This is such great work. Youre one of the few youtubers who have come to SA and truly understand it with nuance. I dont like the videos that paint SA as some black utopia which a lot of Western youtubers do. As a black South African this is demeaning and shows how out of touch their experiences with the real lived experience of the majority of South Africans on the ground are. The dollar and pound obviously affords certain privileges that average South Africans could only dream of and thus their experience of the country is shaped by the false reality that is granted by their Western privilege. On the other hand, other youtubers (mostly white) love using SA as poverty p*rn and exploit our sometimes harsh living conditions and crime rate to push a narrative about a formerly "functional" white supremacist country that is now falling into tatters because of black rule. That is also very demeaning. Thank you for using your background knowledge and expertise to actually paint a grounded, well-balanced view of the country. Siyabonga.

I’m a Kenyan and the level of infrastructure development across South Africa 🇿🇦 never ceases to amaze me! SA is also endowed with beautiful and scenic landscapes that leaves you in awe while you’re traversing through the country! I know enough South Africans in the UK who did everything they could do to secure citizenship. Most South Africans are too afraid to make a move because of years of OPPRESSION. Just a quick note: If you're seeing milky water, don't worry-this doesn't indicate contamination. In South Africa, our water quality is very high. The milky appearance is usually due to tiny air bubbles, often caused by changes in water pressure after an outage. If you let the water sit for a minute, it will clear up on its own.

South Africa is not the most unequal country in the world. We are probably the most misunderstood though. Those squatter camps you are seeing is not the reality. People move from one province to the other demanding services. They want houses. They want jobs. They get jobs but don't improve their lives. They want pity. How can you work for 20 years earning a salary, regardless of how little, and still live in the same shack? Eventually they do get the houses they demand, then sell or rent them out. Move to another shack. Wash and repeat. This all while they have a decent house in whatever province they come from. The scam culture in this country is ridiculous.

Milky water after maintenance is normal. It's air dissolved in the water that makes it milky as the air comes out of being dissolved when the pressure drops back to atmospheric pressure. Leave that water for 30-60 seconds and all the air comes out and the water is clear again. Go back to drinking tap water in Johannesburg. No need to waste money and bugger up the environment with all the bottles. Great video. Excellent insights from a "visitor". You got the just of things spot on.
@Pixman14
@Pixman14 23 дня назад
You can still drink that tap water even if its milky. Its perfectly fine and clears up within seconds in your cup. It usually does that when there has been no water in the reservoirs and the pressure to push water to homes has been increased causing the pipes to have more air in them which then turns the water to look like that. Hope im making sense

A lot of the current GINI coefficient is due to white youngster's exclusion from jobs in South Africa . Many have taken up jobs all over the world and are hopping back and forth , 6 months in 6 months out .They are often "killing it" in the income levels . Ironically they have converted their "exclusion" to their great advantage . I know farmers , hair dressers , IT professionals , HR practitioners and any career you can think of . Your video is more informative than most. However you miss a huge amount of information to do with the development of both the settlers and the indigenous peoples. Africans had no system of education and no method of recording their lives. That doesn't mean that they lack the ability. They where caught in a tribal system that brutalized women and lesser tribes and kept the power of forward movement locked up in an archaic mindset. That had nothing to do with the settlers. This caused a major gap between the settlers and Africans. (Most unequal is more complicated than your click-bait headline intimates). On the other hand the settlers looked after themselves as they had their own existential drama. Some where persecuted in Europe and others wanted better opportunities. In their own limited vision the they did not accept and share their knowledge in a compassionate manner. And then there are all the dynamics of of the Colonial Expansion and the extraction of wealth. That is a long and and complex story by itself. The big money developed the country but also dominated and controlled all aspects of industry. Superior education from the UK and Europe created a big advantage as well as disproportionate superior attitudes. The evaluation system was based on European values alone and had no space for African wisdom. The massive growth and development of Southern Africa from a totally rural environment into a developing country rolled over many things.

Not exactly. European ethnicities and kingdoms, such as Prussian’s, were subsumed into greater Kingdoms like Germany. Up to this day, people in Cornwall consider themselves different from the English and Sicilians don’t consider themselves Italian. Africans need to stop being so sensitive about history - it happened to everyone at some point but some countries, 60 years after independence are still blaming colonialism.

Inequality root cause is by masive migration from african people to the south looking for a better life. A city can spring up over night. South Africa's borders are poreus.With influx of peple comes drugs, human traficking, fake branded goods, diseases etc. South Africa simply cannot accomodate the rest of Africa due to a limitation of resources such as water etc.

@@cally2011 A black middle class is the only evidence that capitalism is robust, healthy and democratic in SA - which was 1994 promise. Without it, capital order is lethargic, lacks legitimacy and risks violent revolt/uprising - ask the European peasants. I know better than most that black middle-class gains are not good for the majority. That's why I favour the 1950s policies of the ANC. As far as capitalism goes, JHB proves class mobility is certainly possible outside race. CPT literally fails at this. This is such great work. Youre one of the few youtubers who have come to SA and truly understand it with nuance. I dont like the videos that paint SA as some black utopia which a lot of Western youtubers do. As a black South Africans this is demeaning and shows how out of touch their experiences with the real lived experience of the majority of South Africans on the ground are. Siyabonga.
