I spectated an Echo who says their stats don't seem to matter

Wrote this independently and then saw you commented too, so I'll link it here as well in case you find it useful; This player is good at farming stats and playing well when unprovoked from the safety of distance/soft flanks, but they lack so much creativity in their play and risk management. They play very safe in terms of playstyle, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing unexpected. And when you don't play unexpected, you don't truly get to be a difference maker unless you just vastly outmechanic the enemy team (which this player doesn't. They're doing good, but not that good to the point where the brain can be put on autopilot and the aiming hand does all the work for them). Take more widening angles, force the enemy to have to pick-and-choose between you and the rest of your team. Set up some cheeky flanks, and don't be afraid to stay on your own if you're in a good position+timing to do so. Many times on Soldier you are in a position to create a good crossfire setup for next team fight, but you choose the safe and expected route and run back to your team. Why? Nobody on the enemy team can reliably push you or force you into a disadvantage unless you yourself make a mistake. You can always run away and waste their time, so why play safe? You're playing into the enemy team's spam advantage, and you don't utilize your own levers. Take 15:05 as an example. You chase the Pharah and get the elim (good) and pressure the Rein, and you're in a position to actually set up behind the enemy here for the next fight AND you even have your ult to push that advantage further if needed. But what ends up happening? You run back to the team because it's the "safe thing to do". Here's the thing. If you want to play safe, you will not climb. You will not test the limits of what you can get away with, and you will not find anchor points for value that your hero selection uniquely offers you, if you play them all with the same safe predictable playstyle all the time. You play Soldier like you play Echo, and how someone would play Cassidy too. Lack of creativity and unwillingness to play like a smurf, is what's holding you back from reaching your actual potential as a player. Your mechanics can support more creative and daring playstyles, but you don't get any experience with this if you don't break out of that safe shell you're currently in. Advice TLDR; If you want to improve and climb, start thinking and playing like a smurf in your rank would. Make the match hell for the enemy team. Never be predictable, and don't play it overly safe if there isn't a real reason to do so.

One minor tip I'll give, at 1:41ish when you fly out of the choke on kings row first and float back, you're putting yourself in the sightline of a moira, an illari, and a cassidy, without an easy way to get out. If one of the hitscan had looked at you earlier you could have very easily died there. It's best to not throw yourself into multiple sightlines with a movement ability, especially when it's one where people are likely to look and your team isn't playing super aggressively themselves (not really taking eyes off you, if everyone is going in there it's a lot better because you're less likely to be focused and are more likely to actually get value out of going in there) The sigma is moving forward but it's a sigma you're playing a poke comp, the timing isn't bad per se you just have a worse time diving in like that outside of a comp like winston or rein where you can really push in *with* your tank. In addition to that in this situation you're going down main, as a flanker/assassin, in a poke comp, against two hitscan a moira and a reinhardt, by yourself. You're unlikely to actually kill anybody because nobody is isolated, there's a lot of damage that easily could focus on you the only person really in an aggressive punishable position, you don't have a teammate ready to back you up and secure a kill, and there's a reinhardt that's already blocking off the direction you're attacking from anyway. None of that really works in your favor to allow you to actually do anything useful and puts you in a positon you could easily have died. A better way to play this would have been to either play more like you do on capturing first point (staying back and poking from above/off angles with easy cover to drop down to if you get shot at, and then going in when somebody is particularly vulnerable and securing a kill/forcing out a lot of resources.) or playing a flank in window and utilizing the vertical vantage points and cover of the map to let yourself put pressure on that cassidy or illari while exposing yourself a lot less, and giving you faster escape routes. Things like going around to the top left high ground and abusing your movement to stay safe and go for a kill when somebody is low or distracted.

@@LegendaryNutas an echo main, it feels far more beneficial to spam primary compared to “e” in some cases. Especially so at point blank range.

Eh, some players. I went 15-2 on first point, capped it, and my tank complained about my performance saying I was getting hard countered because they kept dying.

This reminds me of a game i played kiriko a JUNKRAT was complaining about healing meanwhile he was kissing a rein like hes a tank and i main junkrat i just wanted to punch him

Yeah kept shooting the shield way too much. If this echo wants to damage the Rein then okay but go around the shield

Just hold down Cotrol and then press C Bam! You don't see chat and you can play your game in peace. Teamwork is only needed in Masters and above anyway.

One other thing fir this player to work on is the decision making. There was a few times where they weren't sure which way to go that's why they always returned to their teammates even when the better call was to flank

I'm the submitter. We were all in voice chat together and we all communicated when we were going to use ults and our objectives, overall I still believe the Sigma played slightly too passive in some moments such as: ( 05:07 and 15:00 ) , in these two times that I specified we were winning and there was no objective reason to retreat. but I also specified in my vod post that I needed to play much better and Emongg skipped that part, I made mistakes in that vod that I usually make and that's why I sent it to the community, and I received lots of new feedback which is good.

When I started playing OW, I played a few hours of every hero in order before landing on a main. Although Echo ultimately didn't become my main, I remember Echo making me jump on my chair enthusiastically and shout out loud "THIS IS SO FUN!!!"

@@pauljmorton aww, that's adorable. I mean I play all roles and all heroes, jack of all trades but master of none landed me in diamond for tank and DPS, and plat for support. There's always time to master a new hero

Same , echo is my main and just something about her stands out for me .She is super fun to play but yess her kit requires good knowledge and using the abilities in good combination.

I was a bit puzzled at 15:05 too. Usually you don’t run away unless you’re being shot at and pressured. He was the putting on the pressure and he just gave it all up.

Hi, I'm the submitter. I did not think I was better, I submitted the vod with the hopes of improving on something, and that something ended up being *many* things to improve on. Not everyone in Overwatch is toxic, the entire team was in voice chat and nobody blamed anyone for this game, both teams played well, their team played better, and I definitely did not play as well as I could based on this feedback from Emongg which is entirely true. Also, if you read the post in the beginning you will see that the message was my analysis of the game, I included what everyone could do better in my perspective as a plat player. FYI I had the most elims in the game, the most damage and least deaths(DPS), although that does not matter in this case.

You should try sombra. Tbf I am a very new player I played for like 30 hours a few months ago but got busy so I stopped and I've just picked it up again. I was getting bored of soldier/bastion and it feels like tracer just shoots pillows but sombra has been the perfect in-between. I've gotten a few nice clips as Hanzo as well but he's kind of boring to play imo.

@@contagious_noob3651 I love playing Sombra, but Sombra (and Tracer) aren't good against teams with a lot of sustain or against healers that are peeling for each other. She's great against disorganized teams or if you have someone else diving & focus firing with you. Otherwise you shoot up their backline a little and have to disengage. Don't even get me started on Illari turret and how difficult that makes things.

@@snipingway if they are good at peeling for each other I will try to find some high ground to antagonize the support from or just go balls deep and keep the support on me for as long as possible. It's basically just virus shoot a few shots teleport repeat.

Hey, I am the submitter, good comment, just one thing; I never said that it wasn't my fault, I actually specified that I could've played much better in the post. And in that moment right there it was one of the mistakes that I made, I should've never turned into a Reinhard, I should've flanked or became Reaper.

And if that happens 80% of the time, thats 4 out of 5 team fights lost, which is plenty enough to lose the point, and your stats look trash. So you're forced to play with your team which is a failing strategy as well. There's just no winning.

it's complicated. it's primarily wins and losses but from the blizzcon discussion about the information we'll be able to see about our competitive progress in a few seasons, there is more to it. it's not stats in the sense of "even if you don't win more than you lose, if you do lots of damage/healing/whatever, you might not derank as much" because that doesn't make sense for a game like overwatch. for example, the game apparently adds a multiplier of some kind if it expects you to win or lose the next games. at least that's my understanding but I'm not an expert.

​@@edwardking9359your team is always blue while the enemy team is red. From the other teams perspective the colours are reversed. The team colour doesn't stay the same regardless of who sends the replay because it changes for each team. So no, it doesn't answer the question

​@@account-pb2dfI believe it depends on who plays defense first. If you are on defense first, you will be blue team in the replay. I'm not 100% certain though, especially for push or KotH maps.

Hi Velakor, I am the submitter, thanks for the feedback. Overall, I knew that the sigma could not push the reinhardt, in fact, I did not want that and neither did the Sigma, we were all in voice chat together, we were all positive towards one another, Emongg focused too much on the tank part but that message my analysis of the entire game, I specified what the tank could do better in my perspective of plat, I generalized what I could do better(DPS) and the healers all in my perspective of plat, knowing that Emongg would have a different and much better perspective and feedback to give. Also, don't assume people are toxic, I know the Overwatch community is quite toxic but not everyone is, nobody blamed anyone for this loss, if anything I blamed myself as you can see in the message post I asked Emongg for feedback because I had much to improve on.

If you read through this comment section you will find some toxic people but also some helpful people, just submit it and be fearless, focus on improving. Lots of the "toxic" people that you will find are not brave enough to submit theirs!

Echo makes noise when she moves though

Was about to say the same. She might not make typical footsteps but she is loud as heck. She makes a whirring winding noise while moving that is amplified when she uses her flight. Inexperienced players might not notice it, I barely notice it when I play her until I make a bold move and wonder how the enemy DPS caught on to me. Only for the killcam to reveal how freaking loud I was from their perspective. The only character in OverWatch who is truly silent and tilts the heck out of me when he goes for a successful right-click flank or rotates to an off-angle defense position is Zenyatta. Because no one heard him lol. The trick with Echo and Pharah is that they are both silent while falling but not while walking or boosting. I'm going to agree with you that Echo is relatively quieter than other Overwatch cast members. But if you're a sniper standing back from the fight you will have relatively little trouble hearing her approach.
