I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I FOUND! I went looking for clay pipes, coins, but found old bottles

This is a hotspot when I discovered weeks ago. I returned with a small pick to hack away at the dirt. The area had been rich in clay pipes and other household items, but I never thought I would uncover a small bottle dump. This was my first try and bottle digging, and I can now see why bottle diggers love their hobby. It's so addictive.

Hi and thanks for your comment. I watch many RU-vid channels, and I try to avoid what I don't like about them. I think too much chit-chat can distract you from the purpose of the video - showing finds. ... Scott

a tip to get the cork out of the bottle is to put a plastic bag inside. turn the bottle upside down so the cork is near the head/hole and then inflate the bag. now pull the bag and it should pull the cork out with it.
@RustyNailsadventures
@RustyNailsadventures 7 лет назад
Ah, thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. I had just assumed the cork wouldn't come out, as it had expanded once leaving the bottle neck. Thanks again... Scott

This guys great. But curses aren't bad, no one cares if someone goes "holy shit are you fricken kidding me" "damnnn what a find" that's natural, real behavior.
@jackpotg-larz7445
@jackpotg-larz7445 4 года назад
@Tony Wilkins I guess you've never found anything that excites you. Where you cant think. And emotions take over. I've had to edit out a lot of curses on my videos, because I try to not curse on video. But guess what. It's a word. We are here to watch someone's hobby, see what they find and feel their emotions. Not judge them on how they speak

hi Scott , great little bottle dump you've found , I reckon your right with the dates , I remember in the late sixties there was a big dump still in use at the other side of the road where the old road passes under the new road, it is now pasture.....Paul.

There are lots of beauty bottle digs in BC, the trick is is to find out where the dumps are for the camps and towns. Town dumps are, from my experiences, mostly broken up crap, but then... Many years ago we found some old CNR logging camp maps for Vancouver Island, found a camp, found out where the cook-house was located (next to a small lake) and spent many hours with long sticks poking through the mud till ya hit a *thunk/clink*, messy wet work and way too much fun, btw we found some beautiful bottles back to 1900's and slightly earlier, literally hundreds with quite a few rarities. Personally I love the ones that became 'rainbowed', not too sure why some glass does that but man they are pretty! Another good one is homestead dumps, especially if you can find the out-house location, and in those I'd recc'd a metal detector as well as the guts to start digging down into the muck of history. Just my wee thoughts on this wonderful hobby. :)

Im in Victoria BC, about 18 years ago I paddled to a small private island and found an old miners camp in the woods, but further on with exploring and the very small island next to it, I found an old first nations canoe carved out of a tree and unfinished. I returned to it about three years ago and its all still as it was. Its nice to think about it considering its been so long since its been out their and just forgotten about and times have changed in a major way.

Looks like you found an old dump. They used to burn the trash to use it as filler, and the bottles and cans would not burn. The can's would rust. The trash ash was used as filler for road construction. Your digging into the roadside buildup used in supporting the roadway. With all the moisture in your dig area, your excavation could eroad the embankment and dammage the road supporting integrity.
@RustyNailsadventures
@RustyNailsadventures 6 лет назад
Hi and thanks for your comment. There was some excavating done nearby, with deeper incursions into the roadside build-up, so the road's fine.

But who wants new worthless modern age bottles? Antique bottles and stuff is found in old dumps dating back to the 1800s. Yesterday's trash is today's treasure. You obviously don't know anything about dump digging or you would have never made such a ridiculous comment.

Looks like the area your digging is an out of city dump , is their a canal near by as they used to use canal barges to transport city waste. the ash is where the dump would heat up and catch fire underground from decomposition and pressure . I've dug a few of these sites around london.

Not sure if you've been hunting down the Thames but I go walking down there often, I got a pretty good collection of detailed clay pipe bowls and bottles by the thousands. I don't dig just look into the breaking banks. People do dig there though. A friend of mine found a hand grenade and I found a ww2 bullet which was pretty cool. My favourite find is an China Victorian dog I found in really good condition. I find it difficult metal detecting these areas because of the amount of scrap metal but eyes only finds are really good!

@RustyNailsadventures 7 лет назад
Hi Chris and thanks for your comment. I'm so interested in the amount of history over here because I was brought up in Sydney. I had found bits and pieces between the grass and so I decided to dig. The initial detector check revealed nothing, and after the dig, and holes were filled in, I checked again over the disturbed ground and again nothing. As I dug, I noticed distinct layers of ash, soil, gravel etc. so I knew the spoil had been dumped here and wasn't naturally occurring. Thanks again .... Scott

Hi Alfredo. Quite a few people ask me about cleaning the bottles. I use brick and masonry cleaner, bought at a local DIY store. It's supposed to be diluted, but I use it straight out of the bottle. Leave the bottle soaking in a plastic bucker for 3 days and Hey Presto! The gunk comes off with little trouble. Sometimes I still have to use a bottle brush or pipe cleaner for the insides of the small bottles, but after the above treatment, it doesn't take much work. This cleaner has nitric acid in it, and it's good for removing rust as well (and anything else it touches). ... Scott
