Definitely would like to see more London reviews. My Great Aunt lived in London in the 1940s and I went to school on the outskirts. So I have an affinity with the area.
Wow,Greeno, that's just fabulous value. My local gastro pub would charge £35 for that easily. Their usual flank steak meal is only 4 strips and they charge £24. That's the best I've ever seen❤
Clear and Crisp review of the restaurant. Great video once again by Greeno. 14£ for the steak is absolute value. And also the price is same all through out UK, no extra charges for locations in London (including areas like Covent Garden).
@@ludwigwittgenstein2422 in Central London? I'd wager the only places selling steak and chips cheaper would be a Wetherspoons or similar - and it wouldn't be that quality!
Those little welcoming touches help . To some people that might seem patronising but no its a welcoming pack, like you get in a good hotel ,bottle of wine or flowers etc for a couple ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Greeno, one of favourite lunch place when I do consultations in the Kensington area. I always have bernaise sauce and beef dripping chips together with my steak. I am there at least once a month and it really worth going back to over and over again. Soon reaching 10K subs, mate, great news!!😊
Greeno, from your expression, it looked like you were in heaven mate!! 😃 And oh my goodness, the fact that they also gave you a free desert, makes the meal a steal, considering that you're were in the middle of London!!
That all looked pretty amazing and all for a great price too! 😮the micro greens with the salad was a fantastic addition not often seen too, great nutrition and a really nice touch
Hi Greeno. Back again! I am certain Gary did attend a FLAT IRON restaurant a little while back as I remember him holding up a mini meat cleaver. Excellent report mate, and love that West Country accent. Many thanks for these excellent reports, and thank you for the responses to my comments. You and Gary are one of a few who give me the courtesy of a reply. Cheers my friend and I shall see you again summarising "RIP OFF RAMSAYS" hamburger. Cheers!
Well hello again! I'll have to dig out his review and see if he concurred with me!! I thought I had lost my accent having left Dorset as a teenager, but maybe it's crept back in a touch having loved back down there the last dozen years or so 🤣
I don’t think I’ve enjoyed watching someone else eat quite like I did with this video. Thank you for sharing, Greeno! Have loved your London miniseries! Hope you have safe travels home and an amazing weekend!
Now that is what I call a decent meal. Yum. M and S did a Bavette cut for a little while. Disappointed that they no longer do because it is such a tasty cut. I have eaten a good meal tonight but I am watching this at 9.00 p.m. and I just want to devour what I am looking at. Impressed. 🥗🍟🥩
@@GreenoEats Just looked online. There is one in Manchester that opened in July. The ratings and comments are positive. I did go to Hawksmoor once. That was excellent too. They served bone marrow with good bread as a side. Heavenly. However it was a costly experience but worth it. However I think £25 for that meal is even more worth it. The ice cream looked divine.Burnt butter flavour sounds just YUM!🍦
Hi Greeno, I remember Gary's review of this restaurant quite a few months ago... He said it was very good & great value too. Your steak looked beautiful. I like a Bearnaise sauce as well, but my absolute favourite is peppercorn. Beef dripping fries are the best. Glad you really enjoyed it! Take care. 😊
Wonderful! As you say, a great find. Nice to be able to enjoy a meal in central London without having to re mortgage to pay for it. What I really liked was the review of the salad. I would really like a food reviewer to have a salad mains, no one ever seems to do them and especially in summer not everyone wants food you can just as easily eat in winter.
You can tell a lot about a restaurant by their side salad I think. If it's just thrown together with no thought then you wonder how the rest of the menu is constructed.
hi greeno that looks amazing from the steak to the salad chips and sauces ,you probably know but a flat iron is a cut of steak near the shoulder and blade bone almost chuck steak, its flavour can be amazing but has to be rare no more than medium rare or it can get chewy, really great review again thanks my mouth was watering i must admit,🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 thanks .
Great video, and amazing value that was. To think the other day I stayed at a hotel with a Marco's in house. The steak was nearly £30. I took a punt for a treat and it was rubbish, with way too much salt. So your video shows you do not have to pay the high prices for celeb places. Great stuff. Mark.
That looked delicious, but I kept worrying that as the steak was so rare that it was stone cold by the time you ate it. I guess the majority of food reviewers on RU-vid get used to eating cold food ! Great vlog Greeno
It's been a great series, thanks and that's why your channel is good variety, people watching awesome. Great variation of food and a good knowledge of food, rare on other channels 😂😂😂😂
I agree, Flatiron is great value, my wife and I really enjoyed it. For my anniversary, I’m having Blacklock with my wife. A tad more expensive, and I just hope it’s worth it. Before you leave London, you must try Black Bear Burger👌
Blacklock is a place I would like to visit. I am already back out of London, but plan to visit again in the autumn, so maybe Black Bear Burger will be on the list !! Thanks for the tip :-)
Top video Greeno! Wow ….. where were you again?? 🤔 I think that was cracking value for money especially regarding where you were. Enjoyed that one pal. All the best ….Smithy
@GreenoEats Oh dear that's shot up😂😂😂,not been to Paris since 2002 lol. I think there was a steakhouse chain back in the day called Gerrads had a branch up here in Manchester was around £15 then, unfortunately as happens up here big ambitious oh Manchester is the new London it isn't hence so many fail. Here up north lol its a place to be seen, then next one opens up etc people go there. Its tough everyone competing for a piece of a ever shrinking pie. Thats why you have to see out hidden gems. Great review btw awesome value for money
A side salad properly prepared can be a meal in its own. Quite often it's just a bit of lettuce tomato's, cucumber and that's it. Waste of time . Should have beautiful vinaigrettes which turns it into another level.. flat iron looks good. Not cheap to me, I would not be prepared to pay that. £15: the lot is me. Why I like spoons but it's limited and enough. On the other hand. it sounds good value for the quality.. perhaps I will eat my own words. I agree a good steak is an incredible enjoyment. Thanks for video
Glad you enjoyed it Kenneth. I also think the quality was amazing for the price point, although I do understand that a £25 meal is not in everyone's budget :-)
So glad that you ended with such a great meal. It looked so good. Love my steak like that used to cook the hell out of steak but learned bit by bit the less cooked the nicer the meat xxx enjoy your day
I enjoy all you videos, Greeno no matter where in the world you are. It will be even better to see you get another 290 subscribers - all well deserved too. xx
@@NikkisNosh you’ll get there… it’s taken over 200 videos and a couple of lucky breaks to get the the point I am at now, hopefully will continue to grow from here for both of us 🙂
Greeno, from my youth the sight of Ann Margaret in a bath of baked beans, has been a source of happy memories. Sadly, for me. Now it's Greeno in a tub of Bearnaise, with a brace of flat iron steaks & a baguette ( with or without butter 🤔🤔) plus a bucket of fries(optional) My thoughts for what they are worth. Simple ingredients, cooked well. Winner every time. Good location, professional but friendly staff. Not much more needed, for any one to feel. Satisfaction guaranteed OK maybe a 🍺 just to be sociable. A super video informative and entertaining. Good health, luck and safe travels in the future. Allan&Family
Ha ha - that's the stuff of nightmares for most people I reckon - hope it doesn't frive you to insomnia ! Glad you enjoyed the video, and thought that the food, location and service looked good :-)
Every bit of that looks delicious! I love my steak rare too. Salad everything top dollar. I enjoy all of your videos wherever you are. Thanks for all your hard work.❤
Thanks for the kind words. That steak was amazing - but what i really loved was the thought put into everything, and for such a reasonable price. Well worth a visit !
HI Greeno,Another great video of your time in London so looking forward to your next destination. I cannot believe how cheap that was Steak looked great but for me I like mine medium and what a lovely different salad. Thanks for sharing great value.
Greeno, I don't know if you remember a restaurant in Westbourne called the Petite Parisian? It's been gone many years now, but on their steak menu was a how do you like your steak? Just 3 options, Rare, Medium or Ruined, the chef refused to do the third one, lol! That looked just the way I like it, a good veterinarian could bring it back to life! Your first 5 out 5 I beleive, since you've been scoring, well deserved, when steak melts like butter on the tongue, you know you're at the right place! 10,000 here you come!
I don't remember tht restaurant, but I like the sound of the chef !! This place deserves a 5/5 all day long. Great food, great service and a bill that doesn't make you want to weep !!
A lot of people tend to blow off a side salad. I can't imagine going out and not getting one. Quite often I would just order the meat or seafood dish, ask them to leave out all the other stuff and have a side salad and a fresh roll.
Problem is in the UK the saide dalad is often an afterthought for the restaurant too. You'll get lettuce, tomato, cucumber, some raw onion, maybe some peppers and a dressing if you're lucky. This place had it properly thought out. For a light lunch I could easily forego the fries here and just have the steak and salad.
It amazes me the personal things people notice when they watch RU-vid creators.Great looking meal, and so reasonable, love bearnaise sauce, love anise flavored anything, especially star anise.Fancy salads are big in American restaurants, all sorts of combinations,a lot of people eat them as dinner, often with a piece of chicken, salmon,or sliced steak.Southwest style salad, with blackened salmon, was my late night dinner on my way home from work.😊
A good salad is a thing of beauty, when the freshest ingredients are combined with thought as to texture and flavour combinations. I had a week in Southern California a few years back, and some of the salads I had there I found exceptional, but to the locals they were just what was expected 🙂
Wow that looked really good especially with a decent salad that someone has given some thought into creating. Not sure about the knife cleaver looked a bit lethal. I would give it a five too.
I wanted to visit the Covent Garden one as it looked lovely online, alas it was just far too busy for me to get in so I had to dart down the road instead!!
Hi Greeno, new to the channel and really enjoying it! Just subbed! Even as a master butcher that steak was underdone for me, im more of a medium rare guy, well impressed with what you had though.great price point and everything looked lush! Great job!👍👏👏👏♥️
Welcome to the channel ! Glad you like what you've seen so far. As a master butcher, what cut of steak do you think is best, and what is most underated ?
@@GreenoEats I'm a big fan of a Ribeye steak! Same price roughly as sirloin but that eye of fat and more marbling through it for more flavour and the steak is more succulent. Also we find that Rump steak is really underrated, often I advise customers that want a steak on a budget to try it. Aged for 21 days, thickly cut and cooked no more than medium rare and you have a really flavoursome, quite tender, good value steak! Money no object, I always plump for an 18oz T-Bone, served medium rare, triple cooked chips, bearnaise sauce and lettuce wedges with a honey mustard dressing! Great channel by the way!👍
Wow! I rarely (pardon the accidental almost pun) order steak in this country as it's so often mediocre quality and poorly cooked but this looks and sounds delicious and an excellent price. And a free icecream! Great review.
A lovely video and review Greeno, thank you. The best description of liking extremely rare steak i.e. "blue" I have ever heard was: "Just walk the cow through the kitchen before slaughter". Gruesome but funny. Personally, I always ask for medium rare. I have never understood the liking for "well done", I mean it is already dead, there is no need to kill it twice! 🤣 I did like the idea of the popcorn, so long as it was savoury. Can you imagine having a mouth feeling and tasting of sugary goo before then trying to eat something savoury? Sorry, but the ultra green side salad made me laugh. "Greeno loves his greens". But honestly it did look nice, I have just never seen an all green side salad before; the nearest being garnish on the main plate which obviously does not count. There was no "harping on" in this video (or any others), just an honest review from someone who is genuinely enthusiastic about what he is doing. Personally I see no fault with that at all.
With you on the "well done" thing Gary 😀 The popcorn was indeed savoury, just popped in the beef dripping, which gave it a good flavour. My waistline wishes Greeno loved his greens more often, but if every salad out there was like that I could have it ever day - the flavours, textures and the homemade dressing were just great! As always, I appreciate your kind words about the content too!!
Nice to end the London series on a high and see such delight for great food and even the salad! Great review as always. I am a well done steak person, I know, I know lol. What a bargain for such good wholesome well made food. Such a rare thing nowadays. Looking forward to seeing where you go next!
Really enjoyed your 'tour' around 'The Smoke'. Some good. Some not so. And some beyond the pale :D Don't visit here very often but I will try to keep this in mind for the next time.
Nearly 10K Greeno, Well deserved. I love a place with a single page menu. 'Unpretentious' That's a always a positive for me! The steak looked great. I used to go blue, but I've moved over the years to medium rare.
A great review, Greeno , I love my steak rare as well , maybe not blue 😂. It has taken me years to cook a steak that was well done , yet still tender as my father likes it 😂😂😂😂 he also likes his lamb etc well done . Sigh 😢. The chips & salad looked great . Good job, you were not waving that cleaver about when the policewoman walked past 😅😅😅 . Sounds like a good service , great value place , especially for London.
I would happily eat there again and take people to eat there, it was excellent. Cooking a steak well done without it being like boot leather is an art (although not all art is good!) Joints of meat cooked well make me want to weep, spend all that money on a leg of lamb or rib of beef, and then ruin it, it’s sacrilege !
@GreenoEats I know , but I do what I have to do . Obviously I do not cook mine like that . 🤣🤣🤣 well, I'm not a fan of Picasso, so it's all in your personal taste . I just believe it let live .
A good friend of mine who hails from Dallas, Texas when asked how he wanted his steak cooked, once replied “knock its’ horns off, wipe its’ ass and stick it on a plate”……..nice vid, Greeno 😊
I have to say the staff were a delight, and really on point. Informal, yet attentive. I guess as they live on tips and a share of the service charge they could make more money elsewhere as the bills aren’t that high compared to other London venues.
I came away perfectly sated - perhaps the portion of fries was a little on the small side, but the steak was a decent size, as was the exceptional salad - with the complimentary popcorn and icecream all in all I thought it was great :-)
Great adventures in London Greeno. Please return again. Unfortunately prices will keep on creeping up and Railways are not guaranteed to run. I am watching you eat Steak at Waterloo and another bloke currently in Vegas enjoying his Filet Mignon. He paid four times more than you.
@@GreenoEats Yep, correcto. Just moan and whinge about food and cars that run on batteries and you will get your 100K subscribers. He gets more jumps without any leads.
Lovely review, the VFM Flat Iron definitely a winner in my book, I like my steak medium rare, blue is a true carnivores dream, i love blue cheese sauce tho, and oh yes, chip's in beef dripping, thats how i cook mine at home, ty for sharing Mr G 🎉
Ha ha - the problem is if you order a well done steak in the UK the chef takes that to mean "take this lovely piece of meat and turn it into leather!!" - you want some of the juices stil present or it's just dry meat - hope you have a great week too :-)
Greeno: the Béarnaise is "...a little buttery..."!! Well, it's about 95% pure clarified butter, a tiny amount of vinegar and tarragon. Another great review. Thank you. New here, following seeing you on Gary Eats.
Well considering its "London" what you reviewed is "Good", but geez a £25 lunch is pretty rare for me!, Yet your steak + everything else looked so exceptional i will one day try the same. Just that i order my steaks 'medium rare'....your steak looked almost a 'blue rare' one.Still as a complete meal it looked the best i have ever seen on any review channel- glad you enjoyed it Greeno as much as i could SEE the QUALITY 😊😂
Yeah, I understand not everyone is going out and having £25 lunches (myself included most of the time!!) - but if you're going to treat yourself it's hard to think of a place that I have been to that was so good in that budget. Absolutely delicious !
Yeah and unlike Gary who eat their 9 months ago you had the amazing salad too + somehow your plate of steak looked better than Gary's! .in London I would say it would be near impossible to find better.
