My dyslexia or whatever made me read the title as "I speedrun catfishing..." and I can't stop thinking about it now

I loved this game as a kid. I remember watching countless playthroughs of it.

This game remains one of my comforts because of how simple and cutesy it is, this was a cool speedrun to watch

I remember playing this game a long time ago on one of those flash game websites. I remember boats weren't a thing, and the goal was to get a good enough rod to get your wife or sister off of an island on the other end of the lake.

I love at the end where he literally fed the kingfishes their queen.

There was a flash game a lot like this that used a lot of the exact same graphics for the fish. You had to attempt to save your friend on an island across the sea using your fishing pole. The color scheme was a bit more somber, greys and blues, but the fish were exactly the same as the ones showed here. Does anyone know the name of this game? I would absolutely love to see if it was preserved and play out again.

EDIT: I found it! There's an old flash game called Fishing Girl, which is basically just an early version of this! Boy, I hope LunaDrift gave Cat5Games the rights to all those assets they definitely took directly from Fishing Girl... This is weird... I distinctly remember a game with a similar appearance to this, but definitely wasn't this. The lures in particular are really jumping out to me, but I swear this wasn't the game they were in. Anyone know anything about that?

The version of this game that I played was on Sports Illustrated Kids back when they had flash games. It had some weird cube like creature with limbs and a face instead of a cat. It didn't have quests like this, just these buoys that kept going further and further where you could also purchase better rods using the money you earned from catching fish. Fish couldn't be damaged aside from bigger fish possibly eating smaller ones you'd already caught, thus taking out your catch and your bait in one go. Smaller fish weren't used for bait, as it was just an entirely different thing all together and they'd be sold immediately. Overall the game I played wasn't as polished as this version, but I'm glad I played it when I could.

I would actually enjoy watching you play this game normally

I love Cat Goes Fishing. It's casual and doesn't take much PC power. If you play a comp game/game with long queues, this game is perfect to waste time.

Idea for speedrun strategy in realistic mode: There is a medium sized fish called cavin right below the shore. If you know how to navigate the darkness you can get there and get a 78k fish, and like tons of exp in 2 minutes BUT you need to unlock the flick ability first that allows you to move the hook, by making a grumper take your hook to the seabed breaking your rod. that can't be done in classical mod. if you do that I think you can get to level 10 extremely fast but it requires a lot of skill and many tries

Isn't there a bait guard attachment upgrade for the fishing rods? That upgrade would have definitely helped the speed run tbh. I played this game like 5 years ago so I'm not sure when you'd get that upgrade so I could be wrong

Fun fact: fish skin is always covered in slime with antibacterial properties. Slime of some species is toxic to fend off predators.
