Idk why some people have so many negative comments? Joe has great knowledge and skills in not only repairing small engines but also in how he takes the time to present and show us pretty much step by step on how to do repairs! Im sure he could very well be working at any shop doing repairs but why should he? Joe seem to enjoy what hes doing and im sure his financial situation is just fine since hes able to fund and buy new projects! And please leave his awesome wife outta of all the negative comments! Joe keep us entertained please and wanna let you know big fan here in Sudbury, Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

Hi Joe. A few videos back in this series, I linked a video where a guy doing crankcase pressure testing on a boggy 95 cr250 engine. He claimed that the manual stated that the power valve shafts going down through the cylinder into the cases where you showed us how carefully you made sure they connected properly, must be coated in a special molybdenum grease before reinstallation. His pressure integrity test was failing (not holding pressure) until he removed those power valve shafts parts and coated them in the moly grease. After greasing those parts up with the Molybdenum grease and reinstalling them, his crankcase pressure test held pressure and the bog went away. Again, he claimed that there is something in the factory service manual about this. He also claimed in his video that all the 95 cr250 engines have this issue if those power valve shafts parts aren't coated in the moly grease.

$200 sucks, but CDI does sound like the next thing to try. I had a similar problem on a different bike but it had basically the same symptoms - sputtering (rich) when it got too hot. I had an aftermarket CDI that worked great for 6 years but I went back to OEM and it fixed it. You probably already know, but that silencer also sounds like there's no packing in it (I know from experience, lol). I doubt it's causing the problem, but it can affect the jetting (air/fuel mixture).

I hate money pit projects like this. Makes you want to throw all your wrenches through the wall and regret having ever taken on the project in the first place. There's no need to leave negative comments or critiques. It's not a simple repair. That's all. Everyone has encountered at super complicated job that's really hard to diagnose & repair. I hate it when repairs come to trial and error where you have to start throwing parts at it to find the solution. I hope that CGI takes care of the problem so you can cut your losses on this project and never have to lay eyes on that bike ever again.

I don't know what happened here. Between pressure washing sandblasting and hot tanking everything was brilliantly shiny. By the time we were at this stage the most you'd ever need to do is wipe it off with a clean shop rag. I don't know everyone's different and still interesting to watch thanks for the video.

Just a tip: on the Hondas of the 90s there is an easier way to get the carb in and out. Take the seat off, loosen the rear clamp where the airbox connects to the carb. Take out the bottom bolts on the subframe. The whole subframe/airbox/rear fender/numberplate assembly will tip upward, pulling the airbox boot away from the carb, giving you more room to wiggle the carb out or into place.

Hey Joe, at the 4:40 mark you installed the crank to crank seal collar. It looks like that collar had a pretty significant groove worn into it. I recommend replacing that collar. Also, if the collar is worn on the outside, it might be worn or damaged on the inside to the crank shaft. I bet you are getting an air leak at that collar-to-seal or collar-to-crank-shaft. The grease u applied probably created an okay seal and starting getting worse as you drove it until thr grease was gone. Just my .02 Love the videos! And kudos to Aaron the welder! Glad to see us Michigan boys representing! Also, Motosport has a collar kit that adds orings to the inside of the collar to crank shaft seal point that might help.

Check the HT lead,I had a bog on an old KX250…it had a captive HT joined into the coil, the lead had corroded within…so I angle ground the top plastic on the coil,to expose the joint for the HT lead.Mine mainly bogged on wide throttle and when it was warm/hot…basically it was ‘breaking down’ under load…When I stripped the lead,I could see the corrosion…new lead, bogged up the top of the coil again, and BOOM…virtually free fix.I went through ALL the other stuff before doing this…carb, etc…good luck.

You are getting there, sounding much better and smoke is so much less. I had a CR250R early 80s, amazing bike. I remember similar issues, mostly fuel quality related. Heat is probably changing the air mixture, who knows. When testing these bikes timing & electrics CDI must test one of the first things. Failing more than they used to

I’ve had one that was flooding when the needle valve and seat weren’t mating properly. Confirmed the problem by riding with the petcock turned off. The bogging cleared up when the fuel level in the bowl got lower.

Like watching your videos. Very impressive how you figure the problems out on these bikes. Just curious how you learned all this. I mean there is nothing you can’t figure out or fix. Keep up the videos. Good job.

Hey Joe try retarting the ignition. If it doesn't help put your meter on your coil and your CDI and heat them up with your heat gun to check and see if their breaking down. And check your voltage off your stator cold and hot. Pull your radiator cap and see if your adding any pressure from your cylinder into the radiator once it heats up. Maybe that will help. One thing I noticed on that piston you put on it's got some wear marks that could mean your a little bit oval shaped and your loosing your vacuum in the crank when it heats up but hard to tell over them cam

That was really cool Aaron did it for free and his work looked ok, perhaps he was worried it still might leak given cast aluminum is fickle to weld.. either way if you ever need any Ail welding done you found the right guy 👍👍 such a cool looking bike, was it worth repairing probably not but such a nostalgic bike, it was worth it just to get a little more out of it 👍👏 thanks Joe

Damn Joe, that's a tough one. Heading into the electronics is the way to go I think. I spent my working career chasing electronics that only fail when hot. I'd do CDI 1st and then stator. Don't forget you can heat them with a heat gun in the shop while testing or cool them with freeze spray. ALSO, it just as easily could be a crimp connector wire corroded or pulled loose inside or a wire corroded under the cladding. If you can figure a way to use the heat gun with the bike running in the shop would be helpful. The problem is knowing when it's failed while testing on the stand. Definitely going to send some business to Bulldog Welding if I need any aluminum done. That guy is cool and savvy. Fingers crossed for you. You'll win this battle.

The 1995 CR 250 was a good year model. Good job not giving up on the project. I hope you get what you put into it back out if you sell it.

Thanks for another awesome video Joe, I’d like to request that even though it’s consuming quite a bit more of your time than usual please don’t give up yet, that bike for some reason is awesomely appealing to the eyes and I think you’re closer to victory than you think, keep that bulldog grip on getting it done and this bike probably will be one too add to your personal collection, stay positive and look past the negatives and it’ll all come to ahead in the long run…

That is really cool... Nicely done Aaron. I can't believe how many cracks that case had in it, but I'm glad you were able to save it, and you got goodies too 😎 Unfortunately it still doesn't run right. At this point I would order both the CDI and the Stator. Unless there is a small crack that somehow didn't get detected, which I highly doubt, you know that the crankcase is sealed, so those will be the last big parts to try. If it was a short somewhere, it wouldn't follow the exact same pattern every time, and it also wouldn't run fine just the first couple minutes and then crap out so that really only leaves the CDI and Stator. It has really good spark when it's cranked over, but who knows what the spark looks like at part or full throttle. It would be interesting if there was a way to see the spark when you are riding it.

I instantly observed the machine not running rite. The jetting you chose to “run” was your mistake and once you bump up the pilot it will be fine. Good luck

Well that sucks...so much work and to still have a Gremlin is frustrating...when you took off while it was cold I was like YES, he got it! I bet you're leaning the right direction in the diagnosis but I'd put the original size jet in it as well and check for air leaks in the filter box.
