I SAW THE TV GLOW Ending Explained 

So it seems like im the only who thinks our 2 main characters ARE the tv characters. But the moon man villain is who threw them into an alternate premade reality he designed for them to suffer and live a not so normal life. Doomed to live a soulless life, never to be defeated by his 2 adversaries

in the end when he cut himself open , i had to think of the conversation they had when he approached maddy on that football field in the first half of the movie and asked if she is still hanging around with Amanda because he wanted to join them to watch the tv show again. in that conversation he said "it feels like someone took a shovel and dug out all my insides and i know there is nothing in there but im still too nervous to open myself up and check". then during the bathroom scene he literally cut himself open to check and it started to shine very bright and he smiled because he realized there still is something in there, something which has been long forgotten or maybe not forgotten but ignored and suppressed an entire life . on my own personal level this really resonated with me in a very intense way. a part of me wanted the movie to end there, because when he got out and started to say sorry to everyone it absoultely broke my heart. i watched this movie a week ago and i think about it all day still.

I saw this movie last week. The ending destroyed me.

This is the best explanation of this movie I’ve seen on RU-vid and I’ve watched a lot of them. As a trans women, this movie really captured how I felt before transitioning.

Listen, just because a movie attempts to be deep doesn't mean they are successful at it. I watch this movie as a result of the reviews. I like fantasy, sci-fi, mystery that sort of thing, so I said I got to check it out. This movie was s***. It was so bad I think I was in it. Now if this movie has something to do with some trans message, which I'm completely indifferent to. I think it was a complete failure even for that attempt. I completely got what it was trying to do, it just didn't pull it off.I have enjoyed and praised many a movie with topics completely world's away from my life. Such movies on the most interesting to me. I'm capable of seeing things through the eyes of others. Still this movie didn't pull it off.

I must be broken. I love so many A24 films but I thought this one was awful. Not sure if my brains broken but not a fan.

Amazing analysis

I think its as simple as they're both mentally ill/socially inept and unhappy in their current situation. They relied on the show & immersing themselves in it for different things. Maddy saw herself as Tara because she wanted to be a badass lesbian; comfortable and defiant. Owen wanted to be Isabel for obvious reasons. Maddy went off the deep end after the show was cancelled, ran away and genuinely believed her delusions while Owen knew she had lost it but so badly wanted it to be true and to go along with it.

I went into this movie totally in the dark about the plot and didn't know it was a trans allegory/metephor until reading the reviews. While watching it I honestly thought this movie was about people wasting their life living vicariously through tv shows/nostalgia only to realize the horrors of neglecting your own life until its too late. People commonly compare and identify themselves with the characters on their favorite tv shows all the time. I thought the ending was implying the sad realization of a wasted life (no traveling, same job, no growth as a person) and that the greatest moments in their life was some corny kids show that doesnt even hold up.

i feel like this is true, but i also feel like him being the tv character in the show and being trapped in a dream like state is also the case.

Hated it

We had to stop this about an hour in and I was enjoying it quite a bit. Finished the lats bit this evening... wow that was bad. This had some great build up then just flat out sucked. Kathleen Kennedy Stranger Things. Don't waste your time on this trash.
