Bunker shots are supposed to be one of the easiest shots in golf, certainly according to the professionals.
But how do you find them?
I was with my Dad this week and his thoughts echoed the thoughts of so many golfers who come to me struggling with this part of the game.
"Danny it's ok for golf professionals, they play out of perfect sand every time, I have to deal with golf bunkers that are rock hard...I will often leave it in the bunker or blade the ball over the back of the green. Is there something I have to do differently?"
The answer is yes.
Firstly we need to make sure you have a sound bunker technique. I've something super simple I know you are going to love 😁
Then you have to assess the sand and make some small adjustments to your bunker set up depending on how hard or how soft the sand is.
I promise you it's not difficult once you know how.
In todays golf video, come and look over my shoulder as I give my Dad a bunker lesson. I cover everything you need to know, bunker strike, distance control and even long bunker shots.
Come and join me now and let me show you how to make bunker shots one of the easiest shots in golf.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RU-vid and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

We look at 3 things:
1. How to play bunker shots

Another great video. And your father is once again a great student, a role model for all of us - young and elder golfers. And you are so gifted explaining complicated things easily. But the vidoes with your father always touch me especially as a son. It's wonderful to see how respectful and loving you are with each other. And even though he never makes it a big issue, you can tell at every moment how proud your father is of what you have become. You both are an example for all fathers and sons. Very touching. I wish you and us many more such training sessions. All the best.

Danny like many others I love it when you’re teaching your Dad. It makes it 100% relatable. His chipping lesson changed my game - for the good. I can’t wait to head to the practice bunkers to try this. As a senior golfer I feel more comfortable practicing because I know it will improve my game. Thanks for helping us “oldies”. We want to keep playing.

I've said this before, but I love the videos with your Dad best of all. My Dad has been gone a long time (37 years) now, but he is still my best ever golf partner. I love the way your Dad says " Thank you, Danny". Some day, hopefully a long time from now, you will only have memories of your Dad. How fortunate you are that many of your memories will be videos that you can play whenever you want.

Great Vid Danny, everyone has respect for Pete Cowan and I’ve watched him demonstrate this set up but you have clarified it much more, especially the importance of exiting the stroke left and also letting the club just fall with gravity. Like many golfers, I usually get the ball out ok but a bit unpredictable, probably because I try to actually “hit” the sand with some force. More like this !

Hi Danny, In Dad’s lesson you have clarified a longstanding question for me. I have struggled with a) the setup over the left knee and b) exiting left from a square setup and feeling that the toe of the club is sliding under the ball. Not only is this great in bunkers, it is a treat to use around the green. Thanks Coach. from Oz

Absolutely loved this video because I have the same problems as your dad. I have huge problems with bunkers and have watched loads of videos. Most say open the face right up! Many say hit 4 inches behind the ball. Many say aim left! No one mentions the toe like you did. No one says how much sand to take or not often! Two videos have help a lot : Pete Cowan’s and this one. You both point left foot out! Very important. I am now, at last , starting to get the idea and improving. I think one problem is that the bunkers shot is SO different to other iron shots and my brain could not compute. Great work Danny. Love your dad too.

Love this, Danny. I've found a set-up for bunkers that seems to work for me, and most of it is fairly classic: hands low and center, weight on left foot, etc. I also play them with a square face, because it just seems to work from all kinds of sand. The only difference is that I have a closed stance. It's counterintuitive, but since I started doing it, my strikes are dead-center or slight toe on the face. Don't know why, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but it works for me. I have a 58º wedge with a narrow sole and low bounce for harder sand and my 52º CBX wedge with more bounce and a big old sole for the fluffy stuff.

I think a closed stance can really help, I even suggest a drill in this video explaining why ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nXnusNYElco.html

@@DanielMaude Thanks, Danny! I'll try this drill. I've done the drill where you score the sand with one line, but I'll try the "tram lines," as well. I think the closed stance for me does what your "one leg" drill does: helps keep weight on the lead side, reduces lower body movement and improves balance. So I'll give that a shot, as well. Thanks for the link! P.S. I meant to say before, I love that your Dad is in the video with you. As my dad gets older I've come to really cherish and appreciate our time together on the golf course.

Great video. The bunkers at our course vary from fluffy sand, compacted sound, and wet sand in the mornings when the sprinklers have been going. Looking forward to trying this out. Nice to see Mr Maude back on the channel as well!

The grip pointing to the belly button is a great tip, I got out every time in the last 3 rounds, before it was a lottery. A bit more practice and I may even get distance control.

A slightly open stance and open club face. Swing the toe line of stance with open club face produce a straight out. Also the open face puts spin on the ball for a softer landing.

I literally laughed out loud when Pops hit the one shot over the green at the beginning of the video. It reminded me why I quit golf a few years ago. I'm falling in love with the game again and love watching videos with you and you dad. He's a great student and you are a great coach, I'm sure the roles were reversed growing up...

Love this video! Not only I appreciate a quality video showing a universal bunker technique, (my bunkers are some lots of sand, and some (thanks to winter) and hard compacted sand), it’s great to see you working with your father. Not no mention hearing him call you Daniel, rather than Danny haha.

I remember the first ever bunker shot I played, I knew nothing about golf and it came out a treat and landed next to the whole. Then I started thinking about them... 🤣 Great tips Danny, I think my problem is, I don't have anywhere to practise bunker shots. Good tips though, I'll try and remember for next time I'm in the sandy stuff
