I Stay In A Super Yacht Hotel - Is It Worth It? 

I think this is the nicest hotel I've seen you visit. It looked fancy but not tacky and looks incredibly clean. Even the price was super reasonable.

Compared to a lot of hotels you've stayed in, I didn't think the room looked dated at all. Being in simple and classic colours (no ugly designs) it looked elegant, relaxing and very clean. I would have willingly taken that divan home with me. 😅You did well in paying extra for the view over the river, the sunset over the city was amazing. I wonder who the yacht belonged originally, they certainly didn't think about saving money when they started fitting it out. Great video! 🤩

That was the exact same room we stayed in a couple of years ago! Room 4038. Just checked some old pics to confirm. How cool. The room has not changed what so ever though. Nor has that shower head :-) Still dated. That said we did enjoy our stay. Quite the novelty. Some fab restaurants nearby as well. Keep up the awesome content Tim!

ps. apparently it has no engine been removed and she was towed over from the Netherlands a few years ago.

I think it's beautiful, and not as expensive as I thought it would be. Especially for London. I loved all the polished wood and brass, made it look very 1930s

I stayed there for a few days over new years- great spot and was reasonably priced, decent breakfast- even had Marmite sachets. It was very handy to the Elizabeth line (2 minute walk) which was a direct connection to Heathrow.

The jack flag (seen incorrectly flying at the stern of the ship) ought to be an ensign. The jack is normally flown off a jackstaff which should be at the bow of a ship.

I'd definitely stay there. You might have thought it was dated but I loved it. I loved all that shiny polished wood. The balcony was a bit small and the side a bit high but still, on a nice evening that would be lovely. I thought the price was really reasonable. Shame about the air con, hope they fixed it for the next person. If I was flying out of the airport it would definitely be a place to stay.

I'd never heard of this hotel before, but it looks like a lovely place to stay. The main areas look so luxurious. What a unique experience and great for a plane enthusiast like me as it's so close to City airport. I'm envious of anyone who could afford to own a yacht like this!

I thought the room and everything looked gorgeous! Bathroom was plain but can be overlooked as overall experience looked great!... Tim how about staying in an accommodation in Leeds castle in Kent? Would make a good video!

The yacht was fantastic. The care of the wood and how clean everything was in the room was remarkable. I would stay there anytime.

Haven’t watched it yet but I’ve been on that boat every day for about 5 years way back as used to work for the daily telegraph in Canary Wharf and we used to send free copies there . So I used to drive them there . Beautiful hotel on the water

I loved it when I stayed at the yacht a few years ago. It’s a decent area as well so plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. I remember being really surprised how cheap the room was as well.

It looks sooo posh! I would feel intimidated as I'm the opposite of posh. I once stayed in a luxury hotel for a work course and hated it. It had several restaurants and the waiters would walk around with silver trays and a towel over their arm. Give me a Travelodge any day! :)

One has to admit, it is really well maintained. No signs of chipped wood and furniture in the room is really something.

I've watched a few of your videos and must say that they are always so honest, as this one is, too. I liked the room, though those problems you point out would irritate me as well, particularly if I were staying, say, three nights. Increasingly, people need sockets. I have sight problems, so those reflective ceilings would keep me out of the bar areas. Lovely room (cabin), as you say, but that balcony! They should have put a ledge with a couple of breakfast bar type stools out there. I don't know how they could use that as a selling point. You'd have to be over six feet tall to see over the side. A really entertaining film. Thanks.

That seems to be a finnish yacht of some sort. It screamed Finland; the locks in some doors are Abloy, the faucets were Oras etc. Edit: Sunborn is a finnish family business, so that answers my questions. :)

If we could afford it Tim, both myself and my Mrs would love to stay in a yacht like this. What a lovely vessel, with all the exquisite fittings, etc. The London views are excellent too. Many thanks for this showing.

A little bit of ships terminology for you front = bow, back = stern, left looking towards the bow = port, right looking towards the bow = starboard

We stayed there, for two nights, about four years ago. Quite enjoyed the experience of being on a yacht. We had breakfast on board but had dinner at nearby restaurants. Only complaint I had is that the heat in the bathroom was unbearable. Underfloor heating on all the time.

Oh wow i love it having the door open looks quite safe . I have seen the one in Gibralter from the outside. I am looking for somewhere to stay for christmas that comes with breakfast and dinner UK for a few days

You and the family really should try an actual cruise, I went on Iona last July, loved it so much I’ve got 3 cruises booked for this year and two for the following year ☺️

Hi Tim. Great video again and thanks for highlighting this unusual hotel. It looked stunning and £160 for a double room in London! Bargain. I could live with the small issues you highlighted, including the kettle no problem!

It's pre-pandemic since I last used to frequent the hotels near the ExCeL. That's a good price and often it was £200+ even back then, although if you booked early and around events at the ExCeL then deals were to be had. I tended to stop at the Good Hotel, a floating hotel a little further down from the Sunborn. That was due to be towed back to Holland but I guess the pandemic put paid to that. I see it's still there and it's well worth a visit 😉 It's a social business and supports staff that wouldn't usually have an opportunity to develop in the hospitality trade. The rooms are bijou but very comfortable and there's a really nice bar from what I can remember.

I noticed your comment about the mirror opposite the bed. My Asian wife hates this seeming demons come out of the mirror! Not a bad price for something different in London. Good video keep them coming

It remind me a bit like a Disney cruise ship, very nice and posh. I like the automatic doors and very nice entrance when you come off the lift and got the stairs. very nice bedroom and very nice view, that would be so lovely on a sunny day with blue sky. Not a big fan of sparkling water.

You finally found a hotel in England without mold or anything broken. Not perfect, as you say, but probably worth 9/10. I'm surprised that you didn't take full advantage of the included brekkie. That would set me up for the day.

Wow, all that gold, glass, sparkles and polished woods - it did seem a bit discombobulating! But the room was really nice (bathroom a bit lacking though) and the sunset and views are lovely, especially if you are a visitor to London, and looking for somewhere different to stay. But you did seem all alone on that boat! It wasn't called the Marie Celeste by any chance?!😊 Another great review, thanks Tim.

My wife and I stayed here in May 2017. I loved watching the planes descend over Canary Wharf and in a straight line past the yacht. In the evening, the Emirates airline cable car was lit up and it was fascinating watching them go back and forth. This might have been because we had been working our way through the cocktail menu in the afternoon, (chilli tequila was my favourite). The location did feel a bit isolated and not a lot of local restaurants or bars, at least when we were there. If you stay onboard rather than touring the locale of an evening, it’s a great experience. I would highly recommend it.

Great on locating these less usual places to stay. Balcony should have had glass sides; agree your comments on the bathroom; the room (cabin?) had that, dated perhaps, style but is one which I like. Does the European plug sockets give away the origin of the vessel? Look forward to more of these types of where to stay.

Used to stay on the yatch regularly as wirk used to block book rooms for when working in London, loved it had some great nights on yhe yatch.

Ending part not to bad the cleaner put all the tea coffee stuff all together makes the place look more tidy haha

stayed on the sunborn a couple of times now its quite cool and unique plus with it being sat towards the end of london city airport its pretty cool wathcing the planes take off over the ship when your eating breakfast

We went for a drink on here after visiting a toy show at Excel, must be more than 15 years ago! I thought it had been moved to the Middle East, it was amazing even back then, glad it's back in the UK!

Love your videos and your assessments. I will always check the kettle from now on and I have, since watching you, done a bed check. Little pet peeve... forward is the bow not the front, back on a boat is the stern. I get it is a hotel but it is still a boat

This exact same yacht was here in Finland together with Naantali spa years ago before moving to london. Interior looks almost the same (gold and wood) good old 2000’s! Search naantalin kylpylä laiva or naantali spa yacht👍 Great video!

Stayed there a couple of times, really nice. Handy if seeing an event at The O2. Cable cars to The O2 nearby too 🙂

This ”yacht” was built to be a hotel. It doesn’t have engines or bridge or anything else you would need to operate a yacht. Before London it was located in Naantali, Finland in early 2000’s.

Great video Tim the price was not bad as the boat was really nice and unusual not keen on the shower room though your room was really nice liked the balcony I did not know that place was there so thank you for showing us

It aint a superyacht its a barge that looks like a superyacht and has been since inception and works as a hotel with cruise ship style interior it does not however have any features that makes it a proper ship Engine Rudder Bridge generators and approval by IMO. it was originally moored at Nantaali spa in Turku Finland and probably built at the nearby shipyard.

Luxurious looking floating hotel. Hotel bathroom looks basic tho but the room looks fancy! Also showcase jaw dropping interior with all the gold and silver shimmering everywhere. Fantastic experience of yours for sure.

You should ride the London Cable Car! It’s one of my favourite London attractions. I love how you can see it from this yacht

I've been on the one in Gibraltar, they have a little spa where you can have massages and all sorts.

I know that area well and have worked many events at Excel over the years, in fact my first event was the London International Boat Show after it moved from Earls Court. Back then (early 2000) there weren’t many hotels in the area (they were still being built). The Sun Bourne Yacht was added later, I believe it’s not an actual real boat, but a floating hotel made to look like one, hence the permanent mooring and main entrance, the layout of the bathroom and rather narrow and all steel balcony, I doubt it has an actual bridge or even engines, relying on tugs to move it when necessary. Although I anyone knows otherwise please share. I’ve always wondered what it was like so appreciate your review.

I was expecting the bathroom tiles to be a bit nicer given all the splendor of the yatch hotel but evenso it's nice and very cheap I thought. Loved the pretty ceiling. They must be buying their polish from cash and carry..I never seen so much polish furniture. Thankyou Tim never knew such a place exsisted. Will try and check it out.

I loved this Tim I always love the idea of Ships so this would of been right up my street & no worry about sea sickness either with it being stationary! It certainly is a big luxurious Yacht. I absolutely loved your room the wooden furniture looked absolutely pristine & not a mark or scratch on it! I thought your room looked classy & polished & clean it didn't really look dated to me as it was so well looked after I thought the room was in keeping with the theme of the Yacht & somehow all that polished wood did look nautical & ideal for on board a Yacht! The cleaning allover the Yacht seemed absolutely superb! Especially as you said you could smell polish cleaner everywhere. I like the relaxing couch & the small cushions, I'm not a fan of loads of massive cushions! I would of loved to see you wake up in bed & talk about your nights sleep & if you found your bed comfortable. The sockets were abit odd, I agree that USB chargers are a must this day & age! That blue throw & dressing gown & slippers were great. I thought a bottle of complementary Champagne or Wine inside your Fridge would of been a classy touch! I agree with you Tim the Bathroom was abit tame. But I suppose on a Yacht it couldn't be too wild! I loved the touches of gold & sliver & so shiny everywhere. I loved the fact this Yacht is in London too! The sea view side is compulsory I think for the experience! The Balcony was a shame it would of been better lower & maybe made of glass so you could see the Sea view at it's best & room for a small table on the Balcony would of been nice! The Lounge/Restaurant was amazing I would of loved to have any meal there & the tiers of the promanade areas of the Yacht all spotlessly clean too & the staff looked very smart! I would love to stay on board this vessel if I could afford it! Its very different & would make a lovely relaxing break. I can't wait for you to try the other vessel that is more like a cruise ship! I bet that one will have a bigger Bathroom! I would of had a luxurious full breakfast on that yacht, the food looked absolutely delicious! Full marks Tim for this amazing vlog!!!🚢💙

We stayed at The Sunborn for 5nights back in April 2019. We had the same issue with climate control not working and the ventilation system was very noisy so sleep was nearly non existent for our entire stay. The bathroom has its own heating also and was stuck on furnace constantly so this made the room extremely hot. When we stayed the staff decided to move furniture on the floor above us at 1am in the morning for a few hours and didn't think anything was wrong when we went to complain. They then went back to moving furniture again! Plane noise did annoy us also as they start from 6.30am to 10.30pm. We were really upset with our stay as we had booked for 5 nights and they weren't the cheapest hotel at the time so extremely disappointing.

0:20 Could be a 5* as it is surrounded by a outdoor pool. 2:55 Not a fan on big mirrors as some people say its a porthole for ghosts and spirits. 7:30 Fantastic views of London. 11:15 so many mirrors you would think the yacht once belong to Hugh Hefner. From 11:53 you need quick eye, the flag us upside down. Thank you for the Yacht Hotel tour. Recommended stay is in the Netherlands: Alibi Hostel, Leeuwarden.

Wow that looked really nice.

YHA's. They're a world away from their old image and a line for so many families to be able to have holidays. We stayed in a lovely double room at Ilam Hall near Alton Towers and the Whitby YHA is right next to the abbey. Would love to see you review them for those without the money to stay in fancier places.
