I saw it in 35mm and 70mm IMAX. Obviously 70mm IMAX was the best experience, but i should mention if you have to choose between 35mm and Digital, I'd still go with 35mm. Sure it has slight imperfections and blemishes, but its a rare experience nowadays and I 100% recommend it.

I saw it in 70mm IMAX at a huge almost 180 degree theater that wraps around you like a planetarium at a museum near me. One of the best movie watching experiences ever. I even loved during the silent points the only sound was the projector running. Just don't get stuff like that in any other movie. Oh and if you can only see it in a "normal" theater look for Dolby Atmos theaters, they have the best sound I've heard, a lot of AMC theaters have them.

Dragged my family to Denver to see it on 5/70mm. Well worth it, loved the movie. Incredible story, the cinematography was excellent, and the Trinity test has overthrown the docking scene as (what I believe to be) the greatest scene in all of cinema. We saw it on a platter, so no changeovers, but you could still tell it was film, and I loved it. Nolan, you keep at it you madman. We love you for it.

Very minor correction, Oppenheimer was filmed in 15 perf 70, whereas at the start you showed 5 perf 70, so the resulting frame size was about 9.5x the size of super 35 and not 4x. Hope you get to see a better viewing on 70mm, it sounds like they had issues at your cinema. If you really can be bothered, there's 2 cinemas in San Francisco that are showing in full 15 perf 70mm, which is what i saw it in. If you do go it woukd be interesting to hear the difference between full imax and regular 70mm. Thanks for the video

I saw it in standard 70mm and I think my print in NYC was different than yours. There was definitely some damage but it was a little more mild than your recreation. The contrast was especially dark, skin tones were reddish or orange. Lots of deep blues and a hint of green, especially in the scenes where Oppie is being interrogated. The glow cast from the projector illuminated so much of the movie. Especially during the Trinity test, seeing the black night sky contrasted with a deep orange glow. It was truly magnificent. I hope the 4K UHD resembles it somewhat.

I ended up seeing it 4 times too, all at flagship screens. 2 different IMAX 70mm locations (projector quality can affect the experience as one was clearly better to my eyes) IMAX Laser Dual 4K "Standard" 70mm (No projection issues) That's also my order of preference. The picture quality of the IMAX film shots on the better 70mm IMAX projector were magical (still very impressive on the "lesser" one, just not magical), that's from someone who's used to going to flagship screens regularly. Saw it Tuesday in 70mm because Albuquerque does not have a 70mm IMAX theater. Very good copy with only some vertical lines for a few seconds at the beginning. Went out of focus once for about a minute after a reel change. I read several YT reviews complaining that the sound was way too loud, but volume at my theater, while quite loud, was fine and I only had difficulty hearing the dialogue briefly 2-3 times. Btw, I was privileged to see 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968 when it came out at a Cinerama theater in Denver, CO. I was 16. What an experience. Anyone who hasn't seen that movie in a theater, especially in a 70mm print, truly has not really seen it.

Saw it last night on 70mm. Was shocked at how rough it was, with ongoing horizontal scratch marks amd occasional vertical lines on the left or right edges. It was fairly distracting at first. And thankfully it seemed to minimize after the first third or so. I want to see the digital version now to get a feel for the differences. I couldn't tell if the film made it appear older or if it was stylized that way by the filmmakers.

You really should *not* be seeing any wonky-ness during changeovers. If you're seeing anything over than the cue dots and a crisp change in scene, then the projectionist goofed! If you saw a test chart, then they either took to long to start the motor or didn't advance the film far enough in the projector when threading. Glad you liked it, but that's not really what's supposed to happen.
@davidjames579

yeah I agree I've never seen the test card or anything but the film in any film screening I've been (and that's a lot). The whole point of the Cue Dots is so the projectionist can do a seamless switch from one reel to the next.

4:16 you saw the 5 perf 70mm version. The imax 15perf 70mm version is all one reel with no reel changes or cue markers for such and 15perf 70mm is higher fidelity and fed through horizontally versus 70mm 5 perf. I just saw it last night on true 70mm IMAX since I suppose I'm lucky enough to live somewhere that has one still. You may be aware of this fact but you don't clearly express that many theaters may play a 70mm version which isnt the IMAX version and what the differences are between 15p70mm IMAX and 5p70mm standard film. Also, it's mostly shot on 65mm and transferred; the 70mm print needs room for the audio and sync tracks which aren't present on the film that goes into the camera, otherwise your camera and film would be larger for no reason other than being able to fit audio/sync later in editing and since you don't just add this onto the original film, no one would stand for that extra weight, cost and hassle..and even if the camera stock was 70mm, the actual image would have to be cropped or scaled on the print to fit audio/sync anyway
