Idk man I'm pretty dumb and geras is fun and really easy once you understand how he works. I promise you if you take maybe 4 hours to mess around with his moves and how the DB3 works. Ez life.
Characters like Quan Chi and Geras take strategy and good spacing. Quan is actually top 10 in the game, but he is difficult to master. Characters like Johnny are just brain dead. Johnny's whole strategy is just approach the opponent and press buttons because his buttons are safe and he has great recovery. I actually like the setup characters like Geras and Quan. You feel like a genius when all of the setups start working
@SUKUNA294 it's really just whatever is more comfortable to you, some people prefer the d-pad, others prefer the stick, although it's easier to see what you are doing with the d-pad
Spot on. On top of the fact their health goes so fast, if u get caught with a good combo string to begin with ur at a huge disadvantage so it hard to mix with them. I do like playing with them though cuz once u get a little hang of how to use em their damage is insane.
I agree, i also think he needs a health buff. Characters like Li Mei, Mileena, Ashrah etc can do the same or more damage than Geras and their health is not touched....
What do you guys think about Geras currently? I didnt like him at first but now I think he is going to be one of my mains. Sure he is hard and underrated but the potential is there!
My little brother has been watching you for awhile. But these progression videos got me hooked bro, great content. Can’t wait to see you eventually go through other characters. Even if you don’t do the whole cast
I main 5-ish characters on every mk game and i can play the rest of the cast normally to bad-ish. And i can confirm that with almost 1000 h in the game that Geras is one of the hardest characters in mk1
I main Geras and the highest I've gotten is God rank with semi-consistent play. What I've found is that spacing and timing is key, spacing even more so than timing in a lot of cases because you can bait or even trick your appointment by using the tools you have. Geras isn't a jump in and go sort of character he's very much a more passive character in which you wait for your opponent to get impatient or mess up and then you punish them. This is how I play him in MK1.
I don't want to sound rude or offensive. I genuinely think NRS is trying to lean more towards a neutral based game instead of a more rushdown focused one that MKX was, and a good chunk of the player base isn't adjusting well
I reached my full capacity with Geraz spend 6 months with him, I know all the moves but making sure you have 3 hourglass all the time becomes very hard, especially when anyone who sees you play geraz their main goal is to go after you, and make sure you don’t . But is nice love this character, learning hermac now,
Geras can be very good but you have to be consistent landing Lao/Motaro time stop combos and know how to use other abilities to like the 2 bar combo break and how to setup the clone for hard to block situations.
@@MadDoggGames love to see it. I tried to learn Geras after watching demoralizer but I just cant do the "kidnap cancels " consistent enough especially online
Geras is one of my mains u gota be patient and understand his moves and when to use it u can use motaro kung lao tech teleport cancels hourglass charge for armor break and health regain command grab for pokes instead of foward square to be unpredictable enhanced clone which does waste 2 bars can u can use mid combo or for unblockable set up and wait for openings to punish or poke command grab instead of trying to strike since his moves are on the slower side be patient and consistent Geras is amazing in the right hands
It’s just that the input/output ratio for most of the roster is vastly different. It’s much easier to play other characters and get a lot more mileage out of them for the work you have to put in… Johnny has every single tool in the game you could ask for besides a projectile… Best movement in the game, stagger pressure, plus frames out the ass, launching overhead/low mix, full screen armoured punish with shadow kick, an install with star power, command dash that is projectile invulnerable, high combo damage with nut punch enders for Oki, best jump ins in the game, advancing mids with good recovery, etc… When you play a character like Geras, you understand how privileged some of the other characters on the roster are for absolutely no reason… The effort required doesn’t match the payoff. You’d expect that a character that is harder to pilot would yield more in terms of advantages BECAUSE they require more effort to use effectively… But it feel like the exact opposite for MK1… Ermac has some of the most complicated combos with all of his cancels, but his combo scaling is assbutter. Nitara has 900 HP with crazy movement, but her low/overhead mix is mad punishable on block. Geras has a completely unique playstyle revolving around charging his hourglass and getting timestop cancels with Motaro teleport, but has some of the worst normals in the game… Why would I play these interesting unique characters when I could just spam strings with Peacemaker or Johnny and stay safe?
tip for Mataro Mataro can start the fatal blow he can do Mataro fatal blow punch. Geras fatal blow is slow but is Mataro fater tips for Geras Geras breaker u have to let opponent hit you u have to be hit because it frezze them. if u do it when ur falling down and opponent is not hitting you he wont frezze. and you dont want to be to high as well doing it because opponent like Mileena high kick she she has her leg out but her body is too far to be hit by the frezze. the breakers not a normal breaker u have to hit the opponent with the breaker frezze move treat it like a sand burst as if you where try to hit your opponent with it
in my opinion smoke is the hardest to learn, especially on lan tourneys. as a smoke main he has sm gaps and you have to be on pin point accuracy with the cancels otherwise you’re predictable abt extremely punishable
Yeah that tick throw has bailed me out so many times, but it is better to do F1 then command grab because the only way to beat that is to armor through. Also I think motaro is a better kameo for him because he helps him out against zoning (reflect and teleport) and also makes his strings +13 on block (tail shot).
I’m currently learning gears and feel like you really gotta rely on the kameos to get offense started. Unlike other characters where the kameos just attribute to the characters existing offense. I think you should try havik next though cuz alongside gears I believe he has some of most interesting moves and mechanics in the game.
yeah that is true, that is why i love Motaro because he can get that turn back and its a low hitting projectile, so it will force opponents to duck. Which then limits their movement. Im currently playing Sindel and i sticked with him for that reason.
Oh my god you couldnt have timed it better, mk1 is my first time properly getting into the game and trying to learn. I love geras hes such a cool guy, but its reassuring to knoe im not the only one struggling to play with him, was thinking it was just me.
Please make a video about kung lao. I have always been a kung lao main in mostly Mk9 and Mk 11 (skiped MkX) And never have i ever flop this hard trying to play kung lao in mk1 Most of my fav kung lao moves mk1 kung lao does not have The kameo i mostly use is seerna or the red robot person or yellow. And learning kung lao from yt is a pain. But since you are a chararter loyilst and explain every that you do. It would really help me if you make a kung lao video.
I think next character you try out should be Shang Tsung. I'm curious how his stance switch can enhance combos. Kenshi also has a stance switching mechanic.
the devs knew what they were doing with geras. gave him good damage but made it damn near impossible to open people up with so you have to play lame to play him efficiently
To save everyone thirty minutes, geras is somewhat hard to learn. When there are sweats who play easy characters who require bare minimum skill such as Johnny raiden, or scorpion no one will invest time in to characters who take longer to master
I mean, It dont make sense why you said "to save 30 everyone mins." If the point of the video is to see WHY he is hard to learn. I think we all knew he already was. A lot of these things are because of poor balancing choices from the devs. But regardless, everyone wanted to see visuals and breakdown of these tools.
I think you're a bit too harsh on this character just because he isn't easy to use like Johnny. Geras takes practice and skill, which is why he feels low tier in your hands because he isn't simple and effective. Put him in the right hands and he shoots up. Could he use some buffs? Sure, but you make him sound like a bad character when in reality, you just fail to understand what's required to play him.
@@Tac0b3llyfat I wouldn’t say it’s fully punishable. It can be poked out off but that’s the mind game. You can simply not do it and instead do a combo string. Most of the time the opponent will wait because the punish isn’t that great to go for. They can also armor through it as well but that’s more resources spent. Motaro gains his charge fast so it will be no point. Unless you can get a combo off the armor but if I block it then way too much risk. Same with the teleport. Sure I can do risky options just so I can teleport, but sometimes the opponent sees I did something negative and immediately does a string. This allows me to punish their whiff. But if they stayed blocked and I teleport, then I get punished. It’s all about reading the opponent and go based on the behavior. But for the most part Motaro allows you to be aggressive because he has ways to escape/pressure.
Keyword. “Loyalist”I played him since MK9. Regardless of his tier placement. Mk11 Johnny? He was ass there but I committed no matter what. He was buggy there and was nerfed too. MKX A-list was tricky but those run cancels was chef kiss 🫡
@@MadDoggGames I personally like playing Sub-Zero, and he’s actually on of my mains. But my only problem is that his moves you have to be really quick or you’ll mess up the combo.
