What a lucky experience with the bobcat, I’m a life long Mainer and have never seen one in the wild despite spending a lot of time in the woods. I look forward to the puffin video, I’ve been to Machias Seal Island 7 times since the 80’s. I have tons of photos but no video.

So happy I found your channel. I am primarily a bird photographer so even though on a much smaller scale, I can relate to the pounding heart when I see a new species. Great videos and pretty scenery!

I checked out your machias video-- my trip got there got cancelled because of high seas last year and that's what pushed me to go to canada in the first place for seabirds.

Glad I came across this vlog. Here in middle Tennessee we have quite a few bobcats, hear them more than see. New subscriber and look forward to seeing the puffin vlog next week. Next year is my wife and I 20th anniversary and she wants to go to Maine. Definitely going to be watching and seeing what I can capture while there. Right now, thinking Moose Lake area, but always open to suggestions lol.

Great video! I've been to Northern Maine one time and I've wanted to go back ever since. Beautiful landscape. We stayed in a place called Loon Lodge . I believe it has new owners. Keep telling my wife we need to spend a week there for some photography. You've got a new subscriber. 👍

Nice video! No Bobcats for me yet, but on my bucket list. How does that Roland Pro fit on your 200-600? I've read good and bad reviews. Just subscribed.

Hi Steve, thanks for joining! I've personally had no issues but there's one caveat. There's 7 pieces to the total cover and I have removed the portion that covers the settings panel. Main reason is due to how cumbersome it becomes when you can't line up your two white dots to attach to camera body. Also after extensive use of the velcro that covers the panel, the velcro has lost its connectivity. Otherwise, it fits nice and snug and has helped with moisture and keeping away dirt. I'd be interested to hear from someone who uses the LensCoat cover since their's just has a cutaway. Material on that one looks to be more of a neoprene material. All this said, I'd recommend it! I like the camo suit. Where can I buy one? The camo you have on the tripod I think is the noisy type. I use camo burlap BTW another mainer here 😏

Yup, I bought that camo netting on amazon for $15 haha. I should probably get something more quiet and designed specifically for hunters/photographers. And the suit is by North Mountain Gear. Just going out into a nice spot and hoping that something happens by seems like a hard row to hoe. Do you ever employ the use of lures or calls to increase your odds of bringing target species within camera range?

Great question/point. I have considered using devices/bait to up my chances, but have never gone beyond that. On the other hand, I really enjoy the unknown and being patient. I’m not opposed to it, do you have any recommendations on what’s worked for you?

@@liamdmcinerney Thanks for a great response to my question! I narrow my photography down to spots where the animals (or birds) are spending a lot of time for known reasons. If I find a fresh carcass of a deer or other megafauna, I'll set up by it. Or I'll set up by an active cavity nest for species that nest in tree holes. Or I'll set a blind up right in the middle of a Sage Grouse lek, or by a Ruffed Grouse's drumming log. For deer and other megafauna I focus on the places where there's no hunting and the animals are used to lots of people, so that they are not afraid to come within frame-filling range of me ... plus, they grow to full maturity in such areas, so I get to photograph larger males who did not get shot by hunters when they were just 2 or 3 year olds. I have not yet tried for Bobcats, but I would like to some winter when it's cold enough and when there's snow cover. My plans are to set up a motion lure with a speaker in a tiny patch of thick brush and wait in a blind about 30 yards away, with my camera set up as low as possible, just a couple inches above the snow.

@@TomReichner Thank you for this feedback! I used to live out in Texas and the town I lived in didnt allow hunting in city limits. I got some great buck photos down there. Up here in Maine you need to work a little harder haha. You reminded me that theres a ruffed grouse snow bed by the river near me. Every time I walk out that direction I spook it, problem is it's right by the river and I cant get a clean shot on em. I do follow your same approach by finding a deer carcass, I got some shots of a bald eagle that way. As for motion lure/speaker setup, this might be something I explore and would work perfectly for the location in this video. Seen a few videos of hunters using them and while I dont hunt, can't say it wouldnt be great for us photographers. BTW I just followed you on Instagram, great shots!
