I watched the Street Fighter 1994 movie one time... while working in a video store. So this is "technically" the first time really watching the Street Fighter movie with Jean Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming Na Wen as Chun-Li, Wes Studi as Sagat, Kylie Minogue as Cammy, and the late great Raul Julia as M. Bison. The movie also features Ken, Ryu, Zangief, DeeJay, E. Honda, Balrog, T. Hawk, Vega, Dhalsim, Blanka? and... Captain Sawada? Is this movie good, bad, or so bad it's good? Yes.

yep, he was literally dying as he did this role as M. Bison (which honestly his actual dying state, made him look so good as bison), and gave it his very all (his literal last n dying performance), and all for his own kids, as they loved the street fighter game so much (I actually think this is a really good movie, especially for a fighting video game, this movie and mortal kombat movie, the original MK 1 movie --- I've not seen the 2021 movie yet, are both really good fighting video game movies, I really don't at all understand why people think this is a bad movie, it's good, yes it's campy-corny, but it's still good, and then add in dying raul as M. bison, as cream on top of the cake, laughs) (I think I really only knew of Raul through this movie and of course with the addams family movies, but I don't think I've seen any other movies with him in them)

Pre-panini my friends and I would have a bi-monthly movie/ game night meetup where we’d play boardgames (Cthulhu Wars, Legends of Waterdeep, Mansions of Madness, etc.) and then find the worst horror movies Netflix had to offer, and spend the entire times ripping it to shreds. Good times, good times. And luckily because we’re all now fully vaxxed we’re starting back up😁

one of my favorite jokes was Zangief's sideways thumbs up. The entire movie I'm like, "what is he doing?" and then when Van Dam meets him at the end, he straightens the thumbs up, Gief is all " =o ! " I was dying!

Fun fact: JCVD was coked out of his mind during the filming of this movie. Once you notice that, SOOOO much makes sense about his performance, also ' I bet you didnt seeeeeee that, did you' is a classic. Sagat almost laughed afterwards, you can see it

Apparently he was doing a lot of coke and Kylie Minogue and they were skipping out on most shoots, that's why some scenes don't make sense, since they had to shoot something those days but were missing JCVD. Then some of the fights ended up being too violent for ratings (like fights with Vega's claws) and had to be cut altogether. Production on this movie was such a disaster but Raul Julia just makes it amazing.

@Cee Wil I wouldn't call it great but yeah it's a good for sure, when I say it's far from great I wasn't trying to imply it's bad. Just it's one of those movies where it is what it is. It wasnt made trying to win awards or trying to be a great work of art it was made to have fun and they nailed it. Yeah bordello of blood is pretty much unwatchable

The greatest thing about this is Raul Julia for sure. But I always give it bonus points for the casting. The actor who played T. Hawk is Gregg Rainwater, who is actually part Native American, and the dude who played Vega is Jay Tavare who is part Native American, part Spanish. The dude is 50 years old and is still shredded. Kenya Sawada did try out for Ryu, turns out, they liked him so much that made a character for him in the movie, and even kept his name. This movie is beautiful.

This film.. is nuts. Last time I saw this, was on VHS as well. I did watch in theatres. That was a wild experience. Feels like forever ago. Kylie Minouge as Cammy, and Ming Na Wen as Chun Li. Excellent casting. But dang Raul Julia as Bison.. just too dang awesome for words (we lost him too soon) Double Dragon next.. oh this is going to be fun. 😅

Dude, I had such a huge crush on Kylie Minogue in this movie, I literally had my parents buy me a copy of this movie for her. I never even owned any of the Street Fighter games, it was just a fighting game at the arcade to me. Mortal Kombat was my bread and butter, but man, as a child I simped for Cammy. Lol

While it's true that Street Fighter gained a cult following over time, there were plenty of us who have loved it for as bad as it is from the first time we saw it in the theater. Kind of like some folks have always liked SMB. Honestly, "Quick! Change the channel" is one of the funniest lines in cinema history. EDIT: fixed a typo

I liked it as a kid and as time has gone on it to me has stayed great. This and the first MK movie are just awesome. Also lets take a min to appreciate that they didnt make Kylie take her pants off to wear the game costume. It was the 90s and its just shocking that they held back. This movie was smarter than I think it gets credit for.

13:16 fun fact: Captain Sawada was Capcom Japan's sole contribution to this movie. Apparently this was supposed to be the debut of this actor and character becoming Capcom's new mascot.

The story was, that Raul Julia, given a script that offered no real backstory for his character, came up with a backstory on his own to provide motivation for his acting. If memory serves, he came up with the idea that in Bison was the sun of a major South American drug lord who is raised in European military academies. That's how great an actor and what a consummate professional he was. Even when making a Bee movie for his kid, he still did everything he could to give the best performance possible

I love SF the movie. I remember when it came out, I remember the toys, I remember finally getting to see it on VHS and loving it. I also remember the arcade game that no one played when I would go to putt-putt (miniature golf that had an arcade, it was the bomb-dot-com back in the 90s. super saturday!). I wish I could be 9 again....

This is probably the best of the "let's capitalize on a franchise but get everything completely wrong" line of video game adaptations. It's so ridiculous and ham it's a joy to watch. And, obviously, Raul Julia absolutely owns this movie, chews up the stage every second he's on screen.

I absolutely love your style of reviewing, especially when you're looking at cheesy/bad movies like this. You always make them sound so absolutely ridiculous and fun XD Honestly you're the type of person I'd wish to have as a friend to watch bad/so bad it's good movies or tv series(like certain anime series based on light novels...) because it'd make them ten times more entertaining than watching on my own.

I watched this movie with a bunch of other fighting game fans years ago and we riffed on it the entire time. The scene where T. Hawk and company chase Chun Li down the hall and she leaps out the window to escape, my friend Chloe yelled, "Just Condor Dive after her ass!"
