It's so nice to see Linus, the guy who made the channel it is today sharing his passion to the world. Then you have Elijah who grew up watching the videos and now started working at LTT from that. So wholesome!
21:06 The fact that Elijah proved the point Linus brought up earlier, that he has encyclopedic knowledge of nearly EVERY LTT video, made me burst out laughing in tears. 🤣😂
Audio engineer here - the Yamaha HS series isn't designed to be used on their side as it will introduce comb-filtering, which will go against trying to put out accurate audio playback. Keep em vertical!
Elijah has got to be one of my favorite personalities that you've hired recently. Just a great sense of humor and a willingness to go with the bit for a good laugh. honestly everyone who has been on camera has a great stage presence!
this might be might nitpick and i am not sure if has a condition or something, but whenever i see is yellow teeth it just bothers me soo much. love the dude hate that part
10:30 something he didn't mention is the difference between STUDIO monitors and the sony XM4s, which are consumer-grade headphones. The monitors are specifically designed for music production, while the headphones are designed for music consumption. Studio-grade monitors (whether they're speakers or headphones) produce higher fidelity sound and have a flat EQ profile, while most consumer products have a factory EQ profile that boosts low frequencies to make bass sound punchier, etc.
@@funky555 I know it's a joke, but I didn't really get that it was meant to be a "hex code" until I read this comment as I don't think of hex codes as anything other than base 16 numbers, in this case going up to 6 digits (and not 6 letters). But even then, I knew it was a joke and didn't ever act like it wasn't, so it's almost like you didn't need to tell me that sarcastically.
Just wanted to say - I'm from Jasper, AB and now am an evacuee due to the wildfire that burnt down our town. I have been rewatching all of the Ultimate Tech Upgrades this past week as a distraction. This just made my day to open the channel and see a new upgrade video posted! Thank you for this content. It has meant a lot to me during this time of my life. Cheers.
Big love from Australia, we were in Canberra during the fires, we were lucky but friends lost houses. I really hope you get the support, financial and community, you need.
And I thought you were about to comment how stupid that living room fire is for safety :) Wish you and all of them best of luck in all seriousness though.
In this Episode, Linus recognizes Elijah as a All-Powerful All Linus has to say is "I never said that" and Elijah will say "ScrapYard wars season what ever, the section where you were in the parking lot with the cameraman calling the person"
@@xeno942 To be fair if the company damaged someone else's stuff they'd 100% replace it. maybe even use it as a video to pay for it. but they would. Linus doesn't seem like the guy to mess up employee stuff and not take responsibility for it. ESPECIALLY now.
Ok so Elijah's knowledge is a cool superpower BUT his ability to command the editors to put stuff in is a better one. Please let this continue. Right now everyone else gets shot down when they ask an editor to remove/change something!!!
"Well that helmet is garbage" THANK YOU LINUS! Finally someone who throws away a helmet when they drop. Helmets are only good to protect you for 1 fall
fun fact - that fireplace thing is meant for outside on porches and shit - can you imagine having a vessel of ethanol alcohol where someone can knock it over and burn down everything.... 0_0
@@CanIHasThisName I don't think it would be for heating purposes in any way, it's for asthetics :) And yes, outside it makes way more sense, AT LEAST for safety concerns.
There were plenty of these alcoholic fires indoors in the past. My mother have one that is literally a bowl on a pedestal with a linen wick. So they were probably more common indoors than outdoors, I say.
@@lemonsniffs The flame is rather unimpressive and it isn’t a good lightsource either. Its primarily for heating, the amount of heat even a small lamp throws is enough to heat a small room within minutes. If you want one for outdoors, it needs to throw enough heat to the sides, which this one doesn’t
laid flat, the tweeters outside is correct, we hear most of the spatial audio in the high frequencies so that will get the greatest perceived stereo spread
For mixing, though, you want the signals to be as coaxial as possible. Since we're not as sensitive to vertical audio positioning, I think you should have the tweeters above or below the woofers. If you want a wider stereo spread, move the monitors farther apart.
It's actually totally incorrect since the speakers are designed to be placed vertically. Now the "sweet spot" for good stereo field is so tiny that you lose half of the benefits of using monitoring speakers. Might as well use some headphones. 👍 The only reason engineers are placing these speakers like that is to see through the window behind the desk lmao. And they never mix music like that either.
@@rigaudioyes it's true, but mostly, these speakers are designed in a way that it's a lot easier to have your head in the optimal position when they are vertical. Having them flat kind of kills their purpose since their biggest advantage over headphones is the 180° stereo field lol.
Absolutely love the Elijah "chraracter ". Love that he actually knows stuff.. But somehow in the TechUpgrades he's a bitr of a doofus. And for Elijah: No we will not forget the helmet meme
In all seriousness - the 8m mark shows why those “clear flames” can be so dangerous. Kudos for being humble enough to include that in the video. Be safe kids - when doing anything with such chemicals and potential heat sources 🙃
Yeah, I'm over them taking the mick out of him every time he's on camera. You can hear the fustration in his voice this time, especially when Linus put the fire in front of him. It gives me that same level of uncomfortable as when they used poke fun at Dennis for being awkward. He's been awesome in scrapyard wars, I want to hear more of his tech knowledge on camera.
@@dreamster8264 It is a slippery slope sometimes when people get type cast as it's hard to shake off that 'version' of you..Anyways, I agree - I didn't know he was so clued in on hardware so yeah, lets see more of that 👍
The hs50m and hs5m are often incorrectly placed sideways, cause the ns10ms were made to. However, with the new hs50 and hs5, they are designed to be upright. The Tweeter should be in line with the woofer.
5:24 There's the flaw. It should not be a screwdriver set but a repair set. It doesn't include a tweezer or other prying tools for disassembling electronic devices.
The was hilarious the ltt couch and matching pillows had me in stitches. I noticed the Gimbal on the drone was probably stuck due to the packaging insert that has to be removed before flight of the drone.
If I were Linus i would never stop hosting Christmas parties, because by now accusing people of stealing from the office has become an essential part of the Tech Upgrades :)
lol Elijah’s video knowledge being on point is really impressive, you should do a game show Elijah vs the members of the videos and see if Elijah can guess the video better than the people in the video
Fun fact about the drone and airport thing. It's not just about airspace and objects being there. It's also about radio interference near airports. Amateur radio operators have to keep that in mind when operating near an airport. We have to know what frequencies we can use.
I appreciate the small audio engineering aspect at 11:24, but a quick note: Speakers alone won't help much if they're so close to the wall and in untreated rooms and they definitely shouldn't be put sideways unless intended, since that ruins the stereo image
The diversity from handheld console to furniture and even fire really made it stand out. The part with the DJI drone was unexpected, but quite an entertaining twist.
@@benwu7980 I can imagine a whole day of shooting would leave you with a full day of footage - significantly more if you used more than one camera. Even still - the quality of these videos with all of the little editor comments and inserts has just been significantly better lately!
@@OntarioGuy430 Agreed. It's a lot of the reason why there's such a long time between shoots and upload. I feel a little bad for Intel, since the change to AMD coincided with other internal changes. I'm all for it
10:30 its because the monitors are flat, they have 0 added eq'ing to the sound profile, you hear it as it is so you can make the audio sound good on all devices. Normally you want them laying flat and aimed so the distance to each ear vs each other is the same in an equilateral triangle
In my experience for a precision screwdriver set, I would want bits that are twice as long as what are currently in the screwdriver. I needed to go deep into those tiny holes. It'll still store fine in the screwdriver handle if need be if it's just for a few special long bois.
11:00 - Yamaha HS series are not designed to be setup horizontally, you will experience comb filtering in certain spots in your room. Best to keep them vertical, try keep tweeter at ear height. Acoustic treatment for the room will make the biggest difference now.
Generally, it is not recommended to place speakers on their side unless they are designed to be put that way. In this case, they are not designed that way. Yamaha actually calls this out on page 5 of the owner's manual.
Another video where "The PC in the 3D rendered intro (0:54) has a GPU with an RTX 30/40 series design with "AMD RADEON RX" plastered on the side of it"
AMD tech upgrade is a great series. It';s because of their community support that I switched over from an Intel system, and what a good choice that was. Intel is lagging behind!
LTT crew. Here is a prank you should do on Linus. Tell him there will be an Amd tech upgrade. Bring him to pile of all the latest and greatest of "adult streaming" gear and tell him to set it all up.
10:30 I am no audio guru, but there is a way simpler explanation: The XM4 are headphones desigend for noisy environments with a lot of bass type of noise, like engines, so their audio is colored for those conditions, making everything sound way more bassy. They are not designed for critical audio listening.
Linus flying the mini 3 in the living room gave me flashbacks to when I got my mini 3 pro and did exactly the same thing, immediately flew it straight into a wall and broke the gimbal. Never before have I been so glad that I decided to add the care plan to my purchase.
Completely correct on the tweeters. Speaking of roasting; Quite rare, sensible audio stuff on LTT ;). That being said, those stands are not an option. Speakers need to be on a solid base otherwise all of their energy will turn into movement. That needs an upgrade. Also they are rear ported, they need at least 40cm from the wall, preferably way more (any speaker does, but with front ported or closed cabinet speakers you can get away with it).
13:19 I've actually gotten some things like docks and cables from jsaux before, and they at least deliver on their promises. If I didn't have any of their products, the name would seem like some throwaway brand for a Chinese company, but I actually will choose their products if I'm picking between two non-name-brand options. P.S. I've never heard anyone pronounce them, so I've assumed it's "J-S-aux" like someone's initials, then auxiliary.
well Linus owes me a pizza , this was so entertaining . I put a pizza in the over b4 i started to watch this AND burnt the F outta my pizza :( I got so into this video 100% forgot all about it till after the video and was like " MY PIZZA !!!!" hahaha
You've got to be REALLY close to an electron beam to generate significative interference. Electromagnetic field effects fall with the square of distance and electrons move REALLY fast
10:42 I have a better answer. Because the Sony headphones are not made for music production, only for listesting to it. They have a “colored” sound. The Yamaha’s a more neutral and honest, which is what I need for music production. (Im an audio engineer) Edit: I recommend having the speakers at ear level for the optimal sweatspot. They’re supposed to the aimed at your ears.
