I SHIP THEM!!!! Ducktales 1x15 Episode 15: The Golden Lagoon of White Agony Plains! Reaction 

Goldie O'Gilt is such a great character who's sadly pretty underutilized. She first appeared in the Scrooge McDuck comics of the 1950's, where she was a much more fierce rival and more of a clear antagonist. She was Scrooge's love interest at one point, but that didn't end up going anywhere. I find this show's version to be a lot more interesting. They did a great job bringing her back in the spotlight and revitalizing her from the comics.

Scrooge became rich in the Klondike Gold Rush, which lasted from 1896 to 1899. He was already a fairly accomplished adventurer at that point, though still young. Back in the 1950s when he first appeared in the comics it was still a believable backstory for an elderly character, but nowadays they have to use time warps and fountains of youth to justify it -- and the fact that Donald's mother is still Scrooge's sister.

"It gets BETTER!" - Those 3 words sum up DuckTales so well. No matter how great you think it is right now, it just keeps getting better and better. This show could easily have been a horrible reboot, but they somehow made it even better than the original. (And I loved the original!)

The thing is, Scrooge loves Goldie BECAUSE he knows she'll backstab him. Same with Goldie. They give each other a challenge.

Given how dangerous we know Miss Beakley & Webby are, I got to wonder just how much more dangerous Goldie is.

Ahh, yes.... Goldie. Arguably my favorite secondary character in the show.

Glittering Goldie O'Gilt is one of those cool but tragically underutilized characters in the Barks/Rosa canon, as the stories were generally a boys' club. She was a an antagonist during a short period of Scrooge's history and then became the love interest that could never go anywhere due to his obsession with becoming the richest duck in the world. DuckTales 2017 did a great job upgrading her to this whole partner/rival/ex thing they've got going on, and giving her actual present-day relevance.

The generally most consistant date for Scrooge's birth that we have is 1867! That makes him around 150 years old depending on when excactly the series is set

The whole "centuries" thing was a hyperbole. In our reality, the Klondike Gold Rush took place from 1896 to 1899. (I'm always surprised anytime I look up something related to the Wild West - although Klondike is only loosely related - by how close to the modern times it all took place. The twentieth century had so many things crammed into it it pushes everything before it further away.)

Goldie is a delight in every appearance. No spoilers, fake or otherwise, I just really think her character is used well throughout the series

The triplets aren't the first one to ship Goldie and Scrooge. Donald's generation shipped them together and Scrooge's sisters shipped them together. Scrooge was journeying with Ratchet Gearloose his business partner in the gold hunting business. Scrooge became a business man with Goldie after Ratchet Gearloose decided to become an inventor.

One thing I love about Ducktales is that, for a good portion of the show, the epic, grandiose fantasy adventures sort of take a backseat in order to tell its far more engaging emotional story woth it's characters. The actual 'adventure' is more of a set piece while the characters are the stars. I also love how this episode both does and does not answer the 'how old is Scrooge' question

Yay!! You've met Goldie!!!! I really like her, she's so cheeky but her character is complex due to her giving Scrooge gold fever by getting gold in his eye. 🤭

Canonically, Scrooge was born in 1867 in Glasgow, Scotland. Goldie is approximately as old as him.

Frugality. That's the word you were searching for. As to Scrooges age, I believe his age is something of a little running gag, and the writers make him as old as need be for the joke at hand. His age has been significantly enhanced by his adventures, like being stuck in other dimentions, age altering curses or artifacts and plain old time travel. At this point he could be an ageless immortal or an antient duck in modern time . Take your pick.

I freaking loved that episode because it provides us with lore based from a comic book that I have. One thing that I love about this show is that it doesn't change Scrouge's backstory. Scrouge made his first appearance in comics in the 30s or 40s. Back then, it seemed pretty reasonable for him to be alive during the gold rush. Now, it seems kinda impossible for a man to be alive for so long. I like that they give an explanation that during his travels he must have discovered ways to prolong his life and in that way, they don't have to change his origins. In the comic, Scrouge and Goldie met in Dawson during the gold rush. After learning that Scrouge had found a gold nugget the size of a goose egg, Goldie, who was an entertainer at a saloon, invited him over for a cup of coffee. This resulted in him waking up stranded in the wilderness. After returning back to town, Scrouge took back his gold from Goldie and took her to his gold mine in White Agony Plains and made her work with him for six months to learn to make money honestly and not by stealing it from prospectors. The mammoth is real, although in the story, it's just a frozen corpse, Scrouge uses as a scarecrow against thieves. During these six months, they meet famous characters of the old west, but that's another story.

Goldie is voiced by the marvelous Allison Janney, perhaps best known as CJ Cregg from The West Wing, and also in the likes of 10 Things I Hate About You, Hairspray (the musical version), Juno, and her Oscar-winning role in I, Tonya. She's especially known for being six feet tall (1.8 meters as you'd say), which many of her live action roles have made good use of (there's one shot in The West Wing pairing her with the 4 ft. 11 Kristin Chenoweth, looking like two different species).

These two have such a Batman and Catwoman vibe.

Can't wait to see Mosco's reaction when she sees how Goldie and Lena are related.

Goldie always seemed to me like a cross between Irene Adler and River Song(from doctor who). Especially since David Tennent plays Scrooge. I was half expecting Goldie to say "hello sweetie".

If you like Keith Ferguson's performance as Glomgold, you should watch Wander Over Yonder where he plays a similar "villain", not scottish but still very funny and over the top (plus that show is criminally underrated)

The gold rush was around the 40s and 50s... the 1840s and 1850s

the interesting thing is that in a future episode, they reveal the year Scrouge was born in 1867 and it is actually after the gold rush which took place in 1848 so the statement that he lived at the time of the gold rush as said in this episode is untrue. and I find that funny, also if we say that the events of the show are in 2017 (since that is when the show was made) then he is about 150 years old.

Goldie is probably the one in the whole world who can keep up with Scrooge and is always guaranteed keep him on his toes. And vise versa for Goldie.

There’s some ships the fandom just agree on. Donald and Daisy are the big one(just in general), as well as quite a few people shipping Launchpad and Darkwing Duck from the Darkwing Duck show since they were basically coparents(Launchpad from that being the same guy in this rebooted version, just hanging out with Scrooge) And now you know Scrooge and Goldie. Less enemies to lovers and more enemies AND lovers

Scrooge is older than you could imagine. Fun fact about Goldie, you eventually find out that she is the result of time travel. Her parents are friends of Scrooge, but in the future after he dies a few times. Goldie was kidnapped as a baby and taken back in time to be raised as Scrooge's mortal enemy, brainwashed to desire to kill him. Of course this takes place in the future after Scrooge dies a couple of times and.... Wait, I might be getting confused with something....

Scrodile is one of the few, if not only, ships I actually support specifically because Goldie is canonically established to be Scrooge’s “ex-everything” and as such their chemistry feels legitimate to me. Other than them…I got nothing. What can I say? I’m just not a shipping person. But the triplets definitely ship them 😂

Thinking you're jumpi8ng back into one of the other plot threads right after new one was introduced...unaware this show has more than three plot threads...well I mean we have (so far) the Della Duck mystery, Magica DeSpell, GlomGold plots, Marc Beaks...which to be fair as the ending implied the Gizmo Duck plot thread is being tied into the Marc Beaks thread, and I think so far that's it, not including just referencing reoccurring enemies, I mean the Beagle family feud is less a plot thread and more just reoccurring antagonists, which is where Goldie is as well, characters who build on their past appearances and show up here and there. So I don't know if we should count them as plot threads or just antagonists.

The true final villain is Doofus Drake, he calls together Scrooge's greatest enemies so they can finally get revenge. Ultimately his plan fails because they each want to be the one to personally destroy Scrooge, while Doofus was just trying to use them to get revenge on the triplets.

Lena is the boys' half sister, her father is Mickey Mouse and that is why she's the only duck that wears shoes. Minnie used the spear of Selene to get rid of Della. Technically Aunt Magica saved Lena from her wicked stepmom, Minnie Mouse.

4 maybe spoilers maybe not. 1: Scrooge and Goldie are basically "Duck Elves" or "Duck Highlanders" and have been alive for many centuries, many adventures, and view each other as their greatest rivals...except for Santa...they both hate him for what he did. 2: Goldie is Della's great grandmother. 3: Goldie is Webby's biological mother. Goldie just showed up one day and dumped her to "keep her safe" while Goldie went back to treasure hunting and told Scrooge he could handle it because he is Scrooge McDuck. Beakly took control and declared herself Webby's grandmother to cover up this truth and as a spy invented a fake tragic backstory so Webby wouldn't have to deal with knowing her own mother abandoned her. 4: Glomgold is such a rival to Scrooge, he not only has a fake beard, he is fake Scottish, in fact he is fake Scottish duck entirely, he's actually four gnomes in a costume trying to get back at Scrooge by being the richest scottish duck, which was Scrooge's whole identity to them.

Scrooge and Goldie really are a perfect pair She's tons of fun, he's no fun at all, she completes him

The reason why Scrooge is so old is to match his comic counterpart, the Gold Rush was more reasonable in the late 40s so nothing like a lil' throwaway line to explain everything

Demogorgon is indeed used in D&D, but the origin come from texts from ancient Christian scholars writing about pagan gods, where they probably made a typo, OR completely invented it, cause there’s absolutely no evidence that this was ever a thing in any pagan beliefs we still know of today. D&D used the name later on for one of their creature… xD But yeah, Goldie do remind me of Irene too, and she make a perfect girlfrennemy to Scrooge. :p
