My dad is an interstate truck driver, he has a fridge/freezer combo in his truck. We do meal planning and prep. I shop, cook and pack his crib bags. He has cupboard staples, fresh fruit, evening meals, cereal, sandwiches and other sandwich fillings that are prepared as well as snacks. My dad doesn’t eat takeaway as in fast food, but his does use a service station to replenish his essentials like bread, milk for breakfast or a cuppa which are expensive. He does allocate money each month as a work allowance, This money covers. meals, uniforms, boots, anything relating to him personally it’s money he can use while he is away from the home. We call it Guilt free, He doesn’t always use it. But it’s nice to know he regularly has access to money should he need or want to spend it.
Love the nails, Ira, they look stunning! This is a really great example of how to break down a budget, enjoyed watching this a lot. All of your suggestions are really good, and I enjoyed your suggestions for sinking funds in particular. The only thing I would touch base on is the takeaway issue, which is definitely high, but understandable. From knowing long-haul drivers in different roles (goods transport drivers, engineers, etc), some of them are frequently driving overnight and access to a microwave (as suggested in another comment) isn't always guaranteed. They are often reliant on service stops for hot meals and the resources to reheat their own food aren't always available. This often leaves fast food restaurants as the sole option, especially during winter night drives, and this produces the associated costs. It's a stacked deck and it's working against them. Packed lunch is definitely a good plan for the daytime and available food is better than no food, completely agree there, but if it's late, cold and they need something to eat and have nothing else available, it's really easy to see how this occurs. A lot of the time, companies don't cover costs towards food; they will only cover the hours worked and if strictly necessary hotels for an overnight stay at most. The drivers also aren't necessarily always compensated for hours worked insofar as driving both directions; it depends upon the company and the agreement with the worker in question, and whether they have further work to undertake at the end of the journey such as moving goods or completing engineering work. I think maybe if schedules are available ahead of time for driving jobs (this is not always the case), some planning could be done to mitigate the takeaway amount / alternatives to keep food warm could be looked into, certainly, but just wanted to offer another perspective.
I understand what you saying about takeaways sadly i am an ort truck driver otr=over the road. And packed lunch is not always and option i do what i can. Sadly with family at home included that is very reasonable
Great video as always Bestie, I was wondering whether the takeaway is for the dad as he is a long distance lorry driver. He needs to invest in a fridge or ice chest and pack his food for the day. Love the matching earrings and nails. 💙
My dad is a truck driver hes away from home from monday to friday packed lunches wont stay fresh that long so he has packed lunch first day or 2 then has to get food from services so i understand the amount for takeaways xx
The takeaway amount could be largely what the truck driver husband spends whilst driving long haul trips on the roads. After hours behind the wheel, he probably needs hot, substantial food to keep himself going. If that is the case, the takeaway amount could be difficult to cut down.💙
Great idea to do a summer holidays fund. Most people do 2 holidays a year😮, most people I know might go camping in the summer or maybe a winter holiday but not many vacations but it’s expensive to fly from Canada almost anywhere I guess. Great suggestions. 💙
Brilliant Ira!! I find the way that you consider some spending money per person and individual lifestyles very refreshing and an interesting addition to a budget. While you say £40 per month isnt much, you also say £80 per month = £1000 per year! Anyone would be pleased with a wage increase ( tax free) of that amount! So, if we can find a further 40 - folks could get a 'wage rise' in effect! Love the nail varnish - its the colour im looking for. Where is it from please? Ta!
I personally prefer calculating using a 5 week month because I like to have this 100 euro as a buffer to build my one month ahead passively. 4 weeks is fine, just be aware that 5 week months exist and don't overextend your finances that those extra bits pose issues. BTW, that nail colour looks so good on you. It really compliments your skin tone and hair colour.
Dietary requirements yet they have takeaway 9 times a month I think they are lying personally I get 20 a week for food and that’s it crazy but if I can manage on that for 1 person then surely 80 a week for 4 people would. Be enough and then maybe one takeout a week instead off 9 a month
Great video. Based on the information you had, I think you gave some really good suggestions. I would want more of an emergency fund, so I would cut something out of the sinking funds. I like that there is room to tweak the budget based on what their priorities are. Beautiful nails and earrings!💙💙
