I stand amazed in the presence Of Jesus the Nazarene And wonder how He could love me A sinner condemned, unclean How marvelous, how wonderful And my song will ever be How marvelous, how wonderful Is my Saviour's love for me He took my sins and my sorrows He made them his very own He bore the burden to Calvary He suffered and died for me Oh, how marvelous, how wonderful And my song shall ever be How marvelous, how wonderful Is my Saviour's love Forever I will sing Your praise Jesus, Risen King Oh my God I stand amazed that You loved me When with ransomed in glory His face I at last shall see It will be my joy through the ages To sing of His love for me How marvelous, how wonderful And my song shall ever be How marvelous, how wonderful Is my Saviour's love How marvelous, how wonderful And my song shall ever be How marvelous, how wonderful Is my Saviour's love for me

This is a beautiful song and would love to do this during corporate worship some time. However, I had a question about the line: "He bore the burden to Calvary and suffered and died alone." I'm not super well-versed on theology but I wonder if that's an accurate statement. From a cursory understanding, he did not die alone. The Father did not abandon Him. Two thieves were up there with Him. He was aware of John and His mother witnessing His death and even spoke to John. Roman soldiers were there to carry out the crucifixion. The crowd was there mocking Him. What are your thoughts about this?

I believe it is just an issue of older phrasing styles. I read it as this: "He ALONE bore the burden to Calvary and suffered and died" As in, Christ alone bore our sins on the cross. Of course we can't be 100% sure this is how the author intended it, but it seems likely.

Hello, just came across this and wanted to respond. I think the lyrics rightly capture it. He suffered and died alone in the sense that none other had. The two thieves died a deserving death for what they had done (and rightly we should be the ones on the cross for our sins), but Christ crucified was unique that His death was not because of any crime he committed, but because of our sins committed against God. Though his family and disciples witnessed his death, no one stood up for His cause for fear of the governors (and at that point that they might not fully understand the meaning of His death), so in that sense He died alone. Most excruciatingly is not the physical pain that He bore but the spiritual separation from the Father, because the fullness of God’s wrath was on Jesus when He hung on the cross. There was darkness in the land for 3 hours as prophesied in Joel 2:1-2, and on the cross He cried, “Father, Father, why have you forsaken me”. God’s eyes is too pure to look on evil, He cannot tolerate wrong doing (Hab 1:13). On the cross, the sins of the whole world was upon Jesus, it was too ugly and horrendous a sight for God to look upon. Hope this helps clarify your confusion, and better treasure Christ substitutionary atonement for our sins.

The line that states he had ño worried for his own griefs is so untrue read the scripture He knew what they were going to do to Him He was so scared He was sweating drops of blood He was in emotional agony before it all went down That line needs to be changed He went to Father God in prayer pleading to take this cup from Him But not my will but yours He was asking can there be another way

The lines you are referencing read: "He had no tears for His own griefs, But sweat-drops of blood for mine." The song is not saying that Jesus was not concerned about the torture of the cross (as it references the blood sweat). The song is stating the Jesus was not mourning his own sin (as he did not have any) but was mourning what would happening to him because of our sin. And yet he knowingly continued on to the cross
