Such a fascinating concept. I have always wondered what would happen to any astronauts/cosmonauts stranded onboard the ISS in the event of a nuclear war. I wrote a fictional story based on this concept during my creative writing degree years. In my story, the astronauts were preparing to return to Earth with a life support system, initially designed for future crewed missions to Mars, to help New Zealand prepare for the arrival of the nuclear winter. I'm definitely keen to watch this movie but I highly doubt any astronauts would turn against their fellow cosmonauts (and vice versa) under such circumstances.
Well they are pretty much screwed On the ground thinkings will be worse than in space nuclear winter with -20C in hottest regions on earth (so in Europe or America it will be like from -60C to -90C) and radioactive fallout which will slowly kill everything what survive first impacts and somehow didn’t freeze down in space on the other hand resources will eventually run out soon or later
Eventually they would die of starvation or dehydrate or use up all their oxygen , that's what would happen Mark. It's much simpler and easier to send robots . Who cares if they don't come back . Space is not a environment for us . Not yet anyway . Oh yeah and who wants to spend a couple of years going to an from Mars . Stupid , enjoy this place
I still think the best movie to watch and what should be required watching by Congress and every school district is On The Beach which tells the story of a lone American submarine that survived the nuclear holocaust and found its way to Australia where they found humanity still alive and well, but knowing that the radiation circulating the northern hemisphere was slowly migrating south and would kill them too. As each has to deal with their ending, the duties of the submarine crew and her command conflict with the realities of the people ashore in Australia. The movie left me with one idea: nuclear war must never, ever happen.
DAMN RIGHT, DIVISION... it's sad to think MORE than most can't grasp the urgency of such movie and the times we're living in ! But hey, that's why so called "LEADERS" get to play games with all our lives through out history right ?! Are we doomed to repeat, never to learn ?! Wake up humans... It's the only planet earth we got !
The whole scenario is ridiculous- not because of the nuclear war, but the fact that all human life would be doomed on a planet literally burning below them, and therefore all those on the station are doomed as well. It would just take a little longer for them to die, having no supplies sent to them. There are no Walmarts in space. But the special effects look pretty cool.
Not to mention that the ISS needs a boost every month or else it'll de-orbit within a couple years. That usually involves spacecraft from the ground docking with the ISS and giving it a boost which obviously isn't going to happen anymore if the world ended.
Looks good. However, personally, I would rather the Americans & Russians not have those orders from their governments and instead work together to figure out what happened on Earth and how this group of people can move forward with their lives.
Agreed. In reality the governments wouldn’t care about the ISS in this scenario. Instead I would like the group try to figure out what happened and what they should do next.
Yes, an alternative plot would have been to escape in pods/shuttles (maybe one would die or sacrifice their life to save the others, while manually giving the middle finger to their government in their last moments). They would manage to crashland in some isolated place, like Greenland and survive until this pointless war passed (provided the nuclear explosions didn't damage that part of the world). Or perhaps another plot could have nothing to do with the Russian and U.S government tensions, and have the astronauts deal with a clever psychopath disguised as one of them who came on board. Why, you ask? Just because he or she is evil and could. Or they could have rescued some alien entity and hide it from both governments because of what they could do to it (studying and dissecting it, imprisoning it for years to come). It would be a tale of moral quandaries. Yeah, I know this was already done with E.T. If the alien somehow escapes, it would be a deux ex machina move.
Not gonna lie, this is the only trailer that got me adrenaline before Minus One in the theater. It has the kind of claustrophobic in a very creative way. Hope it goes as well as it's sold next year. (LUL When did the comment grow this fast. I even see people calling my comment CharGPT LMAO. If you're a film maker, wouldn't say the 'only' trailer you find interesting. It implies that all other trailers at that time were pretty bad. I simply find this low budget film creative. People need to turn off their political/conspiracy mindset sometimes. It's not a healthy way to live life.)
If there is nothing to return to, why fight each other to the death for a spaceship that has no weapons or capability for deep space travel. They are supposed to be smart individuals. If there's a place that they can land safely outside of both Russia and USA, of which are destroyed, then they should work together to get there just to survive. Those kill orders are moot. An easy way to fix this problem would have been if only a few nukes are activated in the war and also seen from space and then the bombing stops. That way there's actually some reason to fight and a home to still fight for. I'll watch the movie. Maybe they demonstrate a good reason to fight that I haven't thought of.
Indeed, this movie was an insult to astrophysicists, cosmologists and astronomers everywhere just like "Prometheus" was. I bet even NASA hates this film.
Not sure if you have watched the movie yet so I won’t give anything away, but there’s a very good reason why they can’t necessarily work together to all land safely. With the way the script is written, it makes sense that only one country land back in its territory.
Not true. There eyes in the sky. It's an assest. The thing is tho the ISS is not self-sufficient and would need resupply loyaltywould fall to whomever would be able to keep ot supplied i would think. Who knows tho. Humanity is a selfish creedy fucked species. .
This is an incredible trailer for what looks like to be a really thought provoking question: What would happen if Nuclear War did somehow breakout between the major Nuclear powers? Would the astronauts on board the space station obey orders to seize the station (if they ever came), or would both sides try to pull together to maximize their chances of survival (in this scenario, there would be no more supplies or help coming ever again.)
Seize the station for what? No one from the ground can get to the station because everything is destroyed. No one on the station can get to the ground. The astronauts are just going to stay up there until they run out of supplies and die.
Even if the governments did somehow survive, do you honestly think they will care about a station that holds little military importance or do you think they will worry more about surviving? Plus all that radiation in the air would prevent all communication to and from the ISS.
@@89five3fiveThere are always a couple of rescue ships on board the ISS, which the crew can use without orders from Earth. Another thing is that no one will meet the ISS crew on the ground. And there will generally be something creepy there
Continuing a small-scale "war" on a space station with a dozen people on it would be massively idiotic. :-/ But maybe trained astronauts *are* massively idiotic patriots. Who knows?
They clearly follow the commands and attack each other based on this trailer. Which makes this movie already pointless. Plus the script looks...really amateur. "I've seen it in pictures but...". She's an astronaut...she's not going to say that.
Hey there, just a heads up that it's spelled "piqued" in this case. I wouldn't normally correct grammar on RU-vid but it seems like you write with care, and figured you might appreciate knowing. Cheers!
Actually whoever wrote the script for this is kinda genius as this kind of movie has never been done before, as a script writer myself albeit amateur I can appreciate this
This looks so fucking good. Please Jesus let this be good. It’s actually a stupendous story idea asking what do you do in a situation where you’re millions of miles away, trapped with someone who may or may not be your enemy and have to decide whether or not to follow orders that may or may not even matter anymore after losing contact with your commander. Basically the same plot as Crimson Tide.
They could definitely do a prequel showing the build up and eventual events that led to the war and maybe (depending on how the movie plays out) follows a group of NASA engineers (ouuu or even SpaceX?, ESA, CSA or JAXA) trying to get in touch with them.
I'd think common sense should kick in and they'd ignore those orders and just focus on surviving. The last thing I'd want is an unnecessary fight in space like cmon. Thats not a fight you can easily run from or get away from, you're in space and most likely wouldn't be able to land on earth for some time. They should band together and focus on survival before making their way to earth after the fallout
Once you find out what they have on board with them, you will understand why only one country can return to earth. It doesn’t make sense that they would come to an agreement and all return safely
@@imsusanov2287 China's self-built space station, also known as Tiangong, or Celestial Palace in Chinese, has been fully operational since late 2022, hosting a maximum of three astronauts at an orbital altitude of up to 450 kilometers (280 miles). Oct 6, 2023
What a positive outlook the writers and producers of this movie have for humanity. Not to mention fighting over a 25+ year old space station is just retarded. Keep in mind that Space Station Mir was considered a relic and deorbited at about 15 years old.
@@AmandaNicholasNo I don’t remember that. But I do remember that the Russian government allowed one of our American astronauts to catch a ride back with 2 Russian astronauts. This was in March of 2022. Had they not had done that, our astronaut would’ve been left up there for an extended time.
@@averageamerican1639 short memory, Rogozin then head of Roscosmos stated in March 2022 that western countries should be wary since Russia controls the burn for the ISS and it flies over their countries. Blame the vodka all you want.
I'm glad a movie was finally made about In School Suspension(I.S.S). Happened to me twice 9th grade in 93". And it wasn't even me. 12th grader with the same last name. Except he's Damyon. I'm Damon....
I had this exact idea in 2016 after watching a satelite launch at the kenedy space station and finding out there are many nations on the ISS. Ww3 breaks out, theyre all given the order to take control of the station for their nation, then they have to choose between betraying their nation or their crew members. I never followed thru on it, kinda heart breaking to see that it could have actually gotten made
looks good, but i don't think the ISS would have an old 1980's ICOM IC 720 ham radio on the station. it also helps when you have the microphone connected. PS. the ISS uses the 2 meter vhf ham band on 145.800Mhz, and not the 40 meter ham band at 7Mhz🙂
@@Sirkhronox87 probably would just be easier at this point for you to name one movie in the past year that has had an original idea like this one, yet fairs better ratings wise for you.
@AJafterhourz this isn't a hard concept to come up with. Besides even if it was truly original, that automatically doesn't make it a good movie. The protagonist in the movie was a lesbian/poc (of course right), then she became a traitor when she killed a fellow American. Killed the guy who only kept thinking about his kids throughout the whole movie. Therefore this movie sucked.
It had a better plot execution because they were going up against a rogue A.I and not other humans who decided to act like puppets on strings for their irrational governments engaged in a pointless war instead of working together.
Why did they make the ISS orbit look so incredibly high? At ~250 MI the curvature of the earth would be very slight, and you wouldn't be able to see all of north America in a single frame...
Similar scenario happened in a film called: 2010 Year We Make Contact in case you haven't seen it. I'm pretty darn sure, Americans & Russians would know what is going on down on Earth at every instance BEFORE anything happens.
Kinda reminds me of how Russia threaten or sort of threaten to leave an American astronaut alone on the ISS while evacuating its Russian crew after the Russian government was heavily sanctioned when it invaded Ukraine. But in all reality, nobody would give top priority to the ISS. It's not of significant military or survival importance to have possession over.
This is different. I like it. I could imagine a few of them going back on the earth that’s filled with radiation to see there family’s for one last time.
Interesting that the first target seems to be Davenport, IA. The Arsenal is there and that is a significant base but you'd think they'd go after NORAD or Strategic Air Command in Omaha first. Maybe they meant it to be Omaha but it's too close to lake Michigan for that.
The first strike is probably going to target US nuclear capabilities, first. The initial blasts were most likely at ICBM sites throughout the Rockies. I’m surprised one of the first targets here wasn’t Barksdale in Louisiana.
Just watched this its one of the best movies i’ve seen in a very long time and i’m picky with movies. The acting is phenomenal and the plot is good from the beginning to the end definitely a 10/10.
No it's not. It used regurgitated tiresome tropes of paranoia and pitting people against each other in a pointless war instead of growing a huge pair and going against their governments in working together. If I wanted to see a paranoia film involving tension, I would have watched "The Thing." The old series, Babylon 5 did it better (written by one SOLE writer and not a bunch of ego-driven ones where one writer would fuck up a continuing thread plot of another) had Earth declare martial law everywhere with its colonies in a blatant act of xenophobia and tyranny. But instead of being an obedient lapdog that they were expected to be and follow orders, Babylon 5 went against Earth government, declared independence and protected the alien citizens living there. They also supported other human colonies who chose to side with them until the Earth government could be exorcised of its demonic President and jackass cohorts.
Has anyone else seen the 'official promo' poster that's advertised on RU-vid for this movie? It says "when WWII breaks out the astronauts have to fight..." did I miss something in history? Have we just never spoken about this happening in WWII? Are we doing everything in an alternate universe now?
Looks like a great movie (even if there’s some ‘Hollywood embellishment) love to see more and more space movies. It’s one of the movie categories that’s underproduced. There probably 10 Realllly good space movies, hopefully this is another!
Cool premise but I feel like most people would agree there are no governments anymore and just chill up there for a while until they could hopefully land and start over but this is funner
It’s like Sunshine meets Black Sea, looks amazing I can’t wait to see it. Sad reality is if this did actually occur there’s no way for them to safely come back to earth as there wouldn’t be much left to return to or it wouldn’t be safe. Once food and water supplies run out they’d eventually go mad and homicidal/suicidal.
Wait a goddamn minute….🤨 Is that anti-matter at the 1:33 mark (like the one we saw explode in Tom Hank’s “Angels & Demons”?!)😱😱 I’m watching this ohhh yeah!!
I mean, okay, but wouldn't it just be easier if the astronauts just got drunk and refused to fight each other? If the plot includes a greater reason to battle, so be it. But military orders alone from governments under nuclear holocaust won't be enough to keep the audience. Ishmael needed revenge against his whale, you know? It's got to be personal, influenced by geopolitics.
Yeah, these regurgitated tropes have already been done in other films, particularly the Cold War era ones. See "The Thing," "Crimson Tide," and "2010: The Year We Make Contact."
Really like the concept and think it'll turn out good, though if this is the cold war it makes no sense since the ISS was built seven years after the cold war.
I know, this was a turd of a film. Instead of following government orders like the little lapdogs they are, they should have given them them the middle finger, work together and plot to escape back to Earth in an isolated region. Maybe some inspirational speech by Dr. Foster on why they are about to revolt and thanking her coworkers for having faith in each other (if coming off naive). Then they all pile in an escape shuttle and go land in some isolated part of the world and manage to survive until the war is over. Maybe another scene of one of the astronauts standing and admiring a beautiful scenery of nature and conversing with Dr. Foster. He or she confesses to Foster of how pointless the war was, ruining their beautiful planet and how they are glad that they didn't fall for being manipulated by their governments into fighting each other. Science is greater and bigger than that. Dr. Foster then narrates what happened in the aftermath at the film's conclusion, while keeping the same question from the film, "What happens now? I honestly don't know."
Also: they’re marooned. They’d have no vehicles to return to Earth, and all manned rocket launch pads in the US/Russia would have been nukes. Don’t think there isn’t an ICBM out there with Cape Canaveral’s name on it.
can't wait to see if they're going to use current events as the catalyst for the nuclear war, or computer malfunction? And see if they're going to say who fired first, like in the 1983 TV movie The Day After, which deliberately left that part unknown.
From what I can find pluto went into aquarius in 1778 so things had already got really bad by that time, did it escalate things or help? My info may be wrong though 😅
@grubert3535 I agree with you, but you know how American/Hollywood movies roll. The US can do "no wrong", the Russians and the Chinese are always the bad guys, and it always comes up with a way to defeat an invading alien civilization with the rest of the world following America's lead because the screen writers seem to think that other nations are not advanced enough or are too stupid. As for this movie, we've only seen a short trailer but there is a good chance the direction it'll move towards may be what I described above. I really hope that I am wrong about this.
its not like China and Russia don't do the same thing, China makes plenty of war propaganda where they are always the good guys and the America is the bady guys, like that Korean war movie they made last year@@edwardwongiii2229
