This time, I wanted to do something really special, so I took my $50 HP Deskjet 2600 All-in-One Series printer/scanner, placed a slice of banana in it, and let it scan for almost three months. During this time I took 9901 scans, each averaging in size about 120MB. The result is this first-ever time-lapse video that was filmed in a scanner.

I dont understand how these things have existed for thousands of years and somehow managed to not go extinct. Like they only last for such a short period of time, and people eat so many. It would be so easy for them to all die off.

To not ruin future scanners (or to not use them as one time cameras), maybe you can put a transparent film at the top and bottom? Though it might react or get scrunched up with the movement over time? Just ideas to reduce e-waste.

OMG THE MAGGOTSSSS!! I was at school after a day camp, and we were cleaning out the dishes from day camp, and we left the dishes at school because it was already 6:00 and we had go home at 6:00. the whole time i was considering how you set this up so the printer was not damaged. i was thinking "he probably used a thin glass sheet so it wasnt on the printer.. or a bowl to keep stuff out and a sheet of white plastic so it doesnt touch the lid." but nah you just toss the banana on the printer and go lol! i hope it was cleanable so you can use it again this worked really well 😀

Thanks! Yes, I still have it. It was easy to clean the glass, but very difficult to clean the lid. I might just going to replace that

Can you show a behind the scenes of this printer? How did you create a timelapse with it?

There is not much to it, and a behind the scenes video would be very different than my usual style. But basically what I did was I set up a separate computer, I had this printer connected to it. Then I used chatgpt to write a code that scans at certain intervals. The rest is just usual time lapse post processing. But get a big enough drive if you decide to do something like this, scans take up crazy amount of storage.
