Sniper 2! Just 4 wires! That's impressive, I've avoided things like this, because every RU-vidr seems to hook 4 million miles of wires up, and that just didn't seem practical. Thanks Jared, for showing the slimmed down, common sense, easy DIY wiring!

I'm a Haltech fanboy if I'm honest, great products and aftersales but it's great to see you get a product before release to fit to the old girl. You do have to love just how simple the Holley is to fit and get running on old, large capacity American muscle.

Love this car. We had an old '74 New Yorker. Former cop car in upstate New York. It still had some shotgun shells under the seat when we got it and the inside of the quarter panels had some lead lining for traction. It was a beast. By the way, it's Bernoulli's Principle that makes a venturi work. Love you man. Watching you work on cars gives me a better attitude when I work on my own! You rock!

I've got the Sniper 1 on my '70 C10 with the 250 inline 6, and it's been really good. Unfortunately, the Sniper 1 has a less than stellar reputation, but it's mostly caused by poor installations, primarily caused by poor wiring and exhaust leaks. You CANNOT have an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor or 18" after it, or it'll run richer than Bill Gates, and usually end up damaging the O2 sensor. There are some quality control issues around the injector harness, and a lot of people zip tie the connector to the injector. Other people seems to have throttle position sensor issues. Most of the RFI issues revolve around having the coil too close to the Sniper. Because of packing the electronics into such a small space, there are compromises in the filtering and noise rejection. Mine has been really solid, but the wiring is done per the book, and the coil is a good ways away from the Sniper. I might put a Sniper 2 on the 360 that's in my '67 Barracuda. Assu,ing I ever get the freakin' shift linkage issues straightened out from the hack conversion done by the previous owner.

I just looked at Holley's website and there's *NO* support for the Ford Pinto/Lima/Courier/Ranger/Mustang/Mustang II 2.3L. Sometimes, I don't want to hear the droning noise of a V8 and use less fuel to simply cruise around. I have a project that I intend to use that type of engine in. I have a regular street version in a 1981 Ford Courier and I also have the OMC Cobra II boat version in a 1984 Mazda B2000. Neither of the intake manifolds will accept the 2300 bolt pattern. Also, vertical space is very limited in these little trucks, making the use of an adapter/spacer difficult at best. The boat intake manifold will directly accept a GM Rochester DualJet (2BBL) for a 1971 C10 with a 350. I hope Holley can/will cater to those who have a similar situation/project.

The Holley seems to be an 1850, which is not a double pumper. Its a vacuum secondary with a metering block up front and a metering plate in the rear. The Demon appears to be a air valve secondary with the counter weight aystem from a Carter AFB. My preference? The Rochester Quadrajet. The only thing that comes close is an AVS when it comes to drivability. They are hard to set up but when done right they are set and forget, unlike the Holley.

I knew I couldn't be the only one to notice that. Uncle Tony would have a heyday on this video. Nothing wrong with a carbie if you enlighten yourself about them. Modern fuel being a real problem with its low boiling point and ethanol content.
@3rdworldgarage450
@3rdworldgarage450 Год назад
@@Grumpy_Stiltskin The other cool thing about a carb is that it is mechanical, not electronic. That means that when parts become obsolete they can still be fabricated for little cash versus a niche efi system that is produced in small numbers that the manufacturer can remove support for at a whim. For an example of this, see the Ferrari 308 in the background.

I dont know if anyone as informed you but the first Holley carb is a single pump with vacuum secondaries. No vacuum secondary carb has a second mechanical pump, only mechanical secondaries do. Also the secondary throttle plates do not open mechanically by the throttle pedal, they are opened by the vacuum releasing a lock out and throttle controlled spring tension. Still that said it was a good video. Question though are these units fully tunable? Also does the system hold 60 psi upon powering the ignition key or only when cranking or running?

@jordancapps9521
@jordancapps9521 Год назад
To help out our fellur Professor Jared: Much of why production fuel injection makes so much more power than carbs ever could is due to ancillary computer controlled devices and on-the-fly tune adjustments built into the computer. VVTi, variable lift valves, computer optimized timing, computer monitored burn quality(and on the fly adjustments), instant compensation for ambient air pressure and humidity, ability to optimize engine and transmission performance to create optimal mesh, and we cannot forget Nissan's new variable stroke(compression) system. Without all of the extras, fuel injection can be outperformed by a carb.
@jessebrook1688
@jessebrook1688 Год назад
Though, the malaise-era throttle body fuel injection was a better fix for emissions than the vacuum-fed variable-venturi carbs, and they did manage to match the power of carbs of the day. The end of carburetion was messy.

I’d give my left nut to have that car. Sadly up here in Canada cost of living makes this car guy relegated to dreaming and watching RU-vid videos. I have too many kids and costs. Always said “one day” and at 45 I’m running lower on time for something even remotely cool. Modernize the suspension and brakes. New valve covers and E fans. Then yellow out the inner headlights and this thing would be superb. Alas. I’m in Canada. Jarred wouldn’t even consider me. Love the channel. Been following you since day one back in the “T” days in Florida. Hope you succeed in all that you do. Peace.

It might need a larger air filter for pumping enough air but I'm just armchair mechanic -- however I did watch the peak horsepower being restricted on the Ferrari because of lack of air flow.

Holley giving Jared an unreleased product to test and showcase? Sounds questionable to me. But my oh my it WORKS! Which car in the fleet would have another Sniper 2? Saving old gold!

I see you are using the jack pads from a QuickJack to display the carb/fuel injection units.

Jared did you end up using a relay for the fuel pump? Nice work, I like that hard line to the fuel tank.

15:42 , the kickdown linkage is incorrectly set. It should be all the way back in the long hole, so the linkage follows the throttle from the first movement.

Great simple system - one question; hope can the unit 'learn' if there's no feedback in terms of exhaust gas or knock sensors?

There is an oxygen sensor, installing it was a bit dull on footage so it missed the cut

Um, I might be a motorcycle guy. But that Holley isn't a double pumper or a mechanical secondary. I feel like such a champ now.

Why tune your carburetor? Its old school hot rodding, thats why. Same as leaving a points ingition on something. Efi is neat and certainly has its benefits for drivability and ease of tuning.

Im a fan of keeping the old arts alive, and tuning a carb is certainly an art. But for a cruiser road trip car, it really is hard to beat the EFI upgrades!

I'd like to see this on the dyno and see it tuned like Dave's Ferrari. I love this car, i learned to drive in a '76 New Yorker from my grandfather, good times.
