Sorry mate 😅 sometimes the gap between the floor and the car was soo small to fit my Fat head and welding mask under so just improvised, will wear it the next time 🫡
@@barryrodgers7519 Thank you mate! I've taken a look and ordered some for the other side of the sill, can't say they are the most stylish things in the world though 🤣😅
Hey mate! I do appreciate that alot you know! The outer sill, was pretty disgusting looking, but it does the job! Alot of people giving me tips to improve the next side which I'm grateful for although most of them are slating me, tough love i call it 😅🤣❤
Thank you for the comment mate! And really appreciate it mate, Most people if not all people would of just sold this on or scrapped it, I'm glad, i've kept it on the road for even a little longer!
im not the best of welder fabricators, but by the looks of it, id switch the welder into the 2nd mode, and up the wire speed a bit to make the welds come out more flush, easier to grind, dont put either too high as you dont want to burn through the metal
Hey mate! Thank you, really appreciate it! And I definitely would, I might have to join you on that one! Welding is such a cool skill and can save you so much money, and even further, if your good enough, it can make you alot of money!!!! GOod luck mate! ❤😎
Hey mate! Thank you for the comment and your honesty 🤣🤣 Most people told me to throw the car away, and they wouldn't be wrong, although its not perfect, i'm super happy with the result! Just hopeing it stays in one pice in the next video when I try and jack it up 😅
you will have to go back to your repair job and create holes for the water to drain out of, if its fully welded with no holes it’ll be carrying water and you’ll hear it sloshing back and fourth when you drive. Good job👌🏻🫡
I've got to say that is very good first attempt at welding on a car. Its a large area to repair and you've gone about everything in the correct way. Very well done!
Hey mate! Thank you very much! I really appreciate it! Yeah, I definitely will mate, thank you for the comment, my eyes were hurting after this video 🤣 What car do you have?
@@TheOtherStuff I have an NC too, with an old man brown roof. 😁 But I think it goes with the brown leather and black paint. That or need my pipe and slippers. But yeah your work on the welding was brilliant, I'm sure it was hard, but you made it look very doable.
Hey mate! Yeah honestly, i did regret not wearing them a day after welding, I'll make sure to wear it for the other side 🤣 Thank you for the comment mate
Impressive for someone doing things on the drive, and you are getting out there and doing stuff. Outer sill looks pretty damn good. Inner sill should be made right tho as that is structual part, it has holes and bends along the way to reinforce the plate and therefore the chassis.
That seatbelt anchor point is dangerous, in a crash the rust will just crumble needs the whole anchor point cutting out and replacing not just the nut being bunged up with weld
Hey mate!!! I have a new bolt and nut coming tomorrow to weld back on! But the area around the seatbelt seems more then strong enough, but I’ll take your comment to account and check this before I put the new nut and bolt in! Thank you for the comment mate! ❤️:)
Should have got some cavity wax or under seal or even a coat of primer under there bud, cover all the bare metal before the outer skin goes on. But otherwise, kudos to you man, for a first timer you’ve done very well 👍🏼 fair play for getting stuck in, most people 💩 when they see this type of thing
Hey mate! Yeah I should of done that before it all wend back together 🙄 But I'll try and get some up in there somehow! Thank you for the comment mate 😁
Great video. Use weld thru primer next time. You could have got the complete sills cheaper. I’d weld a new sheet for the seat belt unless you have tested and it’s only surface rust.
Make sure to seal them side skirts properly so water salt of the roads and dirt doesn’t get behind them .. main cause of the sills rotting.. but well done for tackling the job yourself bro.. but ffs wear a welding mask them poor eyes 👀 lol 🤦😂
Hello mate great video. i have a tiny bit of rust showing on the rear where both my wheels connect to, but its nothing as worse as yours just to stop the rust from spreading what should i do use lanoguard?? If anyone could help id apprciate it
not bad meh guy. dont let anyone thats never built a damn thing in their life tell you shit. people love to point out stuff do this do that you messed this up and none of them got the gumption to tackle any type of repair let alone one as big as this.
Dude. You cannot do any decent weld bead without looking at what you’re doing. Did you check you got full penetration on that thickness of metal on a test section before starting? (As this is your first time using I’m guessing you’re not that familiar with the power settings you’ve got to play with?) You want to get it hot enough that you almost burn through but obviously don’t. As someone who’s only just been getting into welding parts for my NC like the Nielex clutch bracket gussets. I cannot stress how important prep is for a decent weld. It’s why welders can charge what they charge because most of their work is prep and ultimately any monkey can use a MIG torch. Especially if you’re going to grind back the welds. As long as you got good penetration that is the most important thing. If you can’t get under the car with a welding mask then I suggest you jack it up more on axle stands. The only time you can get away with not looking and closing your eyes is doing a quick little tack weld. That’s okay. But if you ever have weld spatter get you in your face or clothes you’d know about it. Get yourself some proper thick MIG gloves. As for welding to rust that’s almost as useless as a chocolate tea-pot mate. When your grinding back welds it’s important on thin sheet metal that you cool the weld down with either compressed air straight away or with a damp rag. This stops the distortion in the panel. Weld through primer can be used in certain areas too. I suggest you take a look at “Make it Kustom” Karl Fisher has excellent MIG welding tutorials. I suggest you watch his videos on fabrication it’s quite good. I’ve read most of these comments and most of them are Yes-men. Hopefully you might actually be able to get better with the info I provided. If you haven’t yet. Get a cheap Hyundai or SGS air compressor and air-duster/gun. Probably cost you £100. Dollars your tyres with it too etc. In regards to anything structural mate, I suggest you over-engineer it and if you see anything is at all rusted to bits after a fleece wheel on a grinder then it needs to be totally cut out and repaired. I’d speak to Alex or Tom @PerformanceLink as this is what they do day in, day out. That seat belt anchor defo needs some proper work. Also you could have just bent the 2mm thick or so mild steel in an old Record branded vice with some cheap Amazon Draper soft-jaws. Or even blocks of wood. Wood is good.
THERE is probably a good REASON it was going to a SCRAPYARD tbf I see people driving around with half exhaust hanging off so wonder what these evs are gonna be like when they get a rusty what the battery going to be half hanging out the car the future is scary
Mate I do work as a welder and fabricator and while this defo isn’t a professional job it’s solid and looks half decent mate take a bit more credit for someone first time welding it’s a very good effort get your mask on 😂
I understand giving stuff a go but your welding new metal onto old rusty metal. Not protecting the new metal as you go so it will rust instantly anyway
They drive like boats and are way too slow from what my mates have had. Driven 2 1.2L 64 bhp and a 1.4L 100bhp and they are just not very good. If ur tryna get into cars definitely wouldn’t recommend but if u just want a cheap first car then they are good for that.
I'm impressed mate But please use a mask for welding or at least welding glasses you will F up your eyes if you look at it Looking away is not the best either
Go on man restoring the rust bucket, im doing same right now but will fiber glass and body filler no need to weld something that I ain't keeping, nah nah nah g I just watched the whole video your car is fucked no way you can repair that
Hey mate!!!!!! Thank you for the comment! Yeah honestly bit stupid of me not to wear the mask for most of the welding, only excuse is, the car wasn’t jacked up enough, so my mask wouldn’t fit under the car 😅 But yeah mate, I can’t even lie, my eyes hurt after welding on one particular day! Will take this into account the next time 👏
