Moral of the story: be a nerd and a fan. Fans will want to see Lando, nerds will talk about cars and want to see Lando so the employees who can't get you to Lando will get you to the cars. Nerds recognise nerds.

God dude I NEED to see Swell go to an NHRA race now I honestly feel like she'd vibe with the drag racing crowd really well.

@@TheRandomSandwiches Non annoying questions would be stuff like "what kind of engine are you running?" "what's the top speed you've gotten your car?" "what's your fastest track record?" basically anything that's not "how much money have you put into your car?" cause people in any sport or hobby tend to hate talking about how much money they've invested or how much money they've made.

Soooo awesome. Also, PSA: anyone saying "why does SHE get to do that, why do THEY get to go under the rope" doesn't do anything except make people want to exclude you even more. It makes you sound like a sore loser, and no one wants that. Amanda saying talk to people doesn't mean go up and be like "hey can I go in the pit?" Getting access to fun, cool things is a matter of just relating to people. Any event you go to, any place you go in life - even the grocery store. Good things come to good people. Be kind, be polite, and be willing to just have a genuine conversation with someone. You'll be shocked how much it can do for you.

@@Radiophobiayes. I'm super nervous and shy, and I knew I'd have trouble getting my first job. Not only because I lack experience, but also because I would come across very unconfident in interviews. So I decided to start volunteering in a charity shop to practice talking to people. While I'm still not great at going up to someone to talk to them, I'm definitely getting better at responding when someone talks to me. It doesn't seem like a big thing to some people, but I've been able to start going to shops that don't have self checkouts. I used to avoid them as much as possible, and while I still prefer self checkouts and will go to them when I can, I don't have the same internal panic that I used to have whenever there weren't self checkouts.

People in the motorsports community don't care who you are or how much you paid to get into an event, if you show genuine interest in whatever they have on display, they will show you around and tell you the history of that car. "Just talk to people" Way back in college I was in the local EAA chapter and we did a couple pancake breakfast fly-ins, one guy came in one year in I think it was a T34, this big two seater trainer aircraft from like the 1950s. Word got around that he was giving ONE ride to a girl in the chapter, wasn't there to give rides, but he gave one to her because she went up to his airplane when he parked it and just said hi, asked him about it, etc. She just talked to people, and got a sweet once-in-a-lifetime ride in an incredible plane.

i absolutely agree with just talking to people. my family has been in motorsport for decades and my grandad would tell you that networking is one of the most important aspects of both trying to get a job in the industry and getting the best experience as a fan at events. the more friends you make, the better. especially if you’re on your own. at the australian grand prix this year, i was incredibly lucky. i was just minding my own business, watching the V8 supercars on one of the screens and i was approached by ashleigh (idk how to spell her name) and jimmy from aston martin! i got to chat with them and tour around the garage. i’ll cherish that day forever.

Even coming from driving performance cars, it's really jarring when you experience the seating position of some of these truly purpose-built racecars. And yes, it's amazing how far just chatting up the people at automotive events will get you. Assuming they're not super busy, they're always up to chat and show stuff off.

It's so cool to see your love of F1 and motorsport on the channel!! On that note I'd love to see you go to Sevenstock next year! It's a car show for rotary engines (mostly Mazda RX-7s and RX-8s, but also other Mazdas and a few non-Mazdas with engine swaps) that takes place each year in Irvine, so not a super long schlep for you. It's the largest rotary show outside Japan! Used to be at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, RIP 😢 Now that it's at the Irvine short track they open up the drag strip to anyone who comes, so you can even run your daily driver down the quarter mile! You'll get to experience the godlike sound of the 4-rotor, perhaps the only engines to ever sound better than an F1 V10. You'll also probably run into Rob Dahm, a youtuber who you should definitely know about if you don't already. It's also very cheap, $25 entry fee this year and free parking. You'll even get to speak to the folks at Mazda North America who bring out their whole new lineup and a few heritage racecars, and I bet you could get yourself tickets to auto show press days through them 👀
@molliemicrobe
@molliemicrobe 9 месяцев назад
Also I wrote this under a Goodwood FOS video the other day, figured it was very relevant: I'd love to see Sonoma raceway host F1! Much better venue than vegas imho. It's a grade 2 track that mostly needs spectator facilities to meet grade 1 requirements, it's been used many times to run Indycar and WEC, and it's a genuinely fun and challenging track provided you're running the full layout and not the Chute. Plus it's close to all the tech bros in SF/Oakland/Silicon Valley as well as the older rich people in Napa/Sonoma, so easy access for the only fans Liberty Media actually gives a hoot about. The car culture in the Bay area is awesome too, kinda like the Socal car culture was 15-20 years ago, so if the tickets aren't an absolute fortune they'd see massive attendance. The only downside I can think of is that to get to the track from the east, you need to take Highway 37, a one-lane highway through protected wetlands that gets ferociously bad traffic during NASCAR race weekends, but that could be easily solved by closing the highway for the weekend and establishing a temporary bus route to the track. If it were up to me and I *HAD* to have 3 USGPs in a year, it'd be COTA, Indianapolis, and Sonoma. We'll see how the Vegas track ends up being over the next few years, but certainly not Miami!

I'm glad you had fun, I have no interest in cars but your excitement was so infectious it had me smiling too.

I don't like watching sports, aside from very occasional esports, but I DO love hearing sports nerds talking about their favorite sport... actually I just like any nerd talking about their fixation... I am also one of these nerds...

These types of events you usually don't have to spend tons of money to enter and unfortently there aren't much info because it's intentional you just have to have confidence and smooth talking to get in most of the places my older brother and I won tickets to a Huge Car show and one day we arrived early very early like 2 hours before it opened and somehow got through security and went to check on some cars and got in them and enjoyed the time there and the cars being close to the walls is because of the weird layout of Sonoma especially that turn you have to brake very hard and early and go wide on exit depending on the grip you have

These kind of events are most often plagued by poor communication. What is obvious for the organisers (because they created it) is not remotely so for the attendee. So this is most often just taken for granted - everyone will think like us. Consequently, one may spend a fortune for the ticket and have an amazing experience whilst someone else who did not "click into the obvious fold" did not have the same experience, most often feels short changed. No one seems to want to resolve issues "seen from the outside" where the client will be coming from. They content themselves with seeing everything from the inside and from a position of knowledge, so everything is obvious ... to them of course.

I’ve been a long time watcher and life long gear head. I love this content, and I love seeing someone I enjoy watching having a fantastic time.
