running upwards of $4500 (dealership estimate high end) and the truck being in the shop for about a week. Every fall for 6 of those 10 years I would procrastinate by hoping and praying it wouldn’t be a bad winter but it mostly was, lol. Luckily I learned how to drive in the snow in a rwd car when I was younger, but I had that truck for the longest time out of all the cars I’ve owned and sometimes regret trading it in for a 2014 Acura MDX.

Mark Limjoco nice! Turns out the one I was looking at had HUGE rust rot on the back above the window, so I’m now looking at an 04 v6 sr5 with only 64,000 miles for only 10k.. reason being it’s so low on price is the 4lo doesn’t engage it seized up from lack of use so I have a feeling I might be able to wiggle it unstuck eventually otherwise I’d never use 4lo anyways haha

The V8 tends to be cheaper then the 6 where I am. I got my 08 v6 white, urban runner package for a decent price. And I picked it a few days after it was posted. Has some small cosmetic issues but nothing mechanical other then a sticking front caliper that was easily replaced. The V8 is a bullet proof engine as long as you do change the timing belts. Reason I went v6 was that it had a chain and the v6 had the selectable 4x4 or 2x4, and I would see a mpg gain for how often I'm in traffic. But 4runners while always be a solid choice.
@BigJake

Ruthless Goat It’s really not a big job if you are handy. But if not, yeah the shop labor will be a bit expensive. As you mentioned, not a common problem with these. The timing belt, water pump and pulleys are what one should concentrate on every 90k. Alternators also seem to fail but I believe that has more to do with battery quality and neglect. AWD systems are different depending the car maker . Best AWD is Subaru. 4wd is not the same as AWD . But buy a Toyota , Tacoma's are awesome Land cruisers are awesome, RAV4 is a damn good vehicle, camery is great

Nice man. Still have a '99 3rd gen. Looking at a similar runner to yours with V8 as I'd like to tow a smaller enclosed trailer. Considering an F150 but so hard to beat that Toyota reliability and I really like the 4runner platform. Enjoy many miles and yrs if you choose... they just keep on rollin'.

Nice video! Also, mount that front plate when you can. I’ve seen that become a decapitation danger in bad enough accidents

Thank you! And sound advice. I actually sold her a while back (tear) but probably wouldn't have a front plate sitting there loose again!

Only downside to the v8 other than mpg is that the v8 has a timing belt. Timing belt or timing chain...chain all day.

Great first review man! I love your 4Runner! I actually just bought a 2007 SR5 4X4 natural white 115,000 miles. Thing is literally brand new in terms of interior and drive quality. I have driven newer cars that do not compare. I am always happy to get back in my rig. I came from a 96 Tacoma with the crappy "backseat". so stoked with all the interior room!!

I used to think it was a terrible thing to say but I have come around to respect people who know themselves well enough to make that decision. It would be horrible if he were to bring children into this world who he might not do a good job at raising.
