I Spent $100 on The Best Dead Steam Games

Today Rye Games spends over $100 on some of Steam's weirdest, oldest, most broken dead games. These games were suggested by you guys and the majority are older FPS games, but there's also War of rights, a civil sim & OBEY which is a game I can't fully explain. These games weren't necessarily survival games, or puzzle games or even MMO's but they all had one thing in common and that's a small community. If you encounter any of the people included in this video please be respectful.

I'm the logistical truck driver in darkest hour driving you off the map. i remember being confused why this person wanted to be in my truck, its not an uber, I'm busy building stuff and had to go back to load up more supply points. you can even see in chat i said "you don't want to go with me". i highly recommend playing during peak hours especially on the weekends when the largest player base is on along with the most motivated players.

errr so what does that game offer over Hell Let Loose - the obvious contemporary comparison with stuff like logistics, vehicles, command and control etc.
@dblancha6
@dblancha6 4 месяца назад
@@johnbigelson7471 DH is very out dated as far as graphics and player movement there are many negatives about the game but where it shines is the vast amount of content and unique game play quirks. If you have an interest in comparisons with Hell Let Loose I've made some here. Taking a look at Hell Let Loose it seems to have some kind of cosmetic dress up system and XP grind to unlock stuff. in RO Darkest Hour you wear the uniform of your class appropriate to the time period and location the battle takes place along with weapons correct for that battle and role you pick. HLL seems to have only 3 factions, DH has British, Americans, Germans, Polish, Russia, and a few more along with sub factions like playing as the Volkssturm, with limited ammunition and crudely built guns. DH has many more vehicles and types of them from jeeps to open top tank destroyers, vehicles have component damage like engine fires, tracks turret rings and sight telescopes can be taken out. DH has more complex hit models for players. guns can be shot out of your hand, non lethal hits to the head knock off helmets, shots to the legs cause you to drop to prone and takes a bit of time before you can run. DH has hundreds of maps HLL looks like it has 7. sorry for the long post, try the game out, check for peek player hours. its not the best game ever but nothing modern has the amount of map variety and content.

@millitron3666 4 месяца назад
@@johnbigelson7471 More realistic vehicles; armor angling and range actually matters. Some vehicles get smoke, white phosphorous, or canister shells. Way more kinds of vehicles, like dozens. Bazookas and panzershreks can be reloaded by teammates; pretty cool to be an actual AT team like that scene in Band of Brothers where they kill the Stug. Squad leaders can use radiomen as mobile radios. You can brace your gun on things to stop weapon sway, which makes the game more about positioning and intelligence, and less about raw physical FPS skill. Maybe I just suck at HLL, but there seems like way less walking and more fighting/fun. I prefer the way old graphics too; I find HLL -too- detailed, it's hard to see things to me.
@johnbigelson7471
@johnbigelson7471 4 месяца назад
@@millitron3666 I can definitely agree with that last criticism- at times HLL (and most modern FPS also) feel like more of pixel hunt than anything else. It's the problem with modern realistic graphics but not realistic sensory input (the resolution and field of view of our eyes)..

I was (and still am) so sad about BC2 servers being shutdown. Such a let down from EA. There were still people playing when they close it, it's not like the game died, but still went ahead and closed it because it got too old to their liking, and they want people to buy their newer games I guess. But BC2 is where I met a lot of my friends that remain to this day, this is what I built my youtube and twitch channel around, it litterally made me who I am today. I'm glad there is at least Project Rome. I've been so bummed out by BC2 servers being gone that I didn't even look into it yet, but the urge to play is coming back and I'll definitely be checking it out. Have over 10k hours in BC2 and I've enjoyed every single minute. I am happy to see BC2 being mentioned, but it also saddens me that is now considered a dead game. Glad to see that you enjoyed it though!

Thanks for playing War Trigger(Red Crucible) sm! I had great memories playing this game when I was a little boy. This is one of those "My Uncle is works at this [company]" but really he developed this game from the beginning. I'll share this video with him :D. Never would I have imagined or seen Red Crucible on a video like this. Favorite memory of this game was when there was a wall glitch exploit when you can clip into walls by looking up into the sky, crouch a few times, and switch from first person to third person spam. (Best map is the ship map btw)

You just brought up core memories for me back in early 2003-2009 when Xbox Live just came out and games were notorious for having insane amount of glitches/exploits. The boys and I would spend hours hitting super jumps and going out side of the map in Halo 2. Wall peeking, the original dropshot when it was a glitch, & the lag trick with the stand-by button on old routers. Plus every other glitch in almost every multiplayer game back then. Thanks ❤

I used to play war trigger. Still play it every once in a while. It was huge back when it was red crucible 2. The reason it died so quick was the pay to win aspect and how easy it was to spawn camp and just use infinite claymores around every corner. You can alt look in the game so you can be completely behind a wall and kill people by strafing left and right. It used to be very pay to win as premium guns had very fast ttk’s. But there was a huge wave of cheaters around the 2018 era before it rebranded to war trigger 2 and 3. Thanks for checking out one of the games i used to play growing up! I hope the new version coming out can bring back some nastalgia

You should continue this kind of series when possible. I first started playing PC games in 2002 and have so many fond memories of playing MOHAA, COD, Battlefield 1942, CS, Unreal Tournament, and the list goes on. Like you said, it would be nice to restore some of these games with bug fixes and improvements and big influencers like you could host a game for everything to hop on or simply create a couple of servers for a few weeks for people to try out some of these old gems.

There was this game on the Microsoft store a long time ago, around 2015 or 16 (when i started playing i think it came out before then) from what I can remember, it was a fps shooter game and it was sorta like call of duty and other r6 mixed together but just a lot worse, It was called "Modern Combat 5: Blackout" I just remember being younger and having gotten my first ever computer and that was one of the first games I ever played. I think it'd be cool to see a video on it considering I've never heard anyone ever talk about it. Kinda felt like I was the only one who played it. Red Orchestra / Darkest Hour is a piece of art of a game. It started already good and got better with patches over the years. It has a ton of maps a good variety of (historical) weapons. It is outdated in graphics, but it should be the game that nowadays new WW2 games should be basing their games off. It has historical accuracy and good playability in the same game.

I'll have a look at your channel in a second, but since you mentioned that you haven't played any Battlefield games before trying out Bad Company 2, I felt I should say something. I don't see it happening in your clip, so consider using the destruction capabilities of the Frostbite engine. In BF:BC2 you can level entire buildings, killing anyone inside, with C4, RPGs, tanks, and the like. It's great fun. You can also of course make strategic changes to said buildings (holes, and what not). The amount of destruction varies between the Battlefield games. It all started in the first Bad Company game, though. And for some reason, destruction has been toned down quite a bit in the latest iteration, Battlefield 2042. It's still good, though, even if its reputation was tanked by the really bad state of the game at launch.

Another thing, my clan is the oldest "active" Brazilian clan. The injustice the developer did to us is shameful. Several promises and all broken. I swore that in 2018 RC2 would return, and what we saw was what was shown on video. There have been no updates or any services related to the significant number of hackers. Those who love the game remain firm, even with almost zero players.

War Trigger?! Wasn't it Red Crucible 2? I used to play that game in my childhood, remembering how I camped spawn with the Apache.

at 20:26 he's saying get the hang of the "logi" aka the logistics - in games like these it refers to the resources you have to build encampments like mortars or machinegun bunkers or anti tank stations.

If you like Bad Company 2, maybe you should try Battlefield 2142, my favourite BF game. It's futuristic, with mecha/battle walkers, hover tanks, and all sorts of nice things. The Titan mode is great. Each team has a huge air fortress (Titan), and the goal is to blow up the other team's Titan. You do that by capturing+holding missile silos spread over the map. These then fire missiles at the enemy titan, which slowly remove the energy shield around it. When the shield is gone, you can either continue holding the silos, to whittle down the hit points of the titan, or get on board it, blow up some stations, and finally the power core. So the game becomes a series of choices: take silos, defend them, defend your titan when the force field/energy shield is depleted, attack the enemy titan ... Since there are several ways to blow up the titan, and making a direct push on to the enemy titan can be a very fast method to win, games can turn around FAST. A team that was behind, and hadn't even broken through the enemy shield, can win by a quick attack if the enemy is focusing all their strength on attacking a well-defended titan. Just like BF:BC2, there are community servers.

Sadly sweatlords like Sholah are the reason the player base is so small right now, people just do not wanna be target practice for such players who play bad company for 12 hours a day.

Rye, I'm not sure but you may have misunderstood the devs response about War Trigger. I paused it and read it, and it said, "No South American server. For south Americans, you would go through other servers for now but this summer there will be all new servers and yes, south American. This will happen with the launch of the new war trigger game." Now, it is possible the dev meant they would be spinning up South American servers and the older games may have access to them as well. Just my 2 cents. It is possible that you misunderstood....but, probably not. JUST TRYING TO KEEP THE HOPE ALIVE FOR OUR FRIENDS DOWN SOUTH!

Thanks for shining a light on Bad Company 2. I never got the chance to play it myself, but I heard it's one of the best Battlefield titles out there. And I love these restauration projects, played a bunch of Battlefield 2 a few years ago, reliving some fond teenage memories of the first FPS I ever played online.

Games in the 2000s had better communities that still persist today, so many of the older games i played 20 years ago are still going strong. TotalA for example, was released in the late 90s and was only rivalled by Starcraft. The devs were bought out and saw where the new company was headed, one of them released the entire source code to the community, because of that, a game made in the 90s still gets content and unit updates. Compare that to triple AAA devs that want you to buy basically the same piece of software with different colours and UI, every bloody year.
