This is a better world cause of you, your funny and hearthwarming perspective behind the lens. Every of your pics has an intention and remind us how powerful it's to see the world from the eyes of someone you admire; from the bottom of my heart, dankeschön Samuel 🤍

You're so correct on both fronts. When I shoot my big outdoor events here in Perth, WA, I always have lots of people coming to ask for my instagram. I have to be careful, because I can't send any to the public, before I release them to the lady who hires me (the promoter/organiser). However, once I've released the images, I always honour my promise and send them all off to my Instagram people. You will be surprised how it comes back to you in spades. People know me now from years before, and I get invited in to take more photos, or I've got more paid work through that. Also, very true on the big cameras. I always have two bodies, both with flashes on (I always shoot outdoor HSS, TTL, daylight fill-flash). People take one look at me (those who don't already know me), and instantly they are prepared to jump in front for a photo, or give me access or whatever - it really does work.

This is so sweet! I love videos like this with an honest insight into a unique local tradition. No frills just good photos and a down to earth experience.

I've been depressed for a while, I really miss doing this, go out and photograph events. Need to make an effort, or I will just stay depressed forever. Thank you for the inspiration (Also live in a smaller town)

Hey man thank you so much for commenting! All I can say is that I know for a fact that going out to photograph will make you feel better. Try to enjoy the process and not focus too much on the outcome. I use photography as a form of self therapy myself. I get depressed when I don't shoot for a while. So whenever I feel down or uninspired I grab my camera and just go for a walk and take photos of whatever. Of course if you have anything going on near you that looks interesting, then try to shoot that. By the way before this event I had back pain for two weeks and couldn't walk straight. So I couldn't go out to shoot. Now that my back is feeling better I am so happy to be able to just walk again without pain. So yeah, hope you feel better soon! Cheers from Germany.
@TheBecke1983
@TheBecke1983 6 месяцев назад
Yes! It really is a form of therapy. Back pain is no fun, I hope it was nothing serious? Most of my back pains I can stretch before away before it becomes too bad. I am rehabilitating a bad knee, when it is better I can skateboard again, that will also help with my state of mind a lot. Cheers from Sweden @@SamuelStreetlife

I thought i was going to miss the old samuel street photography videos and in a way i do. But your personality and humour and overall vibe allways keeps me coming back to the channel. I enjoy the focus on more family related stuff and cool projects like this. I hope to see many more videos from you over the upcoming years!

Very entertaining with tidbits of wisdom throughout. I'm actually contemplating on moving back to my hometown and start photographing the community as there's not really much documentation of my hometown's growth and loss. You could make a zine of your photos and just leave it at a local library?

This is how "real" projects come into existence. The general category of projects that could warrant an exhibition, or maybe a Magnum video series. Meaning takes time. And it takes involvement. Maybe you won't find any deeper layers in these photos. You'll only know for sure once you've worked on it for a long time. It is incredibly difficult to find anything of real artistic or documentary significance in this country. It has to do with the fundamental mentality of the people and with history after WW2. A complex issue. But if you want to go look for it anyways, the best chances you'll have at your doorstep. Especially if you're not the ultra charismatic kind of photographer who can talk themselves through every locked door, wherever they are. This video did seriously remind me of some of those Magnum series, though. Not even kidding. The approach feels right and I'm really looking forward to following its development. My first thought was, "Looks like the perfect opportunity for some insane large format portraits" 😄

Great project. Great photos. I am doing a similar project around the Mardi Gras parade in Nîmes and found the video inspiring. It is difficult for me because I don't speak the language, and am shooting prime lens, manual, while dodging shaving cream ;-) But I love it. Just went back for the second year and was struck again by how these European festivals are so joyous without any of the danger and menace sometimes surrounding the ones in the US. I will be going back next year. Good luck with your project.

Projects are hard work! Digital the way! SLR or those newer things! I often share images from phone! I sometimes carry a Rollei 6x6. Sadly last few spoiled at paid processing. I'm glad yo moving ahead!. Street photography can become boring! I have specific points of view! Good Luck! One project leads to others..

Much like Fashing Dienstag in Bayern. There was (or is) a similar event in Wuerzburg on Fashing Dienstag. Big party, and parade in Altstadt.
@SamuelStreetlife
@SamuelStreetlife 6 месяцев назад
Yes Fasching is typical for Germany. The differences are more in the rituals and other side events that are happening around the parade. I have many friends in Germany who tell me about similar traditions that are completely different again. Except the parades look often very similar haha.
