Absolute billy big bollocks I know, praying it comes out well! Funnily enough I have one arriving tomorrow, can't wait to attack the car with it hahahaha
I've got a red 940 that I rattle canned. It was a very faded red, with a gray quarter panel, one burgundy and two green doors. All in all took about a week of taping/painting a couple of hours each day after work but came out looking really much nicer. Lots of light coats is always the way to go. Good luck!
Thats awesome what you are doing. I painted my 850. As a spray painter i would reccomend sanding the whole car and painting all together.. doing it pannel by pannel is more work as you will need to keep masking pannels off. Also paint the jams first. Also i would invest in a comoressor and a spray gun and just buy the paint per Litre...will go allot faster with a sprag gun than cans. You can spray a car using a 50L compressor. It can also be used to help you keep the car clean. Beautiful woman painting an awesome car... does not get any better.
@@emilyshields3667 its a pleasure. You can spray the car with 3 litres. With the basecoat i mix 50% paint and 50% thinners. try getting atleast 3 coats on there with another 3 coats of clear coat over. Id also get 3 litres of clear coat. Used that on mine. But i did 2 coats of candy and 4 coats of clear.
Years ago I was on an access scheme where I did odd jobs and was once asked to go and paint someones Porsche. I had it half done when the owner came out of the house yelling and screaming at me. He said he wanted me to paint the porch, not the Porsche.
About two years ago i also rattle canned an entire car, took alooong time to get it finished, but it cost like 80 usd for the entire car, and it looks kinda good. Looks just as nice till this day. The only thing you should watch out for when rattle canning, is the so called tigerstripes in the paint, doing it panel by panel as you said might be easier and will look alot better😄
The tiger stripes is exactly what the c30 roofbox I did last year suffered with, I did do the whole thing in a day in 30° heat though 😂🤦♀️ a lot more time and patience going into this one!
fair play do like a big turbo volvo myself...check out the rustoleum spray jobs done with cans some decent looking jobs for a big drift barge! use heat on bage foam too remove
Some of that body does NOT need a full re-spray (some needs serious work). Clean old badge glue of with hot air gun (or hairdryer) to soften, & warm damp rag with thinners or white spirit. Wash car with washing up liquid to ensure all polish & wax is stripped. Clay clean panela (not damaged ones) ; dry & inspect & mop paint with mequirs compound, farcela G10 or T-cut if on the cheap. Rinss, dry, polish with autoglym or meguirs & inspect BEFORE starting to sand & strip. You could get some of that paint 90% using correction techniques. Spray painting scratches & damage, flattening, compounding is one thing, but trying to respray large flat panels is a fools errand I'm afraid :( Always practice on a scrap panel before tackling a whole car.
Wrapping is alot easier to prep for!!, to get that glue off use a heat gun and a plastic scraper, if you sand the whole car buy a cheap excenter sander and 800 grit paper for it it will save you mega mega hours, great to see you having a go i love it!
Getting started is probably the hardest part of any project :) so well done. Looking forward to seeing your prep methods. Giving me motivation to get cracking with my project and film more
I should also note that you need at least 2 big box fans to push air and the fumes out, otherwise you will get really sick! Paint aerosols are freaking hazardous!
Would recommend investing in a small tripod (one with the bendy legs) so you can hook it around stuff and do timelapses and don’t have to hold your phone constantly!! Awesome videos so far!!
Honestly can get a perfect finish with rattle. Makes sure there is plenty of product on and with a quick denib and hit with cutting compound and polish it comes up a treat. The only downside is if using 1k clearcoat its doesn’t like a lot of todays cleaning products like tfr etc. Shampoo and polish only 🤪
Hi Emily, fun video and neat idea. Maybe do the spraying outside your neighbours house to avoid getting overspray on yours ☺️ I have a 1947 K Bedford that was hand painted by brush when near new and can hardly see the brush marks and it has lasted fairly well. I think they used to heat the body and enamel paint and put a drop of linseed oil in it
You'd be much better off with a few sanding blocks, don't sand with your fingers. If a panel is ok, just use scotchbrite to put a key on the surface. I'd personally polish ok panels. A polisher can be used for sanding too. Makes the whole thing easier and better. A rattle can spray job will still polishing after. Not criticism just advice. Sure loads would help to advise you. Brilliant enthusiasm.
Soak the sticky glue stuff with petrol where boot badges was will come of easily then or buy a caramel or toffee wheel off ebay goes on a drill and makes easy work of removing left over glue
What I used to do when using rattle cans I used to do 1 panel at a time once that's dry mask it off so no over spray then move onto the next panel then if you screw up it's only that 1 panel. Its time consuming but hey your on lockdown 😂 stay safe Em loving your videos only found you yesterday so new sub here 👍 I love my 90's cars I have a 92 Miata mx5 it's my pride and joy and a blast to drive hopefully a turbo conversion in the future.
Really enjoyed this video🙂👍 and looking forward to the progression of your Swedish Fast Brick's paintjob. Had few myself over the years and dubbed them all 'Swedish Panzers'... float like battleships, sting like busses, but what would you expect from a Volvo!? 🙄
WD40 on the glue bits with a thick tissue or cloth or something similar. Comes off much easier. Spray both sticky bit and cloth and job should be a good'en 👍 :)
hi there, how the weather in london.?, just wandering where can i get parts for this old cars and ship it to my country. my dad got the volvo 940 turbo and some engine plastic are wearing out and brittle, and recomendation where to find parts for this model.
Nice one em ! eBay sell project packs of sand paper if you need some more, they come with 1000 grit etc that you'll need before final coat to get rid of scratches etc 😀 if you want descent spray paint I've always found parkers to be ok and cheap :-) better than Halfords crap anyway haha
I’ve got a electric sander arriving today with a big pile of all different grits of sandpaper, made sure I had some like that for the final sand down!🙌🙌 I hate Halfords paint also!😂
Great job I have a 90 740 turbo and do all the work my self I think we have the same engine Dave burtons forum is great for trouble shooting .. cheers and god luck from Los Angeles !
That’s a massive job you’re undertaking there. Have you costed it out? How many rattle cans have you ordered? Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Keep up the good work
You seem a pretty cool youtuber! A wise project car a 940 Turbo. Good luck, great thing with old cars is they are easy to work on. P.s. I sanded my old MX5, and sprayed the whole car Satin Black with Graffiti paint. 4 coats and 4 hours later it was done (4 hours to paint the thing but a whole weekend to sand the car) 😂 Goodluck. Have fun 👍
After you've flatted the car use 1000 grit and go over the whole car again.. other wise when you paint it you will see scratches under the paint.. if you have a sander use that will make it abit easier
So glad I have found some one young that loves Volvo s not just me 🥳🎉🎊🎉🎊👏👍👍👍👍keep up the good work Emily looking forward to the c30 video I have a c20 d2 r design plus wait for it v60 d40 r design just put 19 inch polestar alloys full privacy glass fucking love it better 👏👏👏👏👏
Alright, I admit it; for the first 5 mins I thought Emily was just a blonde bimbo. Then I began to realise she’s not and to take her seriously. She’s resilient, careful, dogged and thorough. So, sorry Emily, I apologise for my first thoughts. Misc. points: 1. Lakes in the Peterborough area of the A1 will supply a new box section lid to replace that broken painted in the O/S. Pretty cheap if she shows them her youtube channel and gives them a mention. They’ve got a pile of old Volvos. 2. It’s really nice to see a 940 being saved (Furious Driving’s just done one - cheered me up no end). If we keep using existing kit rather than just crushing and buying new cars it does wonders for the environment - much more than ponsing around with hybrids. 3. With current fuel prices she can drive to Lands End and back for £3.50 even in a 9 series.
Good work, many men wish 2 have a woman like you 2 work as a team and make things in life 😀👍. And so pretty you are 2....you can fix things learn more and save money for new Projects.
well I have to subscribe to see if this car will ever have paint on it again :D I think you might have taken on more than you think, hopefully you see it through
