That plastic piece on the tailgate is actually to protect the tailgate from rocks that might be on the bumper so you don’t damage the paint.

There is some guys like loud and proud that have to put the dumbest looking 22 and larger rims on everything, with rubber band tires and stupid with reticules looking offsets, they just ruin these old trucks. It's in pretty amazing shape except the paint on the cab, given it's an issue on almost all cars in those years. It's even a Colorado Truck. Another great feature on this truck. You've done a ton to it and have made it one of the cleanest 2nd gens around! You're knowledgeable about it and the engine as well. You reconditioned that truck inside and out. I like the addition of the yellow fog lights in the front. I think 2nd gens are one of the best looking trucks out there, it was a revolutionary design when they first came out and were styled after a big rig. Most of these trucks today aren't fixed up like yours. You didn't mention injectors, so I assume stock for now, but a little bigger size and some delivery valves and you'll be close or over the number you're going for easily. A future compound setup will be a delight and you're well on your way with the S300 which will be a great high pressure top turbo.

One of my friends had a Dodge pickup similar to that except that it had a automatic trans. He used it as a daily driver as well as towing a 5th wheel. The one big complaint he had was that the auto trans couldn't last. After the second trans repair, he sold it and bought a brand new Chevy 4 door pickup with a turbo diesel and a 6 speed auto. That thing got better highway mileage than my 4 banger Tacoma!

The biggest expenses I've had was a reserviced transfer case for $900 when I bought it. Fuel pump died on the road and cost $600 to replace. Then a used engine this past summer for $1,100 plus $600 freight. Just about every single normal wear and tear item replaced as well. I fortunately have done all the work except the fuel pump. So I've spent a lot of time and relatively low money but it's has been completely worth not having a loan payment. The truck now has over 437k miles and going strong.

I second that. Roman has hired a real future auto journalist, rock star in this guy. This dude has it all, the whole package, looks, charisma , confidence, and for me the most important attribute is his excellent automotive knowledge, he really understands what he is talking about. I am still not sure why, but Roman or whomever makes the call, they seem to stick Kase behind the camera way to much. He has the knowledge, the confidence, and skills to back up what he talks about. There is not many auto journalist that I can say that about. Too many clearly don't know beans about what they are talking about. Kase really seems to know his way around vehicles, and it shows any time they let him be on cam.

Glad this truck was saved. Just imagine I f more folks did this instead of buying modern trucks(unless out of necessity).

That truck is probably a rare find to come across one with those options I think they are kinda rare to find a single cab 4x4 diesel with a manual trans

I think TFL should do a "Classics" Ike gauntlet head to head with all 3 HD trucks, mid 90's or early 00's

the manuals made more power stock then the automatics did. had a bigger p pump. the automatics are the ones known to blow up but can be built to a stronger degree then the manuals (96 12 valve guy whos built his whole truck himself)

What’s funny is that I could spend like 1/2 the money & have a ford idi or 7.3 that’s like 500hp. You can get a 7.3 Powerstroke around here for 2-3k & have it with stage 1 injectors, straight pipe, & stacks.
