Don’t get shit twisted: Nas WAS NOT afraid of Pac, he just didn’t want any kind of beef over hearsay bullshit because there was too much respect between there. Snoop Dogg & others have talked about how Nas had people ready to smash if anything jumped off but he kept it from going that way. Looking at how things went left between Pac & Biggie, people should be glad that Nas decided to try being peacemaker instead of beefstarter...

He didn't say it was about Biggie. He said it was just a line. The first line was "fake thugs get no love". So if he shook his hand, why would he claim not to give love to a fake thug in the song. That would make more sense had he not shook Pac hand. He was talking fake thugs in general. Which is what he told Tupac at the music awards later on that homie spoke about. Which is when Tupac told Nas about Hit em Up and that because he thought the line in The Message was about him, that he put Nas in the rhyme. Also, in the same conversation Tupac told Nas to meet him in Cali the following week to make a song together but Tupac got killed the week before.

Nas wasn't talking about Tupac though. Even though the line caused the misunderstanding, he wasn't talking about Tupac when he said Fake thugs get no love. That's what was cleared up in New York and brought about the plans to collaborate which of course unfortunately never happened. Tupac also told Nas about Hit em Up and they agreed that Nas wouldn't respond to it. That shit hurt Nas that Tupac died before they could record. They both respected each other a lot.
