I don't think I'll ever do that but here's one where I do speak French while reading a french book: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3XTqxH9FWhY.html
I am actually pretty good at finishing series simply because I usually pick series that are all completed so I’m more likely to binge read them instead having to wait for books and having a lot of other books I want to read in the meantime.
I think you did great on your own challenge: congrats. I personally suck at continuing series but I don’t mind it. Basically I’m very critical with my time investment in series: I have to REALLY love something to want to read 5 more books. So anything that “just fine”, I’m happy enjoying the first book but not continuing.
Legends and Lattes was such a breath of fresh air as I read so many that are so much more in depth and heart wrenching. The cozy break was nice. I can't wait to read the second book.
I definitely suck at finishing series. I don't crucify myself over it, because I still do read around 150 books per year, and I've gotten good at giving up on series that don't spark any joy. This year I finished/caught up on 17 so far, but only 2 of those were started before 2023. I also gave up on 2 that I started last year and when faced with continuing them I realised I had no interest. So all in all 19, which I think equals the number of series I started this year so far. My biggest problem is definitely starting books and not finishing them before moving on to something new.
This year I started 13 series and finished 6 of them. One of the finished ones I gave up on but that´s okay ~ I also started The Green Bone Saga this year and I really liked the first book and can´t wait until the next two books are available in my library :)
I started 5 and finished zero, but I’m only interested in finishing 2-3 of those 5. Thank you for talking about Queen of the Tearling! I read it bc of your recommendation and now I’m obsessed.
i just checked and i actually started 10 series and finished 5, could be worse. My inner monk hates the thought of a series standing on my shelf unfinished 😂
You inspired me to keep track of the series I'm reading this year! I finished 4, kept current on 6, made no progress on 15 😬 and started 5 (although 2 of them I didn't realize were series when I started them).
I think I commented on one your videos before, thought about commenting, that I also have trouble with finishing series, particularly within a decent timeframe. In 2023, because of you, I have trying to fix that, and I have made a tiny bit of progress. I DNFed a quartet, because I wasn't motivated to pick it up, but I finished four trilogies. The last one was an add on via my Kindle to be fair, but my TBR my rules. I think progress no matter how little should count for something.
I just looked and I started 14 series this year and have finished 3, but there are 3 series where I just need to read the last book which I might be able to do before the end of the month. I just got out of a major reading slump (though most of my year was a slump) so I'm feeling pretty good that I'll finish at least 2 of the 3 series. I also caught a cold so I might as well enjoy some books while I lay in bed sniffling.
Well done :D Finishing and getting up to date with series has been a focus for me too this year. I'm pretty good at it, and I read a lot of ongoing series and tend to jump on the new ones as soon as they come out. But some series do tend to drag a bit more so the whip is out for next year 😂
I try to buy the whole series and read it one after another, but there are problems with that too- buying loads of books and realising you dont want to continue or friends trying to talk to you about the books when they are released.
Im exactly like you! Im struggling so bad to finish the 15 different book series i've started this year. But i'm hopefull next year i'll have more time to finish most of them... Tbh this kinda video helps me get through my physical tbr, so thank you!!!!!!!!!
I started 8 series and so far I've finished 4. I'm keeping The Lost Metal for my last read of the year, I got the audiobook so hopefully it won't take too long.
I started a couple series and am waiting for either the follow up books or the time to continue them but series definitely wasn't a priority this year. So I feel you. I think you did well with weeding out ones you don't want to continue and finishing or coming close with some solid ones let's call it a win for you! I think next year you can really focus on in good ones and not worry about the number too much unless it's worth your time and you are interested in it.
My plan this year was to finish more series then I started. At this moment I finished 3 more, but I plan to read the last book of at least one more. My biggest issue is that I dont give up on series. I started reading the wheel of time and I didn't enjoy any of the books, but I still read 4 of them and I still might read the 5th one because maybe I will change my mind. On that note, I heard that book 3 and 4 in Thursday murder club are really good. I only read the first one and I liked it, but it wasn't my highest priority to continue.
I get stressed from having too many series ongoing at a time, so normally I have to finish some series before I start new ones. This year I've started 13 series, finished 14, caught up to 5, and still have 8 ongoing of which I plan to finish 3 before the end of the year. So hopefully I only take 5 ongoing series into next year.
I have so many series where I've read only the first book... The thing is, I usually do it to series that I actually really like, but I'm afraid that continuation is bad, so I just never continue😅
I've the same "problem", just until now i've started 24 series, but I'm finish/get cought up or DNF 15 of them. So maybe not that bad. I've had a goal to finish series this year to and it helpt me stay aware of them. So I probably gonna set it next year to.😅
I started 40 series this year 🥲. I finished around 30 I think so it’s not that bad. But whenever I start one I have to finish it, no matter if i hate it
I think I technically started 27 series this year, lol. But most of them were KU romances, which is a very different kind of beast! And of those new ones that I started, I finished/caught up/quit the majority of them. There are only a couple left that I need to address. However, I barely made any progress on all the series that I previously started. I finished 4 and kept up with a few new installments, but I'm dreading the total count of series I've started because that's my end of year goal, to review ALL of my series and make a plan for them in 2024.
I finished Becky Chambers Wayfarers series, Small Spaces Quartet, and The Last Dragon Slayer Chronicles by Jasper Fforde. I am caught up with Ursula Blanchard mysteries by Fiona Buckley, Rivera of London by Ben Aaronovitch, and Sean Maguire Crypt series. I will finish or catch up The Thursday Murder Club series and Murderbot Diaries before the end of the year.
I'm not too worried about doing series. I like the JD Robb In Death series but that woman publishes a book every year. I would have to almost exclusively read her books in a year to catch up! And I don't really want to do that lol.
Go you for finishing/abandoning 14 series! I started 18 series this year (without counting any series where I DNF'd the first book), finished three of those, decided not to continue five and the rest I'm still working on. lol Some of them are romance series that aren't that connected so never really sure whether to count those or not.
This year I completed one series (the Neapolitan novels, and liked the last one the most) Started re-reading one, and stopped. And re-read one that I started about 8 years ago (so I needed to re-read the first 3 out of 8, and some new ones were published since I started). And I also have 2 others that are currently on pause (and have been for years at this point). This is a pretty good balance, and I am on purpose trying to avoid series all together exactly for this reason, and to save myself the stress of having them in the back of my mind. I get that other l get that some people love to start all the series in the world, but I personally would be stressed out if there would be more than 3-4 that I would be in the middle of at any given time.
I'll be honest, I don't really keep track of how many series I start and don't really consider starting or being mid-series as a commitment to finish it.
I think I am bad about starting them. This year and last year both, started 8 new series and continued 2. This year I started and finished 1 and dropped I think 3, with a couple from last year I am leaning to drop. I haven't decided. At least 1 of the books I read started a a stand a lone but is now a series. 🤷♀️ I think I have 17 or 18 total series started, I would like to drop that down to under 10.
I have put some series up i wsnted to finish. And i finished 1 😂. I did make progress with most, but not finished them. For the rest i did good on finishing series. But it werent the ones i wanted to finish hahaha
I was just looking at all the series I was reading and tallying it up….63 total with 15 completed this yr, 7 dnf, and up to date on 15. The rest are still ongoing. This is the first time I’ve made a list like this and don’t think I will do it again.
I've never really felt the need to look back and count series started etc mostly because chances are I won't finish them. It takes certain types of books/stories for me to keep my interest going and finish a series.
Oh no I’m so sad you didn’t like the sequel to She Who Became the Sun!! I loved the first book, I’m still going to try the second but now my hopes aren’t as high lol
Because I rarely read fantasy I always think I don’t really read series. But the truth is that I start a lot of them and just don’t continue 😆 this year I started 9 new series, continued 2 and completed 1. To be fair, I only really plan to continue a few of those (Silo, Surviving the city, Saga, Anne of Green Gables) and three are a maybe (The Murderbot Diaries, Wayfarer, Barsoom). I was really proud of myself for finishing The Hunger Games + the prequel relatively quickly and for continuing two series beyond the second book 😅 (Saga and Anne) which is very unlike me…
Since you’re upset about not continuing the Thursday Murder Club you should def watch “Only murders in the building” its about older people solving crimes and excellent!
i read all of the queen of the tearling series this year including the prequel (which imo is very skippable). I did not like the ending of that series at all but i'm glad you liked it!
I finished 4 series this year and I started 5. Overall I'm mostly up-to-date with all series I want to continue, except for two (still debating if I even want to finish one of them)
I started 14 and DNFd 1 of them. But I don't really have a goal to finish series that I start. I finish when I'm in the mood of reading one more of the books. I just started the 8th book of one of the series and there's still 6 (?) more so I'm really not in the rush and also there is a companion series. Also in one of the series I accidently started with the 8th book :D
I usually binge read series so the only ones I have in progress at the moment are the few incomplete ones I’ve started. But I’ve read so many amazing first books with awful sequels this year that I’m considering giving up on series entirely 😅
I feel like I'm a bit extreme with my finishing series XD I can't stand having unfinished series. So most of the times if I start a series, I will finish it within 1 or 2 months. Only exception is longer series. So when I reread the Eragon books, or now with the Wheel of Time, I read 1 book per month. But even then I'm very consistent with it. Probably the only part of my life where I'm consistent 😂
Emily, have you read The Book That Wouldn't Burn by Mark Lawrence yet? I finished it this morning and I can't stop thinking about how much you would like it! Mysterious, mystical ancient library vibes with a brilliant FMC
I’m good with series for the most part 🤗 I usually binge read them when they’re completed. My issue is companion novels or when there’s multiple series in the same world. Companion novels aren’t technicallyyyy part of it, they’re just an extra bonus, so I say it still counts right?😂
Series aren’t my favorite but I love ones made up of novellas, like the Murderbot series or the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire. However, I did finish the Shades of Magic series by VE Schwab.
Pretty sure I finished 3 series and started 2 😅 I've very consciously made sure the books I started aren't series all year but I just didn't get around to finishing as many as I had planned (7).
Great job!! How many have I started? I don’t want to talk about it. Always too many! I have been swift to DNF though, so at least I’m only inundated with good ones. :)
Technically I started 30 series this year 🙈 buuut, 9 of them are new series with just 1 book out, and 7 of them I am either caught up on or finished also this year... So overall not half bad! (Finished in some way 19 series this year)
I don’t read many series because I don’t like to commit to reading a lot of books in one series. I’ll read a series if it’s only say two or three books. Lol
I'm not the biggest fan of series. When I was a teenager, I had started so many and now 10 years later I'm looking at all of these unfinished series that I'm really not interested in anymore lol, will probably donate or sell the books
